Chapter 89
Chapter 89
"Just say what you want to say. Otherwise, stop coming to see me." Aurora's voice was flat, completely cold.
Hearing this, Simon's voice carried suppressed anger as he finally asked, "You're so happy around other people, but when you see me, you give me this look?"
Aurora frowned slightly, a bit surprised. "What?"
"What part don't you understand?" Simon stepped closer. "Yesterday's summit, you attended it with Daniel, didn't you?"
His sudden mention of yesterday caught Aurora off guard. She looked up.
Her hair was still a bit damp. She'd been too irritated by Simon's arrival to move, and now stood there frozen with the towel in her hand.
Simon turned to look at her, as if suddenly realizing something, and leaned in.
His handsome face filled Aurora's vision.
Aurora suddenly remembered many moments from the past, when they were still close, still in love, when he would often lean in like this.
But more often, she had been the one to lean in, cupping his face to look at him.
She would say softly, "Simon, look at me. Look at your wife."
Even though they weren't married yet back then.
"Look at you, what about it?"
Every time they locked eyes, sweetness and happiness would spread between them, and Aurora had once believed they could be like that forever.
"Simon, stop with this nonsense."
The man before her could no longer overlap with the person who once loved her.
She raised her hand to push him away, but he caught her wrist.
"Aurora, I told you, we can start over."
Those words again.
Start over—start over for whom?
She looked up with a laugh, trying to shake off his grip on her wrist. When she couldn't, she continued, "Simon, if we start over, can you forget everything that happened before?"
The man's lips moved, his Adam's apple bobbing, as if he wanted to say something.
But before he could speak, Aurora's long lashes trembled hard, and she lowered her eyes.
Her voice was hoarse and desolate. "You can, but I can't. I can't forget."
"Just because of Blair? Aren't you satisfied with how I've handled things these past few times? If you don't want to deal with her, I'll have her leave the Coldridge Group."
Simon took the towel from her and naturally moved behind her, drying her hair.
One stroke at a time, gentle and slow.
He was like a dutiful servant attending to her, yet it stirred not a ripple in Aurora's heart.
"The problem between us stopped being about Blair a long time ago."
That rainy night only made her realize they were no longer right for each other.
What really mattered was that after that rainy night, it revealed all his indulgence toward Blair over the years.
Including the Ember family, and the person Blair mentioned—the one Simon truly cared about.
"You're hiding too many secrets, and I can't have children. We're no longer right for each other. Simon, we're not kids anymore. You know I'm not divorcing you over just one thing."
She didn't push Simon away, letting him silently finish drying her hair.
A moment later, Simon put down the towel and leaned against the nearby table, quietly observing his wife.
Actually, Simon had always known Aurora was beautiful. Her striking, radiant features, plus a quality about her that others didn't have.
She could easily capture anyone's attention, including Daniel's.
Yesterday's scene flashed before his eyes again.
Simon reached out and held her, though they weren't pressed together—an awkward position.
He said seriously, "Aurora, I won't divorce you. Whatever you want to know, I can tell you."
"Even about the past..."
Before he could finish, Aurora cut him off. "No need, Simon."
"I'm not interested in your secrets anymore. All I want now is for us to part on good terms."
Though at this point, parting on good terms hardly mattered.
The news about Aurora's inability to have children had spread everywhere. Even though she no longer wanted to have children with Simon, as a woman, it was still heartbreaking.
Everyone looked at her with pity.
She continued doing her makeup, touching up the concealer that had faded, saying softly, "Simon, there are some things you'll never understand."
She didn't acknowledge him again as she left.
Knowing Aurora had gone to work at Summit Capital, Simon rubbed his temples and received a call from the company.
"Got it, I'll be right there."
Aurora sat in her office, and at ten o'clock was called to a meeting.
Everyone present was senior management, all elites in the investment field. Daniel didn't hold back in discussing the main points.
"The Coldridge Group has always been our competitor. Now they're planning to do an investment project in Skyview City."
"We don't know yet how they plan to invest and implement it, but we can start looking at comparable projects."
After speaking, he glanced at Aurora.
The other executives remembered Aurora's identity and said cheerfully, "Why don't we have Ms. Montague handle this? After all, they're husband and wife."
"That's not right. If Ms. Montague gets information from Mr. Coldridge, that wouldn't be proper."
There was well-meaning discussion around the table.
Summit Capital was different from the Coldridge Group. Most people welcomed Aurora's addition rather than seeing her as a competitor.
Aurora looked down with a smile and said gently, "That really wouldn't be ethical. Besides, I'm getting divorced soon. I don't want too much conflict with the Coldridge Group."
Sincerity was her secret weapon, and it showed perfectly in Aurora.
Hearing this, the other executives exchanged glances, none daring to mention Simon or the Coldridge Group again.
When the meeting ended, Daniel asked Aurora to stay behind.
"What was that about just now?"
"What?" Aurora turned around.
She had just finished organizing her materials and looked at Daniel, not understanding what he meant.
"Why did you suddenly say that in the meeting?"
Aurora smiled. "It's nothing. I really am getting divorced anyway."
Discussing this alone with Daniel in the conference room felt a bit awkward.
"Do you need my help?"
Daniel's cryptic words made Aurora freeze, her lashes trembling again. "What?"
"With your divorce from Simon. There aren't many people in this city who would dare help you. I can find you a lawyer."
Aurora smiled bitterly. "It's not as hard as you think. I have a friend who's a lawyer who can help me."
"It's just that the Coldridge family and I haven't worked things out yet, so it's hard to say how it'll go."
She and Simon even had an agreement.
In other words, she didn't want to keep thinking about this right now.
Seeing that Aurora didn't want to discuss it, Daniel shook his head. "I understand. I didn't mean to pry."
"It's okay. If I need help, I'll ask you directly."
Leaving the conference room, Aurora's phone vibrated.
Opening it, she saw a message from Simon.
[I'm downstairs at Summit Capital. Need to talk to you alone.]
What was this man up to now?
