Chapter 83

Chapter 83

At this moment in the banquet hall.

No one expected this to happen, and they all looked at each other in bewilderment.

No one dared to say anything more.

Simon still stood beside Edward.

Stephen and Isabella across from them were embarrassed, but they looked at Simon with certainty.

Now that Aurora had run off, they didn't need to talk in front of her. Simon would definitely side with them—that's what they thought.

It had happened so many times before. No matter how much Blair made a fuss, Simon would eventually give in...

As long as they had Blair, their adopted daughter, they held a get-out-of-jail-free card!

Thinking of this, Stephen smiled again. "We're just telling the truth, but Mrs. Coldridge seems even more anxious than us, running out like that. Why isn't Mr. Coldridge going after her?"

When he asked this question, there was some malice behind it.

Because he knew Simon wouldn't go after her—he would stand on their side!

Isabella saw Simon still standing there with no intention of chasing after Aurora, and she beamed with joy. "Sure enough, Mr. Coldridge still favors our Blair..."

As soon as she finished speaking, Simon said, "From now on, all cooperation projects between the company and the Ember Group are suspended."

After Blair had caused a scene last time, Simon had already cut most of their projects.

He thought that would make them understand what he was thinking, but now it seemed that as long as he left them any room, they would think they could push for more!

Hearing this, Stephen froze. "What?"

This wasn't what he had expected!

Simon's expression was firm. "Don't come to me for any projects in the future."

"Just like my wife said, after supporting Blair for so long, I've only raised an ungrateful person. Maybe she doesn't think that way herself, but as her adoptive parents, you're really teaching her badly."

Stephen's confident expression from moments ago cracked bit by bit. "Mr. Coldridge, you didn't say this before..."

"I never promised you anything, and I have no obligation to meet your demands."

After Simon finished, he turned to look at Edward. "After seeing them like this, Mr. Radcliffe probably won't want to have any project dealings with them either, right?"

Edward had been watching coldly from the side, showing disdain for their behavior. "I wouldn't dare cooperate with people who use favors to blackmail others like this."

"Once they latch onto you, not only do you have to pour all your resources into their hands for the rest of your life, but they'll resent you afterward!"

Edward was the host of tonight's banquet. With him saying this, it was like passing a death sentence on them.

Stephen blinked, not expecting that they had come so aggressively today only to end up completely defeated!

He looked at Simon and said, "But we still have Blair. Can you really stop caring about her?"

"What I do depends entirely on my own mood. I don't have a standard for being responsible to anyone."

After saying this, he turned around. "Sorry, I can't stay long either. I need to go after my wife."

Edward nodded slightly, looking at Simon with some approval. "Go quickly. It's so late, and it's hard to get a taxi around here... Hurry and catch up with her."

Simon nodded and left the banquet without looking back.

He had the driver wait while he drove back to look for Aurora.

All along the way, he drove extremely slowly, constantly looking for a familiar figure nearby.

Calls to Aurora kept going unanswered.

But it was hard to get a taxi around here, and based on when Aurora left, she shouldn't have gone far.

Simon drove out for a distance, then simply left the car by the roadside and got out to search on foot.

Finally, he saw a familiar figure on an overpass.

Aurora had taken off her high heels and was walking by the road, holding up her dress.

She seemed very tired, walking slowly step by step. Her feet were rubbed raw and red, looking particularly haggard and pitiful.

But even like this, she seemed even more lost and dejected...

Simon watched Aurora from a moderate distance.

She never noticed his presence.

She walked forward with high heels in one hand and her bag in the other, lost in thought.

Despite being so disheveled, she still maintained her pride, keeping her back very straight.

Watching this woman, Simon's eyes grew hot.

Since they'd met, Aurora had always been such a proud person.

Only in front of him would she soften, showing those sweet and vulnerable sides.

Now the truth that she couldn't have children had been revealed in front of so many people—what must she be feeling?

At the Coldridge family, Aurora could boldly admit it because she had already decided to divorce Simon, yet Yosef still felt sorry for her.

But now, with her wound torn open again in front of everyone, she still had to pretend it was just others spreading rumors. This pretense meant facing her own pain directly...

Simon's heart felt like it was being gripped tightly by an invisible hand, kneaded over and over.

He slowly walked over and called out from a distance, "Aurora."

His voice was nearly hoarse as he spoke her name.

Aurora suddenly stopped, and the moment she turned and saw it was Simon, she turned to walk forward without looking back, but barefoot she couldn't walk fast.

Soon Simon caught up.

Hearing his approaching footsteps, Aurora shouted, "Stay away from me!"

"Why would I do that? You're my wife."

Simon continued walking toward Aurora on his own.

But Aurora cried out sharply, "Can you please not make me hate you more?"

More? Simon frowned. "You mean you already hate me now?"

Aurora didn't answer at all, just kept walking forward.

Simon saw that her toes seemed to be bleeding, and with no other choice, he stepped forward and picked her up.

Aurora's hands beat against his chest. "Don't touch me, I said!"

"How can you walk like this? Not going to work tomorrow? Even if you hate me, you should at least let me take you back first."

At this moment, Simon's words were still firm, but there was a tremor in his voice.

Aurora thought about it—he had a point.

If she walked back like this today, it would definitely affect work tomorrow.

She suddenly became docile, letting Simon carry her all the way back to the car, but no matter what Simon said to her, she wouldn't respond.

Aurora curled up in the back seat, hugging herself into a ball, slowly wiping the dirt from her feet...

Simon watched with heartache and handed her the medical kit. "Let me help you treat it."

"No need."

Aurora resisted all his attempts to get close, as if riding in his car back was already her maximum limit.

Simon didn't dare say more.

He knew Aurora was angry, but with her sulking, he had no way to explain.

Should he say he never indulged the Ember family at all?

She probably wouldn't believe it!
