Chapter 85

Chapter 85

What happened to the Ember family served as a wake-up call. Some people vaguely sensed that Edward seemed to care quite a bit about Aurora. But no one dared to say it openly.

Starting from that day, suddenly there were many rumors circulating in their social circle, saying that Simon would likely be partnering with the Radcliffe family next.

Simon frowned slightly when he heard this news.

"Has Mr. Radcliffe ever mentioned cooperating with us before?"

Simon asked his assistant Peter.

Peter shook his head, "He's never brought up anything like that. I don't know why suddenly..."

"I see. Someone must be deliberately spreading rumors."

After Peter left, Simon spun around in his chair once before calling Edward.

When Edward answered, his tone was flat, "Why are you suddenly calling me?"

"I want to ask why you went after the Ember family."

The person on the other end paused.

"Mr. Coldridge, you're really sharp. You figured out who was behind it so quickly."

The Ember family had indeed been through a lot these past few days.

But no one knew who was really behind those project issues.

Simon didn't hide anything, "Mr. Radcliffe, I want to know if you did this to protect Aurora?"

Since learning their secret, Simon had never told anyone about it.

Edward didn't answer this question.

Instead, he brought up the party, "I asked you to bring her because I wanted to talk to her about what happened before."

"I've never told Aurora about your identity. Don't worry, if you want to tell her yourself, I certainly won't say anything."

Edward was quite satisfied with Simon's attitude, "You're worthy of being someone she could fall for."

"You're too kind."

But thinking about everything the Ember family had been through, Simon hesitated for a moment before saying, "Actually, there's no need to specifically go after them."

"The Ember family is just riding on others' coattails. Their prosperity is all a bubble."

As long as they weren't given projects and resources, in a few months they would naturally fade away.

Simon had always used this as leverage against them.

Thinking about all the things he'd promised Blair before, he suddenly felt a bit of a headache coming on.

Edward heard the weariness in Simon's tone, "Now I want to ask you a question, and I need you to answer honestly."

"We're not business partners. Strictly speaking, you're just my elder, but... for the sake of your relationship with her, fine."

Simon was never one to be constrained by anything.

Edward sighed.

"I want to know, since your marriage is so unhappy, why won't you let go?"

"Because I've never thought about divorce, and my family won't allow it." Simon answered quickly.

Almost without thinking.

Edward seemed to laugh, his voice light and soft.

"I don't believe that reason."

"Simon, if you don't have any love for my daughter, I think separating would be the best choice for both of you. Right now she just doesn't have anyone backing her up, but what about later?"

Once people knew Aurora was Edward's daughter and all her identity information became public, Aurora would no longer be someone without backing.

In fact, given Edward's status and position, Aurora would only receive more respect in this circle.

Hearing this, Simon's eyelashes trembled slightly, as if thinking about something.

"Anyway, I've made myself very clear. She's my daughter, and I can't just ignore her."

After saying this, Edward gave a few more instructions, but most of them sounded like warnings.

He hung up directly. Simon stared at his phone, spinning it several times in the air.

He originally didn't plan to take Edward's words to heart, but thinking about Aurora, his head started aching.

In the end, he went straight home from the company.

Victoria had been in a bad mood these past few days and was looking for somewhere to vent. Seeing her son now, she immediately flared up.

"You still know to come home?"

The servants nearby heard this and knew they should leave, quickly departing.

For a moment, only mother and son remained in the living room.

Simon stared at Victoria, his face full of impatience, "What do you want to say now?"

"What do I want to say? And what's with this attitude toward me? I want to talk to you about whether you two are planning to have children or not!"

It always came back to the child issue.

Simon's head hurt. He pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I've said it before, even if she can't have children, I won't leave her."

Victoria looked up at Simon, "Did Yosef tell you all this?"

After thinking it over, the only person in the Coldridge family who would oppose Simon and Aurora's divorce was Yosef.

Because Yosef had been on Aurora's side from the beginning.

Simon stood with his hands in his pockets, looking down at his mother.

Victoria looked back at him just as defiantly. This was her son.

Victoria believed she absolutely had the right to interfere in all his affairs.

But the next second Simon spoke, "Stop interfering in our business from now on."

"Whether we divorce or not has nothing to do with you, and nothing to do with this family."

After saying this, Simon went upstairs to change clothes.

Leaving Victoria sitting in the living room, staring blankly at her hands.

She just wanted a grandchild, wanted Simon to have more leverage in the family competition. As a mother, what had she done wrong?

Thinking this, Victoria rubbed her temples, suppressing the tears that threatened to come.

The next morning, Simon went to the company and called for the lawyer directly.

"Come to my office. I need you to help me draft an agreement."

He'd thought about it for a long time last night and finally made a decision.

These past few days, Aurora had never contacted him. They'd never had such a long cold war before.

This was the first time Aurora seemed to completely not care about him anymore. Whether he agreed to divorce or not seemed to have nothing to do with her anymore.

When the lawyer walked in, the first thing he saw was Simon's face full of hostility.

"Mr. Coldridge, what agreement do you need me to draft?"

Simon didn't speak for a moment. His gaze was fixed outside the window, as if thinking about something important.

After a long while, he said, "Help me draft a divorce agreement, according to what I say."

The lawyer looked up, his eyes showing obvious surprise.

He didn't dare ask more questions and took notes according to what Simon said.

"Half of all the properties under my name, let her choose which ones herself."

"Also, of the thirty percent shares I currently hold in the Coldridge Group, give her ten percent."

Even more generous than Yosef.

The lawyer was shocked, "Isn't that too much?"

"Just do as I say."

Simon listed several more conditions, continuing, "And other assets..."

His voice was intermittent, as if he'd gone through a tremendous internal struggle.

"That's it."

After the lawyer finished recording, he asked again, "Should I give the agreement to Mrs. Coldridge?"
