Chapter 198
Chapter 198
John raised his eyebrows slightly and continued, "Besides, medicine is about life and death. It's not something you can learn just by watching and copying. It requires one hundred percent professionalism plus tons of hands-on experience. So obviously, Miss Watson has both the expertise and the experience. Am I right?"
Jane was speechless.
Why did this man keep pressing her about her identity?
What did her identity or skills have to do with him anyway?
Before she could figure out how to respond, Mr. Smith went on, "Also, Ellen has been working with Smith Corporation for quite a while now, but I've never met Ellen. Instead, Miss Watson handles everything... Why don't you explain to me why that is?"
Three rounds of attacks, each one sharp and precise. Jane had to admit defeat.
But she couldn't let her guilt show. As long as she didn't admit it, what could this man do even if he suspected something?
She put on a confident look: "Oh, so Mr. Smith wants to meet Ellen. You should have said so earlier. I'll help arrange a meeting for you. Is this little thing really worth Mr. Smith's time testing me here?"
John said nothing, still watching her with that mysterious look.
Jane was panicking inside, but kept her cool on the surface. Just as she was thinking about how to escape, suddenly there was a knock on the door.
Then the door opened.
It was Kevin.
Three people followed behind him - Smith Corporation's chief lawyer Mr. Lawson, and Larry and Anna.
"Mr. Smith, this is the equity transfer agreement drafted according to the Watson Family elders' requirements. Please review it." Kevin walked up to John with the document.
John took it but didn't look at it. He handed it directly to Jane: "Take a look and see if there are any problems."
"Thank you."
Jane took it.
The agreement drafted by Smith Corporation was clear and straightforward, aside from some necessary explanations.
Jane quickly looked it over. No problems. She nodded slightly at Mr. Lawson: "Thank you."
"No need to thank me, it's my job."
Mr. Smith had given the order - how could he accept thanks?
Now that the business was done, seeing that John had no other instructions, he quickly left.
Anna watched this back-and-forth between John and Jane with hatred and jealousy, but she had to hold it in and put on a kind and generous act, carrying a thermal container into the hospital room's living area.
"John, I specially made chicken soup for Grandpa. I wonder if Grandpa's condition has improved." Anna walked up to John, asking with a shy expression.
"You should ask the doctor that question." John didn't engage with her.
Anna immediately looked hurt, as if about to cry.
John completely ignored her.
Larry couldn't stand it anymore and gently helped Anna out: "Anna, hurry and take the soup you made for Grandpa to him."
"Yes." Anna was about to go in.
"Wait."
Jane coldly stopped her, but spoke to Kevin: "Kevin, please help me test this soup for poison."
"Yes."
Kevin knew that the young Madam's request meant his boss wouldn't object.
So he stepped forward without hesitation to take Anna's thermal container.
Anna backed away holding the container, looking at Jane with resentful eyes, but her tone was pitiful: "Jane, what do you mean by this? You suspect I poisoned Grandpa's soup?"
"It's not impossible. After all, you guys made my grandpa so angry he ended up in the hospital over those shares. Who knows if this soup is safe?"
Jane said it casually.
Anna was already furious: "Jane, that's going too far. When did I make Grandpa angry enough to go to the hospital over shares? That was Dad and Mom's decision. Could I go against them?
Besides, I know you're Grandpa and Grandma's biological granddaughter and they love you, but I'm their granddaughter too. I've been calling them Grandpa and Grandma for over twenty years. How could I possibly poison Grandpa?"
As she spoke, her eyes were already red, tears pooling in them, ready to fall at any moment, looking utterly pitiful.
In comparison, Jane was cold and emotionally stable, asking flatly: "If there's nothing wrong, what's the harm in testing it? It would clear your name, wouldn't it be perfect?"
Although she knew Anna wouldn't poison the soup so openly, Grandpa was at a critical stage now and shouldn't be eating these greasy foods.
Plus, seeing Anna's pitiful white lotus act made her sick. Might as well provoke her and see if she could keep up the act.
Sure enough, Anna was so angry she wanted to tear Jane apart. This bitch was deliberately making her look bad in front of John, wasn't she?
But no, she had to hold it in. John was right there. She couldn't let Jane provoke her into doing something that would ruin her image.
She immediately put on a hurt expression, her eyes full of tears and grievance, as if she'd suffered some terrible wrong, looking at Larry: "Big brother, you saw everything most clearly. I started making the soup as soon as I got home. I only want Grandpa to get better, I have no evil intentions."
"Yes, yes, of course you don't. The one with evil intentions is someone else." Larry comforted her, then turned to Jane with a disgusted expression: "Jane, you say Anna has evil intentions, but I think the truly evil one is you. Anna has always been devoted to Grandpa and Grandma. But you're blocking her from showing her devotion - do you have some more sinister purpose?"
"Oh?" Jane smiled: "Then please tell me, Larry, what sinister purpose do I have?"
"Don't think I don't know. You just want to show off in front of Grandpa and Grandma, make them think..."
"Larry!"
Before he could finish, John impatiently cut him off. "You'll be held responsible for what you're saying!"
Larry: "..."
Anna: "..."
When Jane was casually speculating and insulting others just now, why didn't he say that?
He was being way too obvious and biased in protecting her.
