Chapter 60 60
Phoebe~~
The humans I came with were dismissed back to the academy, and the princess reached out to the manager as she said. I stayed back, not because of what the lycan prince said, but because the princess needed to be happy during her wedding.
That night, I helped her arrange a lot of things about her wedding, and the kinda meal I was served was one I had missed so much from my father's palace. If she came to know that I was a werewolf princess indeed, what would she begin thinking about me?
I spent that night in her room, and the next day, we began getting ready.
Honestly, I prayed for the ceremony to end so fast so I would return to the academy, because that was where I belonged as it stood. Recalling that I had a task paused because of this, I got almost pissed, but held onto myself.
Once it was time for the princess to step up into the hall, as the tradition said, I walked behind her, making sure that the long royal gown she wore didn't make her trip, even though she walked gently. Most times, she glanced back at me and smiled, and that alone made me feel so good that I was the reason someone finally smiled.
I stayed behind until the ritual was done with her mate, the lycan prince of the neighbouring clan, then I thought it was time for me to leave. I had already exited the palace building when I heard the princess calling me out.
Deep down, I was scared that I had made a mistake in her room and turned forcefully, my heart already in my throat. “My princess, is everything okay?”
I wasn't expecting that smile from her, and she took my hand into hers. “My brother says you should stay behind because she needs to talk to you. But that's not the main thing, I just want you to follow me to my mate's clan and come over every weekend after academy.”
Quickly, I took my palms away from hers, making a long face as I stepped backwards. I bowed respectfully and refused instantly, “I apologise, but it won't work out that way.”
“Phoebe,” she mentioned, and I regretted sharing my name with her. “Just during the weekend. You aren't going to work, but just live comfortably and be my friend. I will have the servants prepare a room for you, and a driver assigned to bring you home on weekends, then take you back to.”
I still shook my head, "I'm very comfortable staying in the academy with my fellow students. Their meal is okay, and the accommodations are too. I don't want any situation that would make them see me as someone different from them, so please forgive me, because I won't accept this.”
“Then, what about going out on a date with me? I'm not distracting your academy,” came the prince's voice, and I now wished to see that assistant manager for picking me up among the others to deliver their package.
If at all any of the humans showed up, would they be doing this?
I knew that for some people, it was an opportunity for them. But you see, staying in the academy was very okay for me, because I didn't need the world to know about me.
“My prince,” I turned to him and bowed too. “Unfortunately, I'm gamophobic.”
“Is that a joke or what? How could a young, gorgeous werewolf like you be unto that? My brother is sweet and…
“And I'm not even his mate,” I added, because one thing was sure: he would dump me once he found his mate.
The princess shut her lips, then turned to her brother. “Can you just go find your mate? I have to deal with mine alone.”
“I also rejected yours, and I'm not changing my mind, princess,” I uttered, bowed to them both and began leaving. I felt as though my chest would burst, but then I exhaled heavily the moment I left through the palace gate.
Truly, they would be stunned that I turned them down like that, but there was nothing new about them. My father was wealthy and gave me a better life, so I'd seen it all and called it vanity. I aimed to survive, make a name for myself when it was time, and save the souls waiting for me. Not falling in love with some man who would be no different from Knox and Dean.
I trekked and stood at the nearest bus stop, waiting for a taxi that would drive me back, when a car drove towards me and stopped. Then I recalled that the princess had assured me that her driver would take me back, and then introduced the man to me afterwards.
When the glass rolled down, I saw that it was the driver.
“The Lycan princess ordered that I take you home,” he said to me, and I didn't hesitate to hop into the car. “I wonder why you rejected their offer. At least, the princess who loved you as a friend should have been given a chance. She's been lonely for some time, because she cut ties with her friends when she found out that they talked ill of her to her first mate, and one of them was even seeing the man. Her now husband is her second-chance mate.”
I quietly looked out through the window because I had nothing to say. If she knew what I passed through, she would pity me most.
When the car finally stopped, and I was about to alight, I sighted a man dressed in black throughout, with a black hoodie that crossed his knees. He glanced towards the car, and upon seeing his face, my eyes widened in shock, and I quickly lowered my face.
“Are you okay?” the driver asked, but I ignored him.
After I guessed the car must have left, I raised my face and nodded to the driver. “I just recalled something now, and I'm not sure if I will meet up with it tonight.”
He nodded, “Ahh, I see. I hope you meet up,” he responded, and I hurriedly got down from the car.
I quickly entered the academy gate, then leaned on the wall. I didn't realise that the security personnel were all staring at me, while I was trying to think my life through.
How come I saw Alpha Dean just now? It couldn't be. Maybe because I wasn't hoping to ever meet him again.
This is the lycan clan, very far from his pack. Why could he be here and even dressed like an assassin? He was an alpha king and should be dressed decently like one.
Oh no! I was hallucinating too much these days. It could have been better if it were even Knox, so I would rush to him and confirm if it was true or not. But alpha Dean? That man mustn't find me.
If he were in this clan, then I needed to be very careful not to fall into his trap, or I would be doomed.
