Chapter Seven: The party

Chapter Seven: The party
I went back home, put on my party clothes, and put on my new perfume. I was ready to go back and enjoy a party at the pink mansion.

While I was changing, I kept thinking how absurd that was for me.

Vampires exist! And the most incredible thing is that they are also rich girls!

They didn't bite me, they even said that they weren't animals that would bite people's necks.

So I believed that there would be no danger in walking with them.

When I got back to the mansion, it looked like a different place. There were all sorts of people. There were balloons everywhere, and a drinks table was already there. In another corner, there was a group of people setting up speakers. A DJ had been hired to play electronic music, but no one was dancing; it was more like ambient music.

Seeing all those people, I wondered how many of them were vampires. As I inspected the place, I felt my arm being touched by Karla, now my 'Friend'.

" Ashley wants to talk to you, in her room!"

I went there.

Ashley was getting ready for the party. The twin 'Friends' were helping her get ready.

"Erika Mina, my friend, sit here!"

I sat next to her on a bench, being next to Ashley made me feel jealous of her, not because she was the leader of the sorority and everyone admired her, but because of the woman she is. I felt like a rock in front of a mountain..

" I need a dosed!"

"Dosed of what?"

"Blood! You fool! You're a Friend now, but you're still a Puddle of Blood."

" Puddle of Blood?!"

" Oh! Don't be offended, it's a term we use to refer to blood donors. Come on, I need some dosed."

"Okay!" I lifted my shirt, offering my arm to receive the needle.

As they removed my blood, I asked Diva: “Are all those at the party vampires?”

Ashley, who was applying black pencil around her eyes, replied: “Some are, others you don’t know.”

“How do you know who is a vampire and who isn’t?”

“You can’t, but I can…”

One of the twins who had tied a plastic sheet to my arm to catch the blood said:

“Aura!”

The other twin who was sucking my blood with a syringe repeated: “Yeah! Aura!”

“ Aura?!” I wondered what they were referring to. After which Ashley clarified for me:

“ Aura! Vampires can see other vampires' auras, if you ever turn into one you can see it too.”

That intrigued me, me a vampire?!

“I…am I going to have to become a vampire too?”

“Only if you want to, my friend.”

“Do I have the right to choose?”

Ashley looked at me. “I know what’s going through your head, I had that doubt too, to become a vampire or not? That’s the question. If being a vampire has a weight. Being a preppy vampire has a different taste!”

“ Flavor Rose …”

“That's why our Sorority is called that. When you're in your last year of college, we'll call you to the final meeting, and there you can go from being a friend to becoming a diva, which means keeping your youth forever. I'm twenty-eight years old, infinitely. But there's a burden: you'll never be able to walk in the daytime again. Never! Because you'll risk disappearing. So the choice is yours in the end. You're given seven days to think about it. On the eighth day, your decision is declared. If you say no, you'll be a friend of the sorority forever... oh, I forgot, you mortals don't live forever, so it's until you die...”

“ Equal the Poline?”

Ashley's face immediately became serious. She seemed to hate Poline.

“ Yes, she and I studied and attended the sorority together, when the time came to make the decision, Poline chose to be a mortal with a lot of skin hanging down just so she could see the sunlight. Not me, I am beautiful and perfect forever!”

“ As long as it doesn't see the sunlight...” I laughed, but Ashley didn't find it funny.

I regretted saying that. Ashley looked at me angrily, even more so than when I mentioned her ex-colleague's name. She sighed deeply in disgust and said, ignoring what I said:

“Come on, Puddler of Blood, I want to take my dose right away, because today is a party and I want to dance with all the energy in my body, after all, today there is a special guest...”

I was going to ask who it was, but I put it off. The syringe containing my precious red liquid was transferred to Ashley. I figured she would put the needle in her mouth and swallow it all, but no… to my surprise. She pulled out a super stylish square glass vial from a jar, and inside it was… cocaine! She started injecting my blood into the vial of white powder, while using the needle to mix it all together.

“Is this a drug?”

“Is it? What’s wrong? Are you going to be a moralist now, you puddle of blood?”

“No, nothing against it!”

“When you’re a vampire, you don’t get addicted, but you can still feel the sensations it transmits.”

Then Ashley took a small mirror and put the powder mixed with my blood on it, making a thin line, and with a pen tube she sucked it into her nose. I don't know if I was vomiting because I saw someone taking drugs or because I saw my blood being snorted..

With the edge of her nose still dirty with reddish powder, she offered me:

“Want to have a hit? Pure, it doesn’t have to be the blood kind.”

“No! I don’t do drugs.”

“Boring!” she said about me, turning around and taking another drag of the blood cocaine.

One of the twins gave me a bandage to put on the bite, I already had three on my arm. That's when I suddenly heard motorcycles making radical maneuver noises outside the Pink Mansion.

“Ah! He’s here!” Ashley shouted excitedly. She stood up, finished the rest of her makeup and headed for the hallway, pushing past the other twin who was carrying a tub of ice cream for me.

Tifany or Tayla, I never knew who was who, gave me the jar of candy and said to me in these words:

“Here, eat this, eating candy helps the body create blood faster.”

“When I was Darling, they never gave me candy.”

“ Dalings have no rights to anything, just Friends!”

And he smiled. I quickly grabbed the pot and started eating. However, the guest, who, by the sound of it, came by motorcycle, intrigued me:

“Who is the special guest that Ashley is excited about?”

“ It's William Blake! Her crush.”

“Blake?!” At the time, despite the strong name, I never imagined that that name would affect my life forever. The twins explained to me, one by one, how they used to complete what each other said. I never knew if it was a habit or a plan on their part:

“ Blake is a vampire biker.”

“ Ashley loves him.”

So I asked: “Is he her boyfriend?”

“No!!” they both answered at the same time, to the point that I was startled by their synchronicity. Then, sharing their answers, they each said to me:

“She loves Blake.”

“But Blake doesn’t love her.”

“Why doesn’t he like her? She’s a great woman. Any man’s dream come true.”

“Blake doesn’t like women!!” they replied.

“Is he gay?”

“No!!” I was startled again by the two’s answers.

“Blake is asexual!!”
“He doesn’t like…women or men?…”

“Exactly!!”

“And does Ashley know about that?”

“Yes!” Tayla or Tifany, I don’t know which, replied, the other one added: “He told her himself, after she declared her love for him.”

“But she insists.” Said one of them, and the other added:

“Yeah! Ashley believes that a handsome vampire like Blake is only asexual because he hasn’t seen or tasted her vagina yet.”

“And has he tasted her yet?”

“No!!” The two of them replied, bursting into laughter. I couldn’t help it, I laughed too.
