Chapter 76 76
Phoebe~~
Seeing the siblings meet once again made me so joyous, even though the lady had yet to recall who her brother was. “You could put her on treatment to see if her memories would be recovered. Take her around to places where you two had made memories, and let's see if it would work out too.”
“Eve?!” Knox mentioned. His voice sounded so broken as though he was holding back from breaking into sobs. He wiped his forehead, gasping as he turned around. “No wonder I didn't find you. Your wolf isn't responding too.”
Eve turned to me, tears already in her eyes, “Do you mean it when you said he's my brother?”
I nodded, “You don't have memories of him or your other family, but the resemblance said it all.”
She shut her eyes, her body went stiff for some time, before she moved closer and wrapped her arms around him. I watched as they both couldn't hold it in but cried like a child, and for whatever reason it was, I felt so happy that they met again.
“What about you trying to see if her wolf is awakened? It will fasten the healing, too.” I said to Knox, amid my tears. “And there's your betas mate whom you don't know about…” he turned around forcefully when he heard that. “Dean had held her captive, as a weapon against Levi, but you have the most loyal beta who didn't betray you to Dean because his mate's life was at stake.”
While I said all that, I felt my heart being shredded into pieces. I could only say that it all happened because of my father, because if he hadn't come after Knox's family at first, no one would have seen him and the ones around him as enemies.
“Tell me, what should I do with Drogo and Vivienne?” Knox asked, holding his sister's hand so tightly while slowly walking up to Levi, who was now with his mate. “I don't want to disobey the lycan princess and stain my hand with blood again, because I fear my curse will return. So what should I do with them?”
I rolled my eyes, trying to come up with ideas, until the only penalty I thought would suit them was stripping them of their wolf power. “If you strip them of their wolf power, then you could either banish them or leave them to stay everlasting in that dungeon. This is because he will ally with Dean if you let him go, but losing his wolf power first will make him useless to Dean.”
Levi bowed to him as he approached, “I think Phoebe is right…” but Knox didn't seem to need his suggestion. He walked towards his mate and rested his palm on her shoulder, and I felt the aura of guilt that was killing him for failing to protect what belonged to his beta.
“I owe you and Levi a very comfortable life, and I will do anything to make it possible,” Knox said to the lady who bowed slightly to him. “If you say so, then I'll do that to them. I'm really tired of this and don't want it to continue. If I could just kill Dean once, then I would be okay…” he paused and turned to his sister. “But I don't want to mess things up again for any of you, especially you, who risked your life lifting my curse.”
My fingers tightened on my dress, and I bowed slightly.
From that day on, he paid so much attention to his sister, gave his beta apartment where he stayed with his mate comfortably, and with servants all around.
I watched from afar how he took his sister around while a priestess from the lycan clan visited frequently for her sister's wolf to be awakened.
Days elapsed, and the lady began receiving treatments too, so I had to hang in there and see if there was a way I could help them. I stayed away from Knox, and he didn't seem to care. Even though it hurt me, I still preferred it that way so he wouldn't feel hurt when I followed my heart.
My wolf believed he wanted to get done with his sister before looking towards us, because we wouldn't need his attention diverted once again, but I wasn't so much interested any longer, and felt so bad each time I saw him and recalled my family.
Soon, her sister began recuperating, recalling their parents, how the fire took place, and how her headservant was the one who pushed her off the fence so she wouldn't die. It was from the fire that she got the scar on her neck, and from how she slammed her head on the floor that was responsible for her amnesia.
She didn't recall who picked her up from the floor when she passed out, but remembered the woman who trained her, claiming she was sold to her.
I pictured how scared the lady was when the fire broke out, how the head servant must have pushed her out so she wouldn't die with them, and how everyone in that household happened not to survive the fire. It was so brutal, and I would never forgive my father for doing that.
As the days passed by, I hated myself for living. So I decided to return to the lycan clan without anyone's awareness. I was going to stay with the lycan princess this time, so Dean won't have the guts to come after me there.
I spent time with Angeline and the slave mistress, showing gratitude for how they took care of me.
And one certain night, when the palace had gone quiet, I sneaked out of the palace.
At that point, I didn't care about my people any longer, because they would surely survive under Knox. I just needed to stay away from the one I offended and find my happiness again.
I ran off to the palace, entered the wood and transformed into my wolf form.
The journey out of the Fearless Keepers Pack was a long one because I didn't want to follow the border. But once I did and entered the nearest remote land, I decided to take a rest under a shield for some time and regain my strength.
Where I lay, I was fast asleep, when I heard the heavy sound of someone falling with a thud. I jolted from the bench, glanced around, and the whole place was in havoc. Everyone was running helter-skelter, and it seemed like a war had broken out.
Instantly, I decided to return to the woods because that could be the safest place as it stood. But the moment I entered the balcony of the building I had been sleeping in, someone covered my mouth with her palm and pulled me deeper into the balcony.
I fought to get away from the person, and my eyes landed on her, the last person I expected to come after me. “Angeline?! What is happening? How did you find me?”
She scoffed and told me, "I'm going to lead you out safely, but we must exchange dresses.”
