Chapter 182 Here It Comes

Chapter 182 Here It Comes
Maureen's POV

My mind was beating so fast as we approached the council. I was finally facing the fact that I would be sitting in the citadel soon. It had been a hectic year. I was just a simple girl who took things the way they came. I never envisaged that I had anything to offer wolves all over.

'Are you okay? I can hear your heartbeat from here,' Lance said, moving closer to me.

'I am fine Lance. The reality of the fact that I will be sitting in the citadel is just dawning on me,' I said looking at him.

Lance smiled brightly at me before saying, 'I am actually nervous about it. The more real it becomes, the more surreal it feels.'

'I just hope this is the last hurdle before this is all over,' I said sighing.

'It will be the last major hurdle but it can't be the last. There are going to be small hurdles on the way but we will overcome them all like others. Let's get you seated in the citadel golden wolf,' Lance said winking playfully as the car came to a stop.

We agreed to stop the car some miles away from the council's gate and hike the rest of the way. It was better if we walked the rest of the way because we didn't know what plans they had waiting for us.

Three golden wolf soldiers approached me and Lance as we had earlier discussed. They were going to precede us in case they had archers waiting for us in the trees.

Lucia, Dawn, Rocha, and Torrent were standing at the rear with the waiters. We couldn't risk anyone getting hit.

The Alpha and Dad had insisted on coming with us, but I had insisted that they stay behind and take care of High Moon. We didn't want to risk leaving High Moon vulnerable. If the fake soldiers show up, they know exactly what to do.

As we had predicted, there were archers in the trees. One fell face down and unconscious as we approached the area. I knew Dominus was the one who disarmed him and made him unconscious.

Immediately, the rest of the archers realized that one of them was down, and they started shooting arrows at us. The golden wolf soldiers picked off the arrows as well as they could. Suddenly, there was a great wind blowing the trees so hard that the archers started falling off the trees. Some broke their necks in the process, but those who didn't break their necks were taken care of by the golden wolf soldiers.

I looked back and gave Rocha a thumbs up. I had not thought of the possibility of blowing them off the trees but he did when it was most necessary. I guess that was why we are called a team.

After taking care of the archers we proceeded quietly. The only sounds that could be heard were our footsteps against leaves.

When we finally broke into the open and were facing the gates of the council, it was as if we were standing in front of an exaggerated war scene.

The cowards even gave guns to their fake soldiers. I was one hundred percent sure that the guns had silver bullets in them. They were rich and influential so getting silver bullets would be the least of their worries.

'Please get hold of the guns immediately we get rid of their fake soldiers. There is no crime in using their weapons against them,' I said into my link with the golden wolf soldiers.

'How do we proceed?' Lance asked.

'Isn't it so funny how they just stand there and stare at potential dangers until someone tells them to attack?' Dominus said just as a flash went above the fake soldiers' heads.

I knew it was the signal to tell those inside that there were intruders outside. There was one of them that was pretending to be a part of the fake soldiers. He must have been placed there to send the signal. What a joke!

The gate of the council opened halfway, and the Luna of Rolling Hill, accompanied by another female and two elders from the council, stepped outside.

'Who is the other female?' I asked.

'That is the Luna of the former president's pack' Dominus answered.

'I see. Birds of a feather,' I said snorting.

'You might want to know this: your hair and your eyes have been shining brightly since we got out of the car,' Lance said.

I could even feel strength warming my inside as we stood there. Anger was playing a major role as I looked at the females before me with pure disdain.

'You can as well go back now, golden wolf because there is no way that you are entering into the council not to talk of sitting in the citadel,' the Luna of Rolling Hills said, her voice loud and audible.

'It is good to see that you have a baritone voice. So I will also be assuming you are male in every essence. Why didn't you tell people that you had the two organs?' I sneered.

'How dare you talk to me like that, you nonentity?' The Luna of Rolling Hill asked in great anger.

