Chapter 43 Results
Daylan's POV

It was the third day. Brie was feeling a bit better, but I was still concerned. Whatever she tried to eat, she would vomit but bland meals she was able to keep down. Coffee is still out. I asked Tabitha to keep an eye on her while I worked, and she was more than happy to be there with Brie.

As I sat in thought at my desk, thinking about Brie, there was a knock on the door, "Come in," I called out. The door opened and Timothy appeared. I furrowed my brows, but anger resurfaced about what he had done to Brie.

"I wanted to discuss the project," he said as he entered, closing the door behind him.

"Well, if you made an appointment, then we could have discussed it better. I do have patients that I will be seeing. So, this is really not a great time." I shifted in my seat, trying to remain calm. But that was difficult for me as he stood in front of my desk. His hands in his dress pants.

"I can schedule a meeting tomorrow evening if that works for you," he said.

"I will confirm the meeting with you tomorrow. Sometimes, I have to tend to emergencies." I responded, I just wanted him to leave before I could do something to him. "I know that Brie is your stepsister, so you can also cut the act," I blurted out. I probably shouldn't have said anything because this might just fuel his need to go back to her and hit her again. "Just stay away from her, then we won't have any issues." I held his gaze.

His eyes were huge, but he didn't say anything in that moment, but instead he nodded, "Brie and I have an agreement. I see the way that you look at her and the way that she looks at you. I just never knew that you both were something or potential something. Look... I made mistakes in life and part of that is what I did to her. I have a family of my own and I don't want my past to haunt me. I feel bad about it already, and I do regret showing up at her apartment and hitting her." he sucked in a breath, "No one has to go through that. I'm here for the project and that is all."

"As long as you stay away from her, we can work on this together. This project means the world to me, so do not try anything funny because this project will cost millions. This is my baby so don't screw it up," I warned him.

"I promise that I won't screw it up. On the other hand, the board members are not keen on your project and part of me knows why. You were a playboy and those women, whether married or not, want a piece of you first before they can approve anything. I have experience in these kinds of things with certain women making deals of s^x before accepting anything. It will come back to you and, whatever happens, don't give in to them. Lessons that I've learned. We do this the hard way and that is working hard to get to the top, whether it is working with the hospital or doing it on our own. My advice to you, is create a brand on your own. We can still work together and create those medications and products that will help those in need. It will be a bestseller and these board members will see the success thereof." he said.

That wasn't a bad idea. "I will look into it, and it does sound like a brilliant idea." I was calmer now than when he entered my office.

"Your work is excellent. I'm surprised that you haven't started your own private practice," he smirked.

"Am I thinking what you're thinking?" I asked.

He nodded, "Only when those board members are still against it. Do whatever you like, and I will always be here to work with...no funny business. As you know, these things are also close to my heart and a reminder of my mother. I wouldn't screw anything up."

"I appreciate the advice, and it is a lot to think about."

"I will see you around, you have my number," he said, and then he walked out of my office.

He had some brilliant ideas, but why didn't I start my own private practice sooner? I was so busy caring for patients in a hospital that I never thought about that idea. My phone chimed and I reached for it. It was one of the nurses that I asked to take care of Brie's blood test results. Those results were in.

I stood up and walked out of my office, shoving my phone into my white coat's pocket. As I walked down the hallway, I spotted Abby also walking out of her office. She looked my way and she froze. I looked straight ahead as I walked past her. I know that we will still see each other in our working environment, and we have to work together at some point when needed, but I'm keeping my distance after what she did.

Now I was eager to know what Brie's results were. I entered the lab and found the nurse. "Doctor Hart, the results are back," she said as she reached for the document and handed it over to me. My heart was racing because I didn't want anything to be wrong with her.

I skimmed over the top of the document.

Pregnant status: The patient is approximately 8 weeks pregnant as indicated by the elevated hCG levels.
Pulmonary Embolism Risk: Elevated D-Dimer levels and increased CRP indicate a heightened risk for thrombotic events. The patient's known history of Pulmonary Embolism, combined with pregnancy, places her in a high-risk category for recurrent thrombotic events.

Immediate action: Initiate anticoagulant therapy to mitigate the risk of further thrombotic events.
Close monitoring of the patient's condition, especially during pregnancy, due to the increased risk of complications.

Schedule an appointment with a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine.
Regular blood tests to monitor coagulation status and hCG levels.
Schedule an ultrasound appointment.

Patient to be informed of the high-risk pregnancy status.
Ensure patient is aware of symptoms of potential complications and instructed to seek immediate medical attention if they occur.

My heart pounded in my chest, it was the only thing I could hear as I reread the important parts. It was like I couldn't breathe, my hand trembled. I caught myself with my hand on the desk from potentially passing out.

"Doctor Hart, are you alright?" my nurse snapped me out of it, it was like I was gasping for air, and she came around the desk, helping me to sit in a chair, still holding the document in my trembling hand. "I can get you some water." I continued to stare at the document in front of me.
