Chapter 84 Buyout
Chapter 84 Buyout
Donna just kept scrolling through her phone, watching to see how long Peter could stay silent.
Peter had already figured out how he'd deal with Maya when he got back, but that was a separate matter.
"Donna, so you're really not going to give me the five million dollars? Aren't you afraid of being criticized and cursed at?"
Donna's expression shifted slightly. Peter thought he'd gotten to her and showed a smug look on his face.
Actually, what Donna was thinking was that she needed to cut ties with Peter as soon as possible.
With Peter's stupid brain, he'd cause trouble sooner or later. Their relationship was already extremely strained, but outsiders didn't see it that way. Legally speaking, they were still father and daughter.
Like today, when Peter came to see her, just because Peter was her biological father, she couldn't leave him outside at the door, and she couldn't just let Peter go out and say whatever he wanted.
Donna pressed her lips together, her fingers tapping on her arm now and then.
"I can give you the money, but not now. In two days, bring the document to terminate our parent-child relationship, come to my door, and sign it with me. I'll give you the five million dollars, and I won't ask you to pay it back."
Peter's expression turned vicious. "You think you can get rid of me with just five million dollars?"
He knew that Donna only had hatred for him now. If she hadn't married Edward, he would have kicked Donna aside long ago.
"If you refuse, then you get nothing. And you know me - I won't give up until I reach my goal. Whatever methods I use after this won't be as gentle as today. Are you sure you can stand up to me right now?"
Donna analyzed the pros and cons, then gave him one final warning.
"If you agree now, at least you'll get some money. Otherwise, I'll ruin your reputation completely."
As Donna said this, she smiled. Peter suddenly remembered - the last time when Donna said she'd destroy the Jackson Group, she had the same expression.
Honestly, Peter was getting a bit scared now.
He gritted his teeth. "I agree. Just make sure you have the money ready."
"It's only five million dollars. How long does that take to prepare?"
This comment nearly killed Peter with anger. The money Peter was desperately waiting for was so insignificant in Donna's mouth.
Sure enough, marrying well was key. Too bad the Russell family didn't have a daughter back then, and it wasn't as easy to fool as Nola. Otherwise, he, Peter, would be the one running the Russell family now.
……
After getting shut down at Donna's place, when Peter got home, ready to question Maya about where she'd spent the one million dollars, Calla said Maya had gone out shopping. This made him so angry that he immediately called Maya back.
When Maya appeared in the living room carrying shopping bags, Peter's anger reached its peak.
"With our family's current situation, you're still shopping so extravagantly. Do you even care about our family's difficulties? All you do every day is go out and mess around."
Peter had clearly reminded Maya before going out that she should check on the store, but who knew Maya had gone shopping again.
Maya didn't know whether to hand over the bag in her hand. It was the most expensive thing she'd bought, and it was a gift for Peter.
"Dad, why are you so angry? I represent the Jackson family now. Those old clothes can't be worn out in public anymore. I didn't want to embarrass you, so I bought these. And this one is for you."
Peter knew that the brand was very expensive. He used to like it, but now every penny had to be spent where it mattered. Maya's behavior was just wrong.
"Don't change the subject. How much did you spend on these? Why didn't you use the card I gave you?"
Peter had given Maya a secondary card from the start. Whenever Maya spent anything, he'd get a notification.
Maya's enthusiasm had been cursed at, and she already felt terrible. The card Peter mentioned barely had any money on it. Besides, most of these things she'd coaxed Leo into buying.
"About five hundred thousand dollars."
When Peter heard the specific number, he jumped up from the sofa and started cursing at Maya.
"How can you be so wasteful? Five hundred thousand dollars - do you know how long it takes to earn that? And these past few days, you spent one million dollars - what else did you buy? I invested all the upfront money for your store. Any profit should come to me first. And it's not even making money yet, but you're spending like this. Are you some poor person who suddenly got rich and can't stand not spending money?"
The poor life from before had always been a thorn in Maya's heart. Delilah was very stingy and never let her live well, so when the generous Peter appeared, she developed a strong dependence on him. Finally, after all the hardship, she could openly call Peter dad, but who knew he'd say such hurtful things.
Maya threw down what she was holding and cried out in grievance.
"I didn't pay for all of this myself. You told me to please Leo, and I did. Most of this was Leo's money. I even bought you a gift. As for that one million dollars, Donna tricked me into spending it. You should go find her - the money's all in her pocket now."
"I know I'm not as good as Donna, so I'm obedient and well-behaved, not daring to upset you. I always think of you when there's something good. But who knew you'd just listen to Donna's provocation and come yell at me. You're my everything. If even you dislike me now, what's the point of living?"
Maya's manipulative tactics came naturally - she knew exactly how to handle men.
Just as she got up to grab the fruit knife on the table, Peter quickly stopped her.
"I was just talking. Don't get so worked up. You're pregnant - we can't have anything go wrong."
Otherwise, Peter's dream of climbing up to the Russell family would be completely shattered.
Maya didn't dare actually do anything. When Peter stopped her, she went along with it and gave up.
Peter sat back down, rubbing his hands over his face, looking very troubled.
"I didn't really want to lose my temper at you. It's just that we're out of money, so I'm a bit stressed."
Maya softly comforted him from the side.
"Is it because Donna won't help us? I remember Calla's Godfather is a very powerful person. Why don't you try asking him again?"
Peter looked up at Maya's face, then glanced at her belly.
"Four months pregnant now? How are you feeling?"
"The doctor says everything's stable."
This pregnancy was really going well for Maya. No matter how much her emotions fluctuated, it didn't affect the baby.
Peter thought to himself that when Maya reached five months, he'd send her to Dino.
