Chapter 82

Chapter 82

When things have been said to this extent, there's basically no room left to fix anything.

Aurora still stood beside Simon, holding her evening clutch with both hands.

But her shoulders had already started shaking and trembling. Even Simon noticed something was wrong with her emotions. He pulled her shoulder tighter and tried to lean down to whisper something in her ear...

Simon held her close but didn't get a chance to comfort Aurora first. He just said coldly, "Blair is just a student I sponsored. Being able to work at our company after graduation is already a favor to her! It's not like I haven't helped your family either, but you couldn't make it work. You messed up several projects I gave you, and they all ended up with negative returns!"

Since the Ember family insisted on arguing with Simon about this, he might as well make everything clear.

Hearing Simon say this, the other party's expression flickered. "How can you blame us for that? The projects you gave us required..."

"Still making excuses? Any other company could have completed those projects well and gotten a 200% return. Only you people just want to sit back and enjoy the benefits without doing anything."

Simon narrowed his eyes, his gaze precisely landing on Stephen. "Don't forget that when I asked you to adopt Blair, I already gave you a sum of money."

As soon as he said this, the surroundings fell into a brief silence, followed by whispered conversations.

"What's really going on between Mr. Coldridge and the Ember family?"

"I heard the Ember family's adopted daughter went to the Coldridge family a while ago and made a scene, insisting that Aurora can't have children. That's really out of line. Simon is her benefactor..."

"I think it's just like what was said before - that Blair probably wants to get rid of Aurora so she can marry into the Coldridge family herself!"

Amid all the murmuring, Edward also approached them with his wine glass. Seeing Aurora's pale face, he felt sympathy. "What's going on here?"

Stephen saw the host of this party and suddenly got an idea. "Mr. Radcliffe, we've worked together before. I'd like you to judge this fairly."

"Mr. Coldridge did give us some projects before, and we didn't do well with them, but we adopted Blair properly as he asked. He used to treat Blair pretty well, but now he suddenly doesn't care about her at all..."

Isabella chimed in from the side, "Blair can't eat or sleep now, and keeps going to the hospital. She's getting weaker by the day. How can we as parents bear to see this?"

"Besides, Mr. Coldridge said before that he wanted to divorce Aurora..."

Simon abruptly cut her off. "Haven't you caused enough trouble? I never at any time said I wanted to divorce my wife!"

These words carried some emotion and sounded like he was on the verge of exploding.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Aurora suddenly looked up. Her heart warmed when she met Edward's concerned gaze.

She still had her wits about her and knew that in this situation, she could only get a chance to survive by speaking up for Simon...

Besides, Simon hadn't responded to the infertility issue just now, and their family cared about saving face after all!

Thinking this, Aurora steadied herself and spoke in a cold voice, "Where exactly did you hear such nonsense about me not being able to have children?"

"I'm guessing it's because I'm suing to get back the money my husband spent on Blair over the years, so you're anxious and want to get revenge on me!"

Hearing Aurora say this, the onlookers seemed to understand. "So that's what it is!"

"They're really greedy. Getting project resources isn't enough - they even want to keep the money! Who could tolerate such ungrateful people!"

Stephen was thrown off track. "Mrs. Coldridge, please don't say that!"

"We never said anything like that..."

Isabella beside him turned pale. "Actually, she did do that. She asked us for the money from before..."

The two exchanged glances and looked like they were about to argue endlessly. Aurora said calmly, "First of all, it's a fact that Blair went to the Coldridge family and made a scene. Shouldn't I ask for compensation?"

"In front of the entire Coldridge family, she insisted on saying I can't have children. That's nothing but malicious slander, trying to take my place! Too bad Blair failed at driving a wedge between us. Instead, she made my husband realize he raised a complete ingrate... Now that Blair has a job, why can't we sue to get back the money from before?"

Aurora continued with a cold laugh, "Besides, I haven't even officially filed the lawsuit yet, and you're already this anxious."

She gently took Simon's arm, putting on an appearance of a loving couple.

Simon beside her hadn't said anything, clearly agreeing with what she was doing.

At an event with so many industry leaders present, the two of them were a community of shared interests.

Aurora smiled, though her eyes showed some confusion. "Simon and I have occasional small disagreements, but which couple doesn't! I can't stand that he threw out so much money only to end up raising a mistress who can't wait to take my place! I just gave you a warning, and you come right to our faces demanding an explanation?"

As Aurora explained, the onlookers gradually understood what was really going on, and their looks toward the Ember family couple became even more contemptuous.

"Now you've completely angered me. Not only are you spreading rumors everywhere that I can't have children, hurting and insulting me this way, but you're also trying to take our property. So I will sue you. I demand that you return half of the money my husband spent supporting Blair all these years! My husband cares about his reputation and won't bring it up himself, but I absolutely won't let go of the half that belongs to me."

After saying this, Aurora took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, there are people I dislike at this party. I don't want to stay here anymore, so I'll excuse myself first."

She really was planning to sue. As soon as she left the hotel, she called Sophia directly.

"Help me draft a lawsuit. I'm tired. I want to make sure the Ember family can never speak up again this time."

If she didn't make them suffer and bleed a little, they would never know how to respect others!

This time she absolutely wouldn't let it go...

Sophia was startled but agreed first, then asked what had happened.

Learning that the Ember family couple had made another scene at the party, she was also furious. Sophia cursed several times on the phone before saying, "Don't worry, I'll definitely take care of it for you. Don't be anxious about what comes next."

"By the way, where are you now? It sounds like you're not at the party anymore. Do you need me to pick you up?"

Aurora glanced at the dark night outside and shook her head. "No need."

When she hung up the phone, her voice was a bit choked up, but fortunately Sophia was busy with work and didn't notice.
