CHAPTER 40

A month passed quickly, a bad news came to Diwata.

Lee Amielles seems to be free in jail. Her ex-husband.

"What the fuck? The case we imposed on that animal is so heavy right? Why he released from prison?" irritated Hale on the other line.

A week ago, Lee was released because he got bail. He said he paid a high -ranking man so he was still able to be free from jail.

"This is unbelievable! That idiot needs to be sent back to jail. I'm not going to let him get close with Diwata again now that he's free," said Hale on the other line. She estimated that it was Damon who was talking to him.

Maybe Hale hadn't noticed yet that she was behind him. She gently touched him to the shoulder. Shocked, he turned to her, his eyes are depressed.

"I'm sorry.." he said sadly to her.

Yes she is also saddened by what happened but she can't do anything if Lee is finally released. Hale didn't like that and she knew he did everything just to help her, her ex husband was just really slippery. She didn’t know why it still had so many connections.

"Relax Hale. Don't be mad."

She hugged and squeezed his hand. She felt he rub her hair.

"Do not worry. I'll still work out a way to get him back in jail," Hale told her. She just nodded here.

"Don't think of him Hale. Everythings gonna be okay," she said and looked up at him. She saw him let out a deep sigh.

"I just can't believe that this is happening. But I'll be okay," he replied weakly to her.

He kissed her forehead and she just closed her eyes because of that.

"Anyway, I need to go to the office now. Is it okay to you to stay here first?" Hale asked her.

"Of course," she replied quickly. There is no problem if she left here alone. She has another plan to do today, it's a good thing that Hale will leave just in time. She knew that if she told him what she was going to do today, he would certainly not allow it.

She intends to go to their mansion. She mentioned to Hale that Lee's mother was staying there and Hale want it to leave there but she felt sorry for the old woman. Maybe it's because she has no other place to live and Lee was imprisoned then, even though she knew she can't accept her as Lee's wife before, she still felt sorry for the old woman. Even though she hurt her so much, she still couldn't get too angry with Lee's mother. But now that her son is free, maybe it can leave the house owned by her parents.

When Hale got dressed he first kissed her on the cheek.

"I'll be back before lunch. Let's eat together okay? Don't cook, I'll just buy the food," Hale told her. She nodded here. He noticed that she seemed quiet.

"Hey, what's wrong baby?" he asked her.

"H-huh? N-nothing. Hehe, I'll wait for you later," she replied to Hale.

He smiled when he saw her smile. It never asked again. It looks like it really has something important to do because it's in a hurry.

"Alright. I gotta go."

She just followed Hale's gaze as he walked out the door.

She first spent fifteen minutes before she decided to leave the house. She hasn't changed her clothes yet. She was wearing only simple pajamas and a t-shirt.

She immediately drove Mallows and went straight to their mansion.

She only had a short trip and when she got there the surroundings were still beautiful. Lee's mother seems to take care of their place. The surrounding vegetation is beautiful.

She missed this place. Here she intends to live when she has her own children then.

She went straight to the mansion and immediately knocked there. She saw Lee's sister peeking out the window but she also left immediately when she saw her coming. Moments later the door opened and Lee's mother exposed herself to her.

Her face looked dull but the sting was still there.

"What are you doing here?" she asked her.

"I'm visiting the house I own," she replied angrily. Lee's mother swallowed and sighed.

"You're Lee's wife so we still have a right to this house. If you're planning to evict us we won't leave," Lee's mother told her.

"Maybe you forgot that your son and I are separated and our marriage is invalid, and you may also forget that this property still belongs to my parents. "

Lee's mother's eyes widened.

"Don't you really have a conscience? We have a lot of problems—"

"Mom, Lee is vomiting again!"

Lee's mother stopped speaking when Lee's sister suddenly spoke. She was also stunned.

Lee's mother immediately turned around and hurriedly climbed into one of the rooms upstairs.

Is Lee here?

She followed upstairs and Lee's sister couldn't stop her.

There she saw Lee, he look so thin and his yellowing eyes were deepening. He's vomiting.

Lee was so far away from the Lee she had known before.

What happened to Lee?

Weakly he looked up at her. Lee's mother was unable to look at her.

"D-di-wa-ta..." he stammered and said with difficulty.

"W-what happened to you?" she said in shock. He would have spoken but it vomited again.

"She has liver cancer," Lee's mother replied. She was still not looking directly into her eyes. She was shocked and could not believe it.

Liver cancer?

"He has only few days to live. The doctor said it was only 1 month," Lee's mother added.

She suddenly felt pity for her ex husband. She had no idea that Lee would go through all this.

"W-when else?" he asked the lady.

"When he was in jail he started to lose weight and lose his appetite."

She covered her mouth. He was released in jail but this is his condition now.

"Where was the woman he gave birth to then? Where is his child?" she asked.

"Lee is not the father of the child. Beatriz cheated on us and just settled down with another man," said Lee's mother.

"M-mom, tell D-diwata the t-truth," Lee said in a hard voice.

She could not understand what Lee meant. Lee's mother, on the other hand, closes her eyes tightly and only shakes one after another.

"I-I'm tired Mom, it's time. Please, tell her..." Lee said and vomited again.

The lady rubbed Lee's back, a few minutes later, Lee was vomiting again and his mouth was shaking. The lady confronted her. There she looked her in the eyes at the same time as tears fell in her eyes.

She was nervous. What's going on?

"W-why are you crying?" she asked.

Lee's mother nodded and then looked at her again.

"Diwata, I know there is no forgiveness for whatever I tell you today, but maybe this is what is called karma why this is happening in our family..."

The lady is crying, she could not understand what it meant.

"W-what do you mean?" she asked confused.

Lee's mother still seemed hesitant but then she spoke again.

"Your parents didn't really have an accident, Diwata, we are the reason they died. The car they were riding in had no brakes and we planned that because we were dazzled by the treasure we could grab when they disappeared. Because we think you are easy to fool, that you are stupid, and that you are weak -minded. We killed your parents Diwata and I am ready to suffer that. Forgive me Diwata. Forgive me!" the old woman said while crying.

It was as if cold water had been poured on her, not knowing what to say. It was as if she had been nailed to her feet.

Are they the reason why her parents died?

Tears welled up in her eyes, as if her heart was breaking because of the pain she was feeling now. She couldn't quite imagine that the person she loved back then was one of the reasons why her parents gone.

She couldn’t accept it any more and her parents loved Lee too. The pain of what she found out now, there is nothing as painful!

"Maybe it's karma that's happening to us. My conscience can't hide anymore. We have to suffer all that Diwata but I only ask you one thing... "

She was dumbfounded as Lee's mother held her hand.

"My only request to you is don't put me in jail first. Have mercy Diwata, let me serve my son first for the rest of his days here on earth. Please Diwata, I beg you," Lee's mother cried and knelt down before her.

"Y-you killed my parents ..." she cried.

It was as if she was being stabbed repeatedly and she had no choice but to feel the pain.

How did Lee do that to her?

"But they loved you! They accepted you! They trusted you, why did you kill them?! Why did you do that to them?!" blurred with tears she said.

"W-we're dazzled by the money. Forgive us Diwata, I'm so sorry..." Lee's mother bowed as she knelt on the floor.

She seemed to run out of breath because of so much resentment. Her chest was very heavy and what happened next was that she was weakening and seemed to fall, all of a sudden her vision darkened and she lost consciousness.
