Chapter 85 Better Job
Chapter 85 Better Job
The moment Chloe received Peter's call, she felt a bit excited.
Since they met at the clothing store that day, Peter hadn't reached out to her on his own. She thought this path wasn't going to work out, but here he was, calling.
"Chloe, my wife really likes the clothes from your store too. Pick out five sets of this season's new arrivals and bring them over. The commission will all go to you."
Chloe seemed very excited, but her voice remained calm.
"Alright, I'll bring them over today."
Chloe was supposed to have the day off, but with such a big order coming in, she couldn't think about her day off. She personally went to the store to select the items, then took a taxi to deliver them to Peter.
Peter himself answered the door. Chloe had a proper smile on her face.
"Sorry to trouble you, Mr. Jackson. Is Mrs. Jackson home? If anything doesn't fit, I can take it back to exchange."
Peter led Chloe inside and had Helena put the clothes in Calla's dressing room, then brought Chloe to his study.
"I'm buying clothes from your store because of you. The moment I saw you that day, I could tell you're meant for greater things. You absolutely shouldn't be stuck in a store selling clothes."
Peter was hinting at something. When Chloe found herself alone with Peter in a room, she guessed he might have other intentions.
Peter's face had played a big role in tricking Nola back in the day. Although he was over forty, he looked very refined—much better than those ugly middle-aged businessmen Chloe had seen at the club.
He might not compare to Edward, but he was still a decent choice.
Plus, after the humiliation Maya gave Chloe at the store that day, if she could climb to a position beside Peter, she could slowly get her revenge on Maya.
"I'm from a small town. I don't have any connections here. What else could I do besides selling clothes?"
Seeing her pitiful expression, Peter knew she was playing hard to get. He had later found out that Chloe also worked at a club, which made this even easier.
"You're so beautiful, and we were meant to meet. If you need it, I can introduce you to other work. Here's a hundred thousand dollars. Quit your job at the club and wait for my call."
Chloe looked at the card Peter handed her, thought for a moment, and accepted it.
"Let me thank you in advance, Mr. Jackson. If I make it big, I'll never forget the opportunity you've given me today."
Peter patted her hand.
"My daughter has a hot temper. Apologize to her for what happened that day. I'll smooth things over, and since you two will be seeing each other more often in the future, don't make it unpleasant."
Carrot and stick.
That day Maya had completely humiliated her one-sidedly, and now she had to apologize to Maya. Money really does make the world go round.
"Alright, I know what to do."
……
Maya had just been lectured by Peter yesterday, so today she insisted on going out to relax. Since she was pregnant, Peter suddenly decided to assign her a driver.
Arriving at the downtown mall, while the driver was looking for a parking spot, Maya immediately recognized Donna's car—a limited edition that looked much more impressive than hers. She'd heard it was a birthday gift Donna got some year.
Maya wanted one too, but Peter said he didn't have the money and would buy her one later. That was just an empty promise—Maya knew everything.
Why was Donna here, too? Was she following her?
"See that car ahead? Wherever she parks, you cut in right away and take her spot."
The driver was a bit troubled. Parking spots weren't scarce at this mall, and he didn't understand why Maya insisted on competing with someone else. Plus, Maya was pregnant, and he drove very carefully, afraid that something might happen while fighting for a parking spot. He couldn't take that responsibility.
"Why aren't you going? If you don't do what I say, I'll dock this month's pay!"
The driver had no choice but to do as Maya said.
Donna saw two empty spots ahead and drove over to park. But before she could turn the steering wheel, a car cut across behind her. If she reversed, she'd hit the other car directly. Seeing no movement from the other party for a while, Donna didn't make a fuss and just drove off to find another spot.
But that same car used the same tactic, blocking her new parking spot.
Donna knew it was intentional. She unbuckled her seatbelt and walked over. Before she could knock on the window, it rolled down.
"Maya? That makes sense."
Donna had wanted to argue with them, but the moment she saw Maya's face, she instantly lost the desire to reason with her. You can't reason with a wild animal.
Maya looked proud.
"I'm going to take everything you want. And why are you here? Are you following me?"
Donna found it amusing. "Is this mall owned by your family? Oh, wait, your dad probably can't afford to own such a fancy mall anymore. Do you even have money to shop?"
"If it wasn't for you, how could Dad be so poor now? Did you tell Dad I spent a million dollars? That was money you tricked out of me!"
Maya was being completely unreasonable. Donna found it funny.
"You're the one who did it. The IOU you wrote is in my bag right now. When your store makes money next month, I'll personally come to collect. I hope you'll have the money ready by then."
Donna didn't want to waste more words with her. She got back in her car, stepped on the gas, and turned the steering wheel quickly. Before Maya could react, she'd already parked and headed upstairs with her bag.
Maya could only glare from behind.
Just then, Chloe called. "Ms. Coleman, where are you now?"
"What's the rush? Are you dying or something! I'll be right there."
Maya hung up roughly, as if the phone were Donna, jabbing at it hard.
Chloe's expression turned ugly, but she only dared to vent after the call ended.
Meanwhile, Donna had arrived at the place she'd agreed to meet Leo—an upscale restaurant.
Leo sat in the private room. When the door opened, Donna walked in wearing a limited-edition blue dress from a luxury brand's current season, with diamonds along the hem. The matching white heels had ribbons tied into bows on top, and a complete set of diamonds adorned her neck, wrists, and earlobes. She looked so elegant. He used to think Donna was too flashy and say Maya was pure, but now he suddenly felt that Donna's kind of class was more attractive.
