Chapter 86

Chapter 86

"Not for now, give it to me first."

That day, the financial lawyer gave Simon two agreements.

Simon sat in his office, staring at the two agreements for a long time, his brows furrowing again and again.

Of course he didn't want to let go. Being with Aurora had brought him plenty of benefits.

Whether it was the contract Aurora had given him back then, or their reputation as a loving couple. And at home, Yosef had always thought highly of Aurora, which helped Simon gain more leverage within the family.

Looking at all these conditions carefully, he really had no reason to separate from Aurora. But Aurora said she hated him!

He pressed a finger against his temple, trying to suppress his throbbing nerves.

Since Aurora said she wanted to divorce him, he hadn't had a single good night's sleep.

Waking up in the middle of last night, Simon had dreamed that Aurora was beside him. The two of them were like they used to be in their best times.

Aurora lay quietly beside him, her arms around his neck, asking him childish questions from time to time.

"Simon, do you really love me?"

"Will you stay with me forever?"

"Where should we go on our next vacation?"

Simon remembered that in his dream, he had mentioned the name of a resort.

Aurora paused for a moment, then patted his shoulder and laughed.

"Don't think I don't know what you're thinking by bringing up that place..."

That vacation resort was the first place they went after becoming a couple. During that holiday, the two of them stayed at the resort for a whole week.

Almost every day they were wrapped up in each other.

They watched a heavy snowfall at the resort, and when the roads got blocked, they were stuck there for several more days before they could return.

Looking back now, it all seemed like a dream.

When the dream ended, there was only an empty bed beside him.

Simon shook his head, struggling to clear the scattered thoughts from his mind.

He lowered his head and focused on the work in front of him.

Summit Capital.

As soon as Aurora returned to work, she was called to the office.

Daniel was sitting behind his desk, and when he saw Aurora come in, he greeted her.

"Wait a moment, let me sign this document."

Aurora nodded and sat down on the sofa nearby.

Daniel was busy, and Aurora wasn't in a hurry.

After a few minutes, she finally heard Daniel putting away the documents.

"Alright."

Aurora looked up at him, her cool eyes showing no emotion. "You called me over, is there something you need?"

Over the past few days, she had actually grown tired of communicating with people.

Especially after what happened at the banquet.

It had caused quite a stir, even making it onto some trending news topics. Although it was quickly taken down, Aurora still felt like many people were pointing fingers at her.

The fact that she couldn't have children was something she herself couldn't get past.

If it had been back when she loved Simon the most, she would indeed have regretted not seeking treatment in time.

That way, she might have been able to preserve her ability to have children.

But now, Aurora had lost all hope in Simon.

She didn't even want to be with him anymore, and divorce was a done deal. Why would she still care about having a child?

Aurora had a premonition in her heart, but the next second Daniel started talking about his family matters.

"Actually, I have many younger relatives in my family."

Aurora listened quietly, not understanding what this had to do with her work.

Daniel walked over, his long legs striding naturally as he sat down beside Aurora.

"There are many children in the family, and they all call me uncle. But my experience is that children are extremely troublesome."

This opening made Aurora's heart tighten.

Her clear, bright eyes stared straight at Daniel. "Are you trying to comfort me?"

"What else? Would a boss talk to you about such a strange topic?"

Aurora turned her face away. "You don't need to discuss this issue..."

"I just want to say that right now I'm your boss, and since you work at my company, you should be a bit happier."

Daniel rubbed his hands together and leaned back on the sofa.

"The happiness of having a child might indeed be incomparable to anything else, but the pain and trouble are also doubled. When my family was pressuring me to get married, they asked me why I wasn't getting married earlier, didn't I want to have my own children?"

As Aurora listened, she also turned her face away to stare ahead quietly.

Seeing that Daniel was determined to discuss this with her, if she didn't say anything now, it would seem disrespectful.

Daniel seemed to laugh softly, but there was bitterness in that laugh. "I replied that I hadn't even figured out my own career yet. If I rushed into marriage and had children, wouldn't I just be pushing all the responsibility onto my wife?"

"Besides, this era keeps changing. You never know what will happen tomorrow. How could I have children under such circumstances?"

Before she knew it, Aurora's eyes had reddened.

Her voice was hoarse as she said, "You just haven't thought it through and don't plan to. But I can't have children anymore."

"Sometimes this kind of humiliation is even more painful."

Daniel took a breath. "I didn't mean to bring up a topic that makes you sad."

"It's just that having children might not be as important to a person as you think. So try to relax."

Even though Daniel said this, Aurora still couldn't completely let it go.

She could only try her best not to think about it.

She raised her hand to rub her forehead, and after a while she spoke, "I should get back to work."

"This afternoon you need to come with me to a meeting. It's a small industry summit, but Summit Capital has been specially invited."

Daniel finally stated today's arrangement.

Aurora nodded in agreement and left the office.

Thinking back, Daniel was indeed trying to comfort her, though rather clumsily.

Aurora leaned against the office door, head down, staring at her toes.

It wasn't until the end that she lifted her head.

In the afternoon, Simon took her to the small industry summit.

As soon as Aurora arrived, she realized she probably shouldn't have agreed to this request.

Or perhaps what Daniel had said to her that morning was preparation for attending this meeting.

Because as soon as Aurora entered, several people looked over at her.

Their gazes were filled with naked curiosity.

Edward's banquet had only just passed, and Aurora's appearance here would inevitably cause a stir. Even if it was just whispered gossip, it was enough to make her irritated.

"Don't worry, I'll handle everything later. I just need you beside me to occasionally provide some information."

Daniel was also worried Aurora might be nervous, so he deliberately said this in her ear.

Aurora's throat felt tight. She didn't say much, just nodded slightly.

If she really couldn't bear it, she would leave early.
