Chapter 43 Chapter Forty-Three
I feel my body temperature rising, it feels like my body is electrified, tingling everywhere. "I think it's happening." I say through the mind link, not sure if it's a question or a warning. I don't want to hurt him and I have never had it happen in wolf form.
As a wolf we are already more powerful, and whatever happens inside me makes me unexplainably stronger and faster. I don't know what will happen and I'm honestly a little afraid to know.
"Don't fight it Angel. Let it happen." Malakai says through the link and I do as he says. I let my body do whatever it's going to do. I keep getting hotter and hotter until I feel like my fur might catch on fire.
Malakai growls at me and I move again, breaking free from his hold with no problems. I get on all fours growling and snarling at him. He gets in a fighting stance and charges at me. Snapping he grabs ahold of my shoulder, biting hard. I hear the sound of bones crunching and breaking. I know that it's mine but I don't feel it, I only feel a little pressure, then nothing.
Malakai grabs me again slamming me on the ground. I jump up charging at him. He tries to dodge me, but I'm to fast. I grab his neck, clamping down hard. I feel the crunch on bones in my mouth and I taste the metallic bitterness of blood.
Malakai yelps, but I don't stop, I feel like I'm not even in control of myself anymore. He doesn't give up either, he keeps fighting back fueling my anger. He claws and bites at me until he finally breaks loose from my hold.
We circle each other, growling and snarling spit flying everywhere. That's when I smell it. The most awful smell I have ever smelt. A mixture of rotting flesh and skunk. The smell keeps getting closer and every hair on my body stands straight up.
Malakai must smell it too, because he turns his attention in the direction of the smell. He growls a deep, threatening sound. "What is that smell?" I ask through the link.
"Rogues, they are close. There is at least two of them." Malakai says, getting in a fighting stance.
"How can you tell there is two?" I ask, genuinely curious and very nervous. I have never had to fight anyone except Malakai and I know he would never actually hurt me.
"Focus your senses, take a deep breath. There is a slight distinction between their scents." He says, scanning the tree line.
"They both smell awful. I don't know how you can tell the difference."
"Try baby. Focus on each individual smell." Malakai encourages.
I do as he said. I focus on each individual smell, at first I can't tell any difference. It still smells like one nasty dead thing. The smell comes a little closer and I feel the electried feeling shooting through my body again.
I sniff again and I can smell everything, the forest, the dirt, the nearby pack members and the distinction between the awful smells. Each one has an under layer of something different. One has a hint of lavender, under the awful overpowering scent. Another smells a little like cinnamon, and I sniff again. "There is a third one." I say through the link, feeling slightly panicked.
Malakai sniffs the air again and snarls. "You're right baby." He says, and I can feel the pride radiating off of him.
How will we fight off three rogues? There is only two of us and I am new to fighting. I don't know how much help I will be to Malakai and I don't want to let him down. I want to make him proud, I want to make my pack proud.
"They're close. Get ready baby." Malakai says.
I growl as the first rogue comes into view. This is my first time seeing one in person. His fur is all matted up, and dirty. His teeth are yellow and some are missing.
Malakai rushes at him, and all you can hear is the sound of snapping jaws and tearing flesh. The other two rogues come into view growling and drooling. The one on the left snaps once and rushes at me. I easily dodge him, tackling the other to the ground.
He yelps under me as I tear at his neck. I don't stop I keep biting and tearing until I taste that bitter metallic taste again. Before I can finish him off I'm tackled, thrown to the ground. I yelp and get up charging at the rogue.
We go at it, a tangle of legs and snapping teeth. The other rogue bites the back of my thigh and I howl in pain. I can hear Malakai's voice ringing out through our link but I ignore him.
I channel all my anger and pain. Focusing on the anger. Anger seems to be the trigger. I feel another bone crunch and I growl loudly. The pain slowly dissipates and I swing around grabbing ahold of the rogues neck.
I rip at his neck and the rogue howls in pain, I keep ripping until there is no more whimpering, howling or snarling coming from the rogue. The other rogue stares at me for a minute, probably debating whether to run or not. He chooses not to.
I growl and he charges at me, I grab him by the neck mid air, when he lunges at me. I bite his neck, snapping hard. I feel the bone snap and his body goes limp. I drop him to the ground and turn to make sure Malakai is okay.
I find him staring at me, the third rogue laying limp on the ground close to him. The electrified tingle slowly subsides and I feel my body temperature returning to normal. "Are you okay?" I ask Malakai through our link, scanning his body for injuries.
Malakai chuckles through the link. "I am fine Angel. I was going to help you. When I saw you being attacked by two rogues I panicked a little. I didn't want you to get hurt."
"Why didn't you help me?" I ask genuinely confused. Why would he panic but then decide not to help me?
