Chapter 34 Confrontations
Brielle's POV
I was back at work, I didn't receive so many stares today. Chantal was back at work today, but I was sitting at the table, my usual spot next to the floor to ceiling window. I was jotting down some memories about my mother. I brought my pen up to my mouth as I thought about her. I really hope that this search is successful when it comes to her. Knowing Tabitha, she would do anything. I just hope that she won't tell anyone else about this.
I snapped out of my thoughts as Abby sat across from me. I took the pen away from my mouth, resting my arm on the table as I looked at her, "I just wanted to have a chat with you," she smiled. But it was more of a condescending smile. She never even spoke to me like this before.
"What is there to chat about?" I asked as I began to tap the pen on the table. She looked at my hand and grew irritated, but I didn't care. "So?" I pushed, raising an eyebrow as she looked at me.
"I just wanted to tell you to back off when it comes to Daylan. He cannot be distracted with a project that he is busy with. We need this project to thrive with the board. Also, you do know that we are together, so don't mess with my man because you will have me to deal with." she hissed at me softly.
I let out a breath, "I see what you mean. I cannot be his patient because you are afraid that he will touch me in all the right places. Wasn't that what he did to some female patients? I bet you were jealous because he still f^cked other women despite having you as his f^ck buddy and not wanting to give you more for years," I held her gaze. "If he wants to f^ck me, I will gladly let him have me on that examination bed. You are not going to tell me what to do. Last time I checked, you are just a f^ck buddy who never moved on from a man who can't even give you what you want."
Her mask slipped off until she slipped it back on again, "That is far from true. Just stay the hell away from him, or I will make sure to keep you away," she said through clenched teeth before standing up. "I'm watching you," she said before she left.
The funny part was that it didn't even bother me at all, because I knew the truth and I had prepared myself if he ever went back to her again. At this point, I don't care because I'm too focused on my own life. She is so jealous and triggered by me that she actually had to tell me to back off. I scoffed as I shook my head in disbelief, looking out of the window.
"So, loverboy came around after you left. He was looking for you, but he didn't want to make it any obvious," Angela said as she took a seat across from me.
"He just doesn't stop or wants to stay away from me. So that's his way of seeing me," I shrugged.
"I'm still rooting for you both. You will make a great couple. I told him a piece of my mind though. I hope he takes what I said to heart," she said as she bit into a green apple.
I glared at her, "What did you say to him?" I asked.
"Nothing for you to know and all for him to know," she winked at me and then continued to chew.
"You never stop either," I chuckled.
"When I see a good thing, I won't give up. I see a good thing between you two. I also want what is best for you. Rick f^cked it all up and that made me disappointed in him. I was looking forward to seeing that wedding come true and to having little Hart running around." she smiled.
"Please, don't even say Hart, because Daylan is a Hart."
"Right." she said, acknowledging what I had said.
"I need a girls' night out. I don't want to be cooped up in the apartment. I want to have some fun," I said.
"Now, that's the spirit. We will go to the bar and chill. We got you." she smiled, taking another bite into her apple. Chantal was busy helping customers. "I saw f^ck buddy speak to you. She seemed like she was fuming. What did she want?"
I let out a sigh, "She told me to stay away from Daylan."
"She is jealous of you. I cannot stand that woman. She just...gives me bad vibes, and it's a bad thing that Daylan keeps her around. That is not good, especially since they f^cked before. If you want him, fight for him. That is all that I will say," she said as she stood up.
"I would rather focus on finding my mother than focus on a man," I replied.
"Don't give up just yet, men like Daylan will come around eventually and give you what you want. It always happens that way, you just need to give him that second chance," she advised before she walked off.
I wasn't sure that was what I wanted to do, but my mother was my priority now. I took my notebook and pen, then I went to the kitchen in the cafeteria. I packed my notebook in my backpack. I walked back out as Angela and Chantal helped customers. I had to use the bathroom, so I rounded the counter and exited the cafeteria, and then walked down the hallway towards the bathrooms.
I had to pass Daylan's office, but then, before I could walk past, he came out of his office, and then he turned in my direction. It was like I was holding my breath just taking in his attractiveness. He nearly froze in his spot as his eyes landed on me. As we were about to walk past each other, he stopped me by placing both of his hands on my shoulders, holding my gaze.
"I need to ask you something. I know that you don't want anything to do with me, but I don't want to ask anyone else," he said. It was like I got lost in those magnetic blue eyes. I broke eye contact as I looked around to see if anyone noticed his hands on me. I took a step back, pulling away from him.
"What is it?" I asked as I licked my lips from being dry. His eyes fell on them.
"Um... I wanted to ask if you could accompany me to a function next week. I don't want to go alone, and you are the one that comes to mind." he said, "So, will you go with me?" he asked, but it was more of a plea of desperation.
"I think you should ask Abby," I suggested.
"No, I don't want her to go with me anywhere. In fact, I'm sick of seeing her all the time and... I'm forced to work with her on this project. You don't understand her. When she sets her claws into something, she will not back down, she will not back down from this project. She knows everything about it even though it is my project. I needed her for it because she has some expertise in it. I would rather see you more than her." he said.
"Well, she did come to me and told me to back off. She wants you and I won't stop you both from being together. I'm sure that you both know each other's secrets and everything that I don't even know. Please just take her with you." I started to move past him, but he gripped my wrist, stopping me. The electricity still sparked through me.
"Please accompany me to the function. I won't be able to survive with Abby," I looked into his eyes. He was being serious about it.
I sucked in a breath, "Fine, I will go with you, but this is the last time, okay?"
"Thank you, I promise not to bother you after this function." he let go of my wrist and that spark disappeared.
"If that is all, then I need the bathroom." I said.
"There is one more thing." he looked at my attire in thought.
"What?" I raised an eyebrow.
"You need to wear a black dress and I will take you shopping. I won't take no for an answer," his eyes finally found mine. There was a little hunger in them, as if he wanted to undress me.
"I will make an exception, but only this once. I'm doing this for you. Tell your f^ck buddy to leave me alone because I will report her for harassment if she doesn't stay away." I said. "I know for a fact that she will be a problem when she finds out that I'm your plus one for the function."
"Trust me, she wouldn't know what hit her when I put her in her place. I can't believe that she confronted you. I will have a word with her," he said.
"Thank you. Now is that all?" I asked.
"That is all, I'm taking you shopping tomorrow morning. And thank you," he said.
I nodded, "I will see you then." and then I walked away from him.
There was still that connection between us. But it wasn't worth it, yet Angela's words came back to me that I shouldn't give up as yet. Do I continue to fight for him and wait until he eventually comes around to having a family when Tabitha clearly stated that he doesn't want that either? He wouldn't want to pursue a relationship knowing that we want two different things. Yet, Angela is confident that he will change his mind if he truly wants me. So, I guess I have to see how this wait will be.
