Chapter 36 36
Vivienne~~
It hurt so much watching those two step out of the throne room holding hands and chatting like they weren't rivals. Was it my presence that made them begin coming together again? As much as I knew before coming here, both do not stand each other and do not even cross paths.
But now? They seem not to be able to be without each other, and that's so annoying.
I couldn't stand the sight of them, but left for my room. Maybe I should do better so I could steal Knox's heart. He had ordered her to stop serving me, and that was so suspicious of him. That lady was a slave and is to serve everyone in this palace, especially since she's a rival to this whole pack.
That afternoon, I decided to talk to Knox privately. I needed to make him understand certain things and also hear his plans, including his reasons for making such a declaration in the throne room.
When my headservant announced that he was back, I left my room to go meet him. I stood at the doorpost, about to ring the doorbell, when he bumped out, wearing a shocking look to see me standing before him. I couldn't even peep into his room to see how it was, as it locked up the moment he stepped out. “Alpha!” I bowed to him.
He gave me a long look and asked, “Is there a problem?”
I puckered my lips and nodded, “Yes, I'd like to speak to you privately.”
He glanced backwards and shrugged his shoulders, “Let's talk in the car.”
I trailed behind him, and we walked out of the palace building and to his car. Then I began even before he glanced at me. “Your majesty, I really do not understand what happened a few hours ago. Why are you making it look like I am not seen in the palace when we should be getting ready for my coronation and our wedding ritual?”
He knitted his brows and placed his head on the seat's headrest. “Did you forget that being my luna depends on your efforts? Or did your father not tell you?”
I sighed. He really did, but I didn't think it was too serious like this.
He didn't ever love me a bit, or this wouldn't have been a hassle.
“If you're able to make me fall for you, then so be it. You're not gonna stop my mate from loving me, and as jealous as she is, she won't sit back. To avoid any of you thinking that I'm taking sides, I chose not to have her serve you again. Both of you should work hard, and if in the next five months you do not succeed, then you're leaving the palace,” he explained slowly, and I nodded.
Still, I thought he was taking the side of that female so much or he wouldn't stop her from serving me. I didn't want to bring it up, so he wouldn't think I was so desperate, even though I was.
“Anyways, I just hope you stay away from her as you avoid me too. Even though she's your mate, this is a task that we should work hard for, so she needs to work like me.”
Knox turned and gave me a cold look. He scoffed and unbuckled the seatbelt he was putting on. “I should stay away from my mate? Would you have done that if you were in my shoes?”
“She’s your rival….”
“Her family was, and not her!” he snapped at me, and I bit my lower lip.
“Besides, I rejected my mate because of you,” I added, and his expression darkened.
After a long silence, he snarled at me, “I never told you to do so. Since you even had a mate, why were you all over me? Only if my mate wants you to have me, then you win.”
Seriously? So if that lady doesn't stop loving him, or stays away from him, he wouldn't give me a chance? Then it also meant that if that slave princess awakened the demon in him by turning against him or misbehaving in such a way he couldn't tolerate, then he would give me a chance.
What if I killed her too? He would also come crawling to me.
“And, don't tell me to stay away from my mate, because if I did, I wouldn't have known that you set her up and have your whatever that you hired push her into the river. If I didn't go after her, she would be dead like you wanted….and if you ever make me recall this again, you wouldn't love my action.”
My blood stilled. I couldn't believe my ears.
So he already knew that I did it? Then I wasn't safe.
I could be exiled with starvation if I were to be prosecuted, and now he has something to use against me.
My chest became so thick, and the best I could do was to alight from his car and get back to my room. At this point, I needed to be so careful not to piss him off again, or I would lose everything. He would also keep an eye on me, and that could be why he stopped her from serving me.
Back in my room, I was so restless. My headservant noticed how I paced about the room and asked what was wrong, and I wasn't in the mood to hide my problems, so I told her everything.
“What if we transferred the crime to the mistress? You could speak to the alpha king again tonight and tell him how the mistress visited you, explaining how she doesn't like that a female rival was getting close to the alpha king, so she set her up, and you were scared of revealing it.”
I thought about that idea, and in the end, it made so much sense.
If the mistress took the blame, Knox would have nothing against me any longer, and the stupid mistress who preferred a rival for their alpha king would rot in exile.
That night, when I was sure that Knox was back, I decided to go meet him again, hoping that he would give me a little time.
Along the hallway, Phoebe stepped out of her room, dressed like a stripper, and wore that serious expression. The lady didn't even behave as if she saw me; I felt unseen, and for some reason, hated her audacity.
How did Knox still get obsessed with her despite knowing that she was sharing her body with other men? Was he just trying to kick me out, because I was sure that he made her the stripper that she was, like?
Or, doesn't their wolf taunt them for cheating?
It didn't make sense, but that wasn't my issue at that moment.
I reached his corridor and rang the doorbell, then waited for his response, but got none. I stood here for minutes, ringing the bell consistently and hoping that he answered, because I was so sure that he was in there.
Instead, his beta showed up and bowed to me. “Could you tell Alpha that I need to have some words with him?”
Levi shook his head even before I finished speaking, “His majesty doesn't want to see anyone, including you.”
“What?”
He bowed, walked out of the room, and the door locked up. Then he began leaving.
I stood there, my lips dropped open, unsure whether to start yelling at Knox or run after the beta to help speak to Knox.
Why wouldn't he want to speak to me? If I don't tell him this, I wouldn't be able to clear my name.
