Chapter 83 New Job Offer

Chapter 83 New Job Offer
Brielle's POV

The morning sun peeked through the windows of the building as I stepped into the office of Tabitha's company. A sense of anticipation filled me. I haven't been here since my health scare and subsequent hospital stay. Now, a week after being released, I was finally ready to return to work. But little did I know that today would be anything but ordinary.

I walked through the bustling halls, nodding to familiar faces and exchanging polite greetings. The office seemed more vibrant than usual, or perhaps I was just seeing it with fresh eyes after everything I had been through. As I reached my desk, my phone chimed with a message from Tabitha, asking me to come to her office.

Curious, I made my way to her office, the sense of anticipation growing with each step. When I reached her door, I knocked lightly before entering.

“Good morning,” she greeted me with a warm smile. “Please, come in and have a seat.”

I walked over to her desk and pulled the chair out, taking a seat across from her, my curiosity piqued. “Good morning. You wanted to see me?”

“Yes, I did.” She leaned back in her chair, studying me with a thoughtful expression. “First, I want to say how thrilled I am with the success of your book. The response has been phenomenal. Radio presenters and bloggers are eager to interview you about it.”

I felt a blush creep up my cheeks. “Thank you. I’m still a bit overwhelmed by all the attention.”

“You deserve it. You have written something truly special.” She paused as if choosing her next words carefully. “And that brings me to why I called you in here today.”

I leaned forward, my heart pounding. “What is it?”

Tabitha smiled, a glint of excitement in her eyes. “I would like to offer you a new position within the company. We have been extremely impressed with your work, and we believe you would be perfect as the new manager of the publishing department.”

I blinked, trying to process her words. “The manager of the publishing department? But isn’t that Annabella’s position?”

Her smile widened. “Yes, it was. But after some recent developments, we have decided it’s time for a change. Annabella will be leaving the company, and we would like you to take her place.”

Overwhelmed, I sat back in the chair. “I don’t know what to say. This is such an incredible opportunity. Of course, I accept.” I didn't care what Annabella would think of it, but she had to remember that she brought it onto herself.

“Wonderful.” Tabitha stood up, walking around her desk, she extended her hand and I hesitantly placed mine in hers, and she shook my hand. “I have no doubt you will excel in this role. Now, why don’t you go to your new office and get settled in?” Tabitha pulled her hand away.

"Thank you so much," I smiled.

"This place needs more people like you. I will not tolerate anyone like Annabella to work here. I have worked so hard to build this place and I won't let anyone else ruin it with their agendas, especially when it comes to Rick within this company," she walked around the desk again and took a seat. "Things will only get better from here. I hope you enjoy your new job. If there are any issues, you can just let me or Rick know. We will have a meeting in two days' time to introduce you and anything else that needs to be discussed," she said.

"I will certainly attend. Thank you for always being the family that I never had," I smiled as I stood up.

"You are always welcome here," she smiled, and then I walked out of her office. I let the moment sink in. I was going to be a manager too, and I did not expect that so soon or at all, since my book is flourishing.

Still in a daze, I made my way to what was once Annabella’s office. As I approached, I saw Annabella inside, packing her things into boxes. Her face was a mask of anger and resentment, and when she saw me, her expression turned venomous.

“So, you’re the one taking my place,” she spat, her eyes narrowing.

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. “Annabella, I’m sorry things didn’t work out for you here. I hope you find success in whatever you do next.”

She scoffed, picking up a box and shoving it towards the door. “Save your pity, Brielle. You are just a little princess who got lucky. Don’t think for a second that you are better than me.”

A security guard appeared at the door, ready to escort Annabella out. She glared at me one last time before turning to leave, muttering under her breath.

As Annabella stormed past, Tabitha suddenly appeared, her presence commanding and authoritative. “Annabella,” she called out, her voice firm. “Remember that how you treat people reflects more on you than it does on them. You would do well to remember that in your next job.”

Annabella’s face turned crimson, but she said nothing, stalking out of the office with the security guard in tow. I watched her go, a mixture of relief and apprehension washing over me.

Tabitha turned to me, her expression softening. “I’m sorry you had to deal with that once again. Annabella’s behavior has been unacceptable for a long time. But now, it’s your time to shine.” she smiled.

I nodded, feeling a surge of gratitude. “Thank you. I won’t let you down.”

“I know you won’t,” she said with a smile. “Take your time to get settled. If you need anything, my door is always open.”

With that, she left, leaving me alone in my new office. I looked around, taking in the spacious room with its floor to ceiling windows and elegant furnishings. It was a bit similar to my old office next door, and I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment.

I spent the next hour organizing my desk and familiarizing myself with the files and documents left behind. There was a lot to do, but I was ready for the challenge.

As I sat down behind the desk to review some reports, I couldn’t help but think about how far I had come. From an aspiring writer to published author and now a manager in one of the most prestigious companies who have each department catering to anything needed. It was almost too much to believe.

Just then, my phone chimed with a text from Daylan.

Daylan: How is your first day as manager going?

I smiled, typing back a quick response.

Me: It’s going great. Just getting settled in. Can’t wait to tell you all about it tonight.

His reply came almost instantly.

Daylan: I’m so proud of you. You deserve everything.

I felt a warmth spread through me at his words. Daylan had been my rock through everything, and knowing he was proud of me meant the world.

As the day went on, I found myself growing more comfortable in my new role. I met a few key people that would work with me, mentioned a few upcoming projects, and started planning for the future. There was a lot to learn, but I was eager to dive in and make a difference.

By the time the day was over, I was exhausted but exhilarated. I packed up my things and headed home, my mind buzzing with ideas and plans.

When I walked into Daylan’s apartment, he greeted me with a warm hug and a kiss. “How was your day, manager? Tabitha told me.” he smiled.

I laughed, feeling the tension of the day melt away. “It was amazing. Overwhelming, but amazing. I can’t believe this is real.”

He pulled me close, his eyes filled with pride and love. “You have worked so hard for everything even when you weren't even long at the company. Tabitha knows your potential and what you are capable of. You deserve every bit of it.”

"Thank you," I smiled.

We spent the evening talking about my day, Daylan listening intently as I shared every detail. It felt good to be home, surrounded by love and support. I even mentioned the part of Annabella leaving the company. I will always remember that.

"I knew what Tabitha might have been planning, and I knew it was something like this. She can amaze us when she wants to. But I'm glad Annabella is gone, away from you because I don't want any other stress on you," he said.

"I'm happy too."

I just held onto this moment with Daylan, just cherishing all the little things.
