Chapter 53 Chapter Fifty-Three

Chapter 53 Chapter Fifty-Three
I look around the room again, daring them to say something or even move wrong. I see a few of the younger council members swallow hard. Their throats bobbing with the action. A couple of them shake their heads no, when I make eye contact. The rest of them stay perfectly still, eyes wide like some kind of fear filled statue.

When no one else says anything whether it be from fear or self preservation, I nod my head, satisfied that I got my point across. "Now back to Leilani's Alpha Ceremony." I say loudly.

Someone clears their throat and I look over at him. It's Braisen. One of our youngest and newest council members. He usually isn't very vocal at these meetings, so I'm intrigued to know what is on his mind. Especially after what he just witnessed.

"Beta Malakai. I um-" He starts, and nervously clears his throat again. "This is my first alpha ceremony, I was just wondering what to expect?" He pretty much mumbles. Then adds. "Sir."

"That's a good question Braisen. Thank you for speaking up. This ceremony will be a little different considering Leilani's age and the fact that she is going to be our first female alpha. However the gist of everything will be the same." I tell him, looking him in the eyes since he is the only one that has enough balls to make eye contact with me after what happened earlier.

I look around the room before returning my attention to Braisen, then I continue. "The ceremony will start with her being sworn in. She will make a blood oathe to protect the pack from any and all dangers. She will appoint a new Beta if she so wishes and she will go around interacting with all the pack members addressing any concerns they might have for the packs future. The rest is pretty much like a pack wide party, celebrating her new position."

Braisen nods his head thoughtfully. "How is that different from a ceremony with a male alpha, Beta Malakai?" He asks, this time sounding a little more confident.

"Well normally to prove their strength and ability to protect the pack, the new alpha would fight with the pack's best warrior. We will not being doing that this time. Not because Leilani doesn't want to or isn't capable but because it's not appropriate." I feel the need to clarify. I don't want anyone thinking less of her, based on a decision she had nothing to do with.

"Thank you for explaining Beta Malakai." Braisen says and I nod to him.

"Does anyone else have any questions?" I am looking around the room.

No one says anything, not that I was expecting them to. "Do you need us to start preparing the ceremony Beta Malakai?" Another one of our younger council members asks.

"I don't have an exact date for her ceremony, but Alpha Tiberius would like for it to take effect as soon as I think she's ready. Which will be sooner rather than later, so everyone just be prepared. I will announce the date as soon as I know one."

I look around the table one last time. "If anyone has a problem with Leilani becoming alpha feel free to take it up with me or Alpha Tiberius. But let me tell you, we will both say the same thing. You can respect Leilani or get the hell out of our pack, just know if you leave this pack you will be labeled as an untrustworthy traitor and no packs will take you in. Not even our worst enemies."

Everyone nods their heads in understanding and I dismiss the meeting. They clear out so quickly I'm surprised there isn't people shaped holes in the wall like what you see in a cartoon movie. I wait for everybody to leave, before collapsing in the chair. I pinch the bridge of my nose between my two fingers and sigh.

I look down at Sallas' body. I wonder if I should tell Leilani about what happened. I don't want her to be upset. I know she knows I've killed before, but I don't think she knows I've killed other pack members. I don't want to keep secrets from her though. If he had just kept his mouth shut I wouldn't be having to think about this crap.

I will get someone to clean this mess up, I can't look at this piece of shit anymore. Not without getting even more angry. I stand up and walk out. I need to go to the courthouse and look at the archives.

There has to be some information somewhere about wolves with special gifts. I know there hasn't been any talk but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. I head straight to the archive room, no one asks questions or tries to stop me.

I spend the next few hours going back as far as our written pack history will go. Not one single thing about special wolves. How is that even possible? I just don't believe it.

This was a waste of time. Time I could have been spending with Leilani. My perfect angel. I head back to the house and find Leilani in the backyard. She's laying flat on her back, staring up at the sky. I can hear her grumbling something to herself and I can't help but smile.

Apparently training isn't going well. I walk as quietly as I can to try and sneak up on her, but it doesn't work. Leilani sighs. "You can stop trying to scare me Malakai. I'm to irritated to be scared."

I start laughing and walk over laying on the ground beside her. "Why are you irritated babygirl?"

"I can't control my gifts." She huffs.

I can't help but chuckle. "Oh baby, it's okay. You will get control of them. We just need to practice more." I say taking her hand in mine.

"I just want control of it. I don't want to accidentally hurt someone because I get mad or upset or something."

I smile at her reassuringly. "You won't babygirl. Come on now let's do some training."
