Chapter 73: The Godfather Arrives

Had she not been so conscious of her street image, Karen would have let out a stream of profanity as she watched Donna turn and disappear into the street without her.

She had made a special trip here today, and the other woman was so ungrateful! Well then, she couldn't blame her for what came next.

Karen immediately sent a message in her group chat with friends, telling everyone not to buy Donna's accessories. Someone replied right away.

[I wouldn't even look at something that costs just a few hundred dollars.]

Karen got even angrier. She had already lowered herself for such cheap stuff, and Donna didn't appreciate it at all!

Luna noticed Donna's serious expression and went over to ask.

"What did she want from you?"

"She wanted me to set her up with Edward."

Luna's eyes went wide.

"I wondered why she came today - turns out she had other motives. Did you agree?"

Donna gently patted her head.

"How could I? Do I look that stupid to you?"

"No, but wait - doesn't she know you and Edward are married?"

"Probably not. After all, with the scandal that happened that day, the Russell family deliberately stopped talking about it to protect their reputation, so other people probably don't know either."

Donna found it a bit surprising that such a big figure as Edward could be married and people still didn't know.

Maybe things happened so suddenly that day that no media came to cover it.

Luna felt she had to warn her though.

"Be careful. I think this Karen is petty. She came here specially today and didn't get what she wanted, so she'll definitely cause you trouble. She's already forty and not married - she's probably waiting for Edward. You better keep an eye on your husband."

Then she felt she was being too dramatic.

"Edward's not blind though. Even though Karen looks like she's only in her thirties, Edward wouldn't be interested in her anyway."

She glanced at Donna beside her with her beautiful face - if she were a man choosing between the two women, she'd definitely pick Donna.

They hadn't even had lunch yet when Ivan called to say everything was sold out online, and even the physical store was completely empty.

So Donna had to end the livestream and close up. Connor's influence was just too huge - he'd sold out all her inventory, and the pre-order link had already gotten several thousand more orders.

"I really have you to thank today. Without you, I wouldn't have known how to handle that livestream."

Donna hadn't planned to livestream today, so she hadn't hired a professional host. At first she was just playing around with it herself, then when people came, she went to greet customers and left Ivan to handle the livestream alone.

Ivan smiled shyly.

"But it's really thanks to Connor. If he hadn't shown up in the livestream, anyway, it's all his credit."

Donna patted his shoulder politely.

"Don't say that. Everyone contributed today, and it's just that his contribution was the biggest. Can't help it - he's a Best Actor winner with millions of fans. Don't be discouraged though. I see potential in you, that's why I chose you. Keep working hard, and one day you'll have that kind of influence too."

After hearing Donna's words, Ivan's face blushedslightly, and he thanked her very sincerely.

"Thank you for believing in me, Ms. Jackson. I'll definitely work hard."

Donna considered him a friend. Seeing his fighting spirit reignited, she felt very pleased and took out cash she'd prepared from her bag.

"Let's work hard together. You worked so hard today, you must take this money. Go home and rest early."

She'd already paid Ivan in advance for appearing today, but hadn't he done extra work? Of course she had to pay an extra bonus to show her appreciation.

Everyone had left, and Luna hung on Donna.

"I'm so hungry! Let's get some food."

Donna closed the shop and took Luna out for a nice meal.

Not far away, Maya watched the two leave, grinding her back teeth to dust.

Why was Donna so lucky? After her shop got smashed, Connor just happened to pass by, making Donna's business today exceed hers!

Maya felt a wave of envy. Her shop had cost a huge amount of money, from promotion to hiring designers, lining up manufacturers, and now paying for endorsement deals. Today's sales were decent, but she hadn't made back her investment at all.

Meanwhile, Donna's upfront investment was far less than hers, yet today's sales exceeded hers.

She understood the value of celebrity fans. Even if Connor never returned, his followers would continue to support the brand. Why was Donna on such a lucky streak today?

And the manufacturers she'd poached from Donna all wanted to break their contracts with her, saying they wanted to take Donna's orders, that Donna was a rising star, that everything Maya had said before was fake. Some distributors said they'd take a loss just to get Donna's distribution rights.

Maya kept thinking about this until she got home and finally adjusted her attitude. Even with the Russell family's help, Peter's company was still not doing well. If he found out she'd lost so much money today, he'd definitely be unhappy again.

"Dad, do you have some good news?"

As soon as Maya walked in the door, she saw Peter's unhidden smile.

"The company's business is getting better, and you're doing well too. Of course I'm happy."

It was rare to hear praise from Peter. Maya's earlier gloom lifted, and she looked around before asking.

"Is Calla not home today?"

Peter's expression looked unnatural for a moment, but he quickly covered it up.

"She went out for something today. If you want to eat anything, just tell the servants, or you can go out to eat."

His godfather had come and wanted Calla to keep him company, but Peter wouldn't mention such a shameful thing in front of Maya.

When his godfather's plane landed, Peter had already packaged Calla up and sent her to the hotel where he'd be staying. The guy might be old, but he had money. As long as Calla spent one night with him, she could bring back a large sum of money that could solve his company's urgent problems.

"What could Calla possibly have to do?"

Maya was really curious. Calla usually just drank coffee, chatted with those wealthy ladies, and picked up Tom from school.

Because the Jackson family went bankrupt, Tom's hobby classes had moved from abroad back home.

But when she kept asking, Peter's face immediately darkened.

"Why are you asking so many questions? Mind your own business!"