Good! I wanted to get under her skin and it was obviously working. I wanted her to step closer so that by the time the rain started, she wouldn't be able to run back inside. I wanted her to see the way their fake soldiers would fade into nothingness. It would be quite demoralizing for her. I smiled wickedly.

I walked to the back of our train and whispered in Rocha's ears, 'When their soldiers attack, It can't rain yet. I want as many as possible of them lured back outside the gate before their destruction,' Rocha nodded in understanding, and I went back to where I was standing.

'Lock the gate on them after they come outside. I want that blabbing fool in the mud half-naked before the gate is reopened,' I whispered to Dominus, and he nodded his understanding as well.

'We are ready to meet you halfway if you will accede to our proposal,' the other female standing with the Luna of Rolling Hills said.

'Let's have it,' I said.

'You are going to make a blood covenant with us that you will become our ally. You will do what we want and in return, we will give you the citadel and the entire kingdom,' she said.

'I should have known that nothing good will come out of the mouth of a wicked Luna like you. You are indeed a disgrace to every Luna, dead or alive,' I said, gritting my teeth. What audacity!

'You sealed your fate and that of your minions then,' the Luna of Rolling Hills said and then shouted that the fake soldiers should attack us.

Without wasting time, they attacked us, but when the Luna of Rolling Hills saw that the golden wolf soldiers were fighting them off easily, she asked them to shoot.

Before they could lift the guns, it started raining and they melted into nothingness as the guns dropped heavily on the floor.

The Luna of Rolling Hills and the others with her realized what was happening and quickly turned around to run back into the council but the gate closed on their faces.

I smiled wickedly as I approached them. Four golden wolf soldiers got hold of them and held them to the floor.

'I want her in the mud,' I said to the golden wolf soldier holding the Luna of Rolling Hills. He nodded and pulled her to the side where the rain had formed a ditch then threw her in the mud and held her down.

When I was satisfied with how dirty she looked, I walked to her and asked the soldier to step back. She sprang up and tried to grab me by the hair, but as her hand made contact with my hair, she started shaking as if she had touched a live electric wire. She screamed in pain and fell back into the ditch.

I was surprised at the reaction but I didn't let it reflect on my face. Besides no one had touched my hair recently except Lance.

She started moving on her back away from me but I followed her instead of backing away. She started crying and apologizing profusely.

'Your pleas are nothing but vanity in my ears. I know you want to beg but I am not the one you will beg. I will make you grovel in front of every girl you have humiliated and robbed of their childhood,' I said to her and then turned back to the soldier holding her down, 'Get hold of her and bring her inside.'

I turned around, gave Rocha a nod and the rain stopped. Grandma Gina and the rest of the waiters stepped out of the tree. Rocha had made sure that the rain was only falling at the front to make sure the waiters were kept dry.

We proceeded into the council, but just as we were about to enter the council's main hall, a gunshot rang off, and Lance was hit in the arm. Asher ran to his side and held him before he could hit the floor. His groan of pain made me see red. When I raised my head, I saw the former president approaching us with a gun in his hands.

'If everything couldn't stop you, this will,' he said looking so angry.

'Shoot, You coward. Shoot me,' I screamed at him in great anger. How dare he shoot at my mate. He knew who Lance was and intentionally targeted him.

I screamed again for him to shoot, but he suddenly froze, dropped the gun, and held his hands to his ears as if something was interfering with his hearing.

I shouted at him to shoot again, I was beyond livid. He shouted out in pain as he slumped on the floor with blood pouring out of his ears and nose. He started crawling away from me, mumbling nonsense as I advanced on him.

'Stop, Your Majesty. He must pay for his crimes,' Grandma Gina said and I stopped then turned my back on him to face the waiters. They had surrounded me.

'Where is Lance?' I asked worriedly.

'I am fine,' Lance groaned holding his injured arm. I sighed in relief.

'Before you can do anything, we must first proceed to the citadel and enthrone you' the leader of the waiters said.

I nodded and sighed. Here comes the future!
