Chapter 10 10
Phoebe~~
Was it my hallucination? I had just inhaled Knox’s scent, but then it slowly dissipated.
It couldn't be that he came to check if I was really working, right? He wouldn't have the time to do that.
I turned back to the lady, Angeline, who was helping me with my portion of work. “Let's resume. I guess it isn't him.”
She chuckled, and we began again. She showed me how to work with the hoe, and although my waist ached, it was still fun doing it together with others who told stories that kept us going.
Since the others saw Angeline with me, they suddenly became cheerful, and I didn't hesitate to reciprocate their attention towards me. I would have felt bad if they mocked me that I was an alpha princess who ended up with slaves, but they saw me like I was equal to them and not different.
When I ended my task with Angeline, we sat in a secluded corner, eating the cherry she had gotten for us. That was when I recalled asking her again how and why she was in the slave yard instead of the club.
“The truth is that I don't belong to this pack,” she said to me and my cherry stuck to my lips. I couldn't believe my ears, because this pack does not accept outsiders. “They found out and put me here.”
It finally made sense. They caught her and brought her here.
“I see!” I responded and picked up another cherry. “So, how long will you stay here? Won't they let you return to your pack? You didn't mean harm, right?”
She seemed to find my questions funny, so she giggled at me. “Who said I'm not harmful? I don't even want to return to my pack. It's better here than being a dog for some people.”
One other statement that got me confused…
“What do you mean by being a dog? What's the name of your real pack? Fearless keepers pack sees every outsider as a threat; at least I know that." I said to her, dropping the cherry I had taken.
Seeing how I stared at her and the fact I wasn't interested in the cherry, she dropped hers as well and crouched her knees towards her chest. “I am a spy from the Crescent Moon Pack, and the night you left, which three men from your pack caused a commotion in the club, I was caught as well.” She spared me a glance and a tiny smile curled on her lips. “The alpha king of my pack sent me here as a spy. He's been using me as his sex object for seven years now, and when I told him that I was tired, he imprisoned me.”
A lump formed in my throat.
I wasn't supposed to get pissed by a mere story, but getting rid of the real me was something impossible to do.
“He picked me out amongst my fellow rogues and registered me in his pack, only because he craved my curves and wanted to claim me all the time, regardless that he had his luna and fated mate. I thought it was better than being killed, because I swore to live after witnessing my parents being attacked by a cougar and dying. I joined the rogues for protection since I was an orphan who was trained in the woods and had no home, so I accepted to be his sex toy, but didn't know he had no intention to free me one day.”
She paused and bit her lower lip.
I could feel the pain that swelled in her chest.
“So, when I refused to keep playing the role, he imprisoned me. And when he needed a spy, he sent me away, knowing that I would die if things went wrong. I didn't even expect to be brought here, so it's far better for me since we just work and even eat twice daily.”
A smile flashed across her face, and I think I loved that.
Now, hearing her story made me understand that I had hope, because people had suffered a lot more than me. In fact, this was my first suffering all through my life, so I would surely pull through it.
I took her hands into mine, “But, what mission were you sent to do?”
She rolled her eyes, maybe pondering whether to tell me or not, and then she spilt it. “I only send back information about anything Alpha Knox is up to. That way, the Crescent Moon Pack and its members won't be attacked. But the alpha there had an aim: to bring down Alpha Knox or you.”
What?
I took a deep swallow, and my eyes grew wide. “What do you mean? Do I know him?”
“You don't know, I've been stalling time for Alpha Knox, because he isn't as bad as they say,” she added and laughed at my flushed face. “This is how it is.” She turned carefully and faced me. “I will tell you why the alpha of the other pack wants him dead.”
Doesn't this alpha even have a name?
“Do you recall being attacked on the night you escaped from the club?” she asked, and I nodded. “I gave them info that you left, and the goal was to kill you.”
But why? Wasn't Knox my only problem?
“Alpha Knox is cursed by a priestess. He would go feral if he fell for his mate, and would die if he marked her. But even if he doesn't meet his mate, he will always be weak and powerless every full moon. So the plan has been to kill him at that time, but the other alpha always loses, because Alpha Knox has strong and well-trained men that protect him every full moon…and this alpha is still trying, while being supported by the other alphas, including your dead father.”
“Now that he killed your father with a reason that I don't know and took you in, other alphas are scared that you wouldn't hate him, but fall for him. And once you do and find out about his curse, you will find the divine relic that will lift this curse so your mate will be free…because you're the only one who has the divine power to find the relic. This is why they want you dead, so you don't spoil their plans, since Alpha Knox wouldn't risk falling for you or marking you. When they get rid of you, they will keep trying every full moon until they succeed.”
We both took a deep breath at a time, and I stood to stretch my limbs.
This was one story I didn't know existed.
Could it be that Knox was going to kill all the other alphas like he killed my father?
I seriously wanted him dead.
“All through your years of dating him, didn't you notice he was losing it?” Angeline pulled my attention back to him.
That being said, I recalled what happened last night.
It was my first time seeing him that way, and I bet it was the sign of him going feral since he once loved me. That could be why he didn't mark me, too, no matter how I told him to, because his life was on the line.
I looked down at Angeline and simply shook my head. She was a spy, and so I wouldn't trust her that much.
She stood up too and stood opposite me. “I know you want to avenge your family, right?”
I nodded. It was my priority.
“Then make him fall for you,” she said and closed the distance between us. “Those alphas will never succeed in killing him during the full moon, nor can they harm him when he's very okay like now. So the only way to have him dead is to make him fall for you. If he does, then he will start going feral. If you spellbind his wolf and have him mark you, then he dies. And once he does, you will take your people away when his people are still grieving his death.”
I looked Angeline in the eyes, with lots of questions roaming in my head, “So, how do I make him fall for me again? I don't want to waste my divine power to find a relic for someone who made me homeless. He hates me so much right now, and I want him dead.”
Even though I recalled her mentioning that Knox wasn't as bad as they talked, which was why she's been stalling for time for him. But changing her mind to have him dead through me…
Was it because of what he did to my family? Was she pitying me?
There was this innocent smile that stretched her lips apart. Since she was an omega, I tried to read her mind, and I guessed it was true.
She wants to help me get revenge on Knox, whom she's stalled time for all these years, and after I succeed, she will join my pack.
One difficult thing to do was to make someone I hate fall for me, so I really needed help at that moment. We hated each other, but I needed to play this game and win.
The moment her lips moved, I heard someone call me out, a male.
I turned, and it happened to be beta Levi.
I turned to Angeline and said, "I'll be back.”
She nodded, and I left, heading to meet the man. I thought he was here to get my help like we agreed, but not that.
“Alpha is enraged by the drinks you took, and there's no reason he's accepting. He's threatening to sack me, and I don't want that, so I'm going to spill the truth,” he said to me in a whisper.
I rolled my eyes, pouting.
If he knew that I took those drinks, he wouldn't spare me. So what would I do? I will die of guilt if the innocent man is sacked because of me, and I still need to take more and bribe the other warriors.
I kept biting my finger, thinking so hard.
