Chapter 74 Taken a Liking to His Daughter
Chapter 74 Taken a Liking to His Daughter
When Peter yelled at her like that, Maya suddenly felt so wronged she wanted to cry. Peter had just vented his anger, and now he could only force himself to calm down for the moment.
Maya was his biggest bargaining chip right now - he had to keep her stable. Besides, he'd already invested so much money in the design department, he had to see some returns!
"You should go upstairs."
Reluctantly, Maya agreed to follow Peter's advice.. Peter's mood was clearly agitated today, and if Maya stayed here any longer, she might get caught in the crossfire.
Peter just stayed in the living room like that. For two hours, he kept checking his phone. Finally, after another hour passed, Calla came back.
The moment Calla walked in, Peter noticed the unnatural look on her face and her red-rimmed eyes.
"Calla, why are you back so early?"
Calla held back her anger. She'd deliberately checked in the car just now - her eyes were red, obviously from crying. She didn't believe Peter couldn't see it from such a close distance, yet now he showed no concern for her at all.
She suddenly felt tired. Without saying anything, she lifted her leg to head upstairs.
But Peter blocked her way first.
"I'm asking you a question. Why are you back so early? What's the situation with my godfather?"
Realizing he cared only about the task, Calla suddenly exploded.
"Is your godfather all you care about? Don't you care about my wellbeing at all!"
Before marrying Peter, Calla had been the only daughter of a middle-class family. She'd fallen for him at first sight, then became his mistress. Fortunately, Peter valued loyalty - he quickly got rid of Nola and married her.
At the time, Calla thought she was the happiest person in the world - the man she loved was completely on her side.
Who would have thought that once the company fell, Peter would personally send her to an old man's bed, just because that man liked her type!
The first time, Calla had to do a lot of mental preparation to convince herself to get into that old man's bed. The old man was very old, but he liked to play rough. These past two times had left her a complete mess. Today it ended even earlier - he said he was bored.
She hadn't complained about the old man's poor bedroom skills, yet he dared to complain that she was boring!
Thinking of what Peter had asked her to do, she shamelessly tried to please the old man, but he actually kicked her off and told her not to come back.
Calla told Peter about all this in very tactful terms. She had her pride too.
After hearing it all, Peter only asked one question.
"Did he give you money this time?"
Calla roared and threw her purse at Peter.
"I'm not out there prostituting myself! Is money all you have in your head now? Have you forgotten I'm still your wife!"
"I know you're my wife. Don't you think it hurts me to see you like this? But our company is important. Without money, I can't attract more investors. When will we ever make a comeback?"
Perhaps Peter's words were persuasive enough that Calla weakly replied.
"He said maybe later."
Peter suddenly went silent. That phrase meant rejection.
This godfather was someone Peter had worked hard to connect with years ago. He had tons of money, but he was very shrewd - he wouldn't give up a penny unless Peter had something that really impressed him.
"You go upstairs first. I'm going out."
Peter wasn't willing to give up on this cash cow, so he decided to go talk to him personally.
Peter went to a nearby mall, bought lots of gifts, and then came to the hotel.
Peter's godfather was very cautious. Even staying at the hotel, he had four bodyguards at the door. Peter first identified himself, then stated his purpose. After they went in to report, they let him in.
As soon as Peter entered, he put the items on the coffee table and stood beside him.
"Godfather, I'm sorry to disturb you at this hour."
Dino Thibodeaux had a scantily dressed beauty sitting next to him. When Peter spoke, she tactfully left.
"What are you doing here?"
"Calla didn't serve you well today. I came to apologize."
Peter's attitude was perfect, but Dino didn't care at all.
"Your wife tastes pretty good, but she's getting older and doesn't take care of herself, so naturally there are some problems. So don't send her over anymore."
Peter wanted to curse him for being picky, but his face showed nothing. Instead, he was even more flattering, as if it would be fine for Dino to sleep with his wife right in front of him.
"Yeah, it's all her fault."
"I heard you have a daughter."
Dino showed no interest in Calla, cutting straight to the point.
Peter's face showed shock. Was he interested in Maya?
"Godfather, my daughter is too young. She doesn't know how to serve people."
"If she doesn't know, she can learn slowly. But I didn't say anything - don't jump to conclusions."
Dino smiled, as if Peter had misunderstood him.
"I just thought that since she's your daughter, given our relationship, I should give her a gift worth a few hundred million dollars when we meet. Since you're being so distant, let's just not meet."
Peter's mind was full of those hundreds of millions of dollars, but between a basket of eggs and a hen that lays eggs, he could still tell which was more important.
The Russell family's status was much better than Dino's now. Maya was pregnant, and with Dino's level of roughness, the baby might be gone in a few days. Even if Dino could give him hundreds of millions of dollars, he couldn't bring himself to do it.
"Godfather, my daughter is really too young. Why don't you pick someone else? Whoever it is, I can get them for you."
Dino smirked and mocked.
"If I really wanted someone, do you think someone you could get with your abilities would be someone I couldn't get? Since you don't have that intention, I won't bring it up. I know you're looking for me because your company needs money. How about this - according to market rules, I'll lend it to you at five percent monthly interest. That's generous enough, right?"
Peter's eyes nearly popped. Five percent monthly interest? Was he out of his mind? But compared to outside banks, Dino's terms were still more reasonable. And with Peter's current financial situation, no bank was willing to lend him money anymore. He was about to agree when the other party added another line.
"You know what I used to do. Five percent monthly interest, plus one leg of course."
