Chapter 181: We Move
Ian's POV
I stood rooted to the spot as my wolf growled 'Mate,' at the female kneeling in front of Maureen. Was I finally getting help?
I had suddenly felt energized when the noise in the corridor started. After Maureen and Lance left to see what was going on, I felt a sudden overwhelming feeling to stand up and go with them.
At first, I felt unsure of my move but I knew that the only way it was happening was if my wolf was awake from his deep slumber.
The most beautiful smell I have ever been privileged to perceive hit my nose as I got closer to the door, limping. And when my eyes fell on the female, I had never seen a sight more beautiful.
The female stood up from where she was in front of Maureen and walked towards me with her eyes alternating between colours. I knew it was her wolf trying to get on the surface.
'So the seer was right,' she said as she came to stand before me.
'What seer?' I asked weakly. I lost a lot of blood.
'She is a friend but she has the sight. She told me that I would not find my mate until I met the golden wolf. She was right,' the female said smiling happily.
Her expression suddenly changed when she realized that I was pale and weak. She quickly rushed to help me stand right, but she screamed in agony as one of her hands made a sound like bones aligning, and she fell.
I panicked and almost fell but Lance was by my side to help me remain standing. Lance started leading me back into the room despite my protest.
'I need to get to her, Lance; she is in pain,' I said, trying to protest against Lance leading me away from her, but I could only manage a weak wiggling.
'I understand what you are going through, Ian, but you need to take things easy. The doctor will get to your mate in a jiffy so you need to relax,' Lance said as he helped me lie back in bed.
'I already asked one of the soldiers to get the doctor. I will get Grandma Gina. Stay with him,' Maureen said but she didn't wait to get an answer from Lance before dashing out of the room.
When Maureen returned, she came back with an elderly-looking male and Grandma Gina. I knew instantly that the male was no ordinary person. The aura he was projecting was strong.
'I heard you found your mate, Ian,' Grandma Gina said, smiling at me.
'I guess I am not dying yet then,' I said to her trying to smile at her without my pains impeding it.
'Not yet, Ian. You aren't dying yet,' Grandma Gina said.
'When is he performing the mate blood ritual?' The elderly man asked and Grandma Gina quickly explained my predicament to him.
'Can it be done?' I asked as I saw him looking at me with a deep frown.
'Of course, it can be done. Looking at you closely now, I can see that you have lived longer than all of us in this room. When this mate blood ritual is done, you will start aging normally according to the years of your mate,' the male said.
'Does that affect me in any way?' I asked. I wanted to know what I was getting myself involved with.
'No. The only effect it will have is that you start aging normally,' he said.
'Then do it,' I said.
'Where is his mate?' Grandma Gina asked.
'The doctor is attending to her. She had a fractured hand and refused to allow anyone to correct it so that she could heal. She insisted on seeing me first,' Maureen answered.
'It will be better if we get another bed in here for his mate,' Grandma Gina said.
'Why?' Maureen asked.
'After we perform the ritual, the first two to three hours are important. They both need to be together.
'I see. I was thinking for a second there that you thought she might be weak from her earlier twisted hand,' Lance said.
I winced at the level of pain she must have endured to stand her ground about seeing Maureen. I smiled at the idea that she might be a stubborn one.
'I hope you are not smiling because you are in love with the idea that your mate might be stubborn,' Lance said raising a brow at me.
'What if I am,' I asked him sarcastically.
'Then I will say you should smile very well because, my dear friend, you are soon going to see the disadvantages in having a stubborn mate,' Lance said, then excused himself and went out of the room.
I only shrugged at what he said. We patiently waited for Lance. I was feeling sleepy but I fought against it. I was determined to be awake through the whole thing.
First, another bed similar to mine was wheeled into the room and placed beside my bed. Then Lance came in with the doctor and my mate. She looked so angelic.
As she drew closer, I realized the underlying smell of her being a rogue. Her sweet scent was all I perceived earlier. She cast me a sideways glance that was a mixture of happiness and worry.
'What is wrong with him?' She asked as she was made to sit on the bed that was just brought in. At that point, the doctor excused himself and closed the door behind him.
'What is your name dear?' Grandma Gina asked smiling softly at her. She smiled back immediately without holding back. Her smile was like sunshine to my dark world.
'My name is Leila,' she answered softly.
'Do you know the original pack you are from Leila?' Grandma Gina asked.
'No. I was born a rogue, and I have been drifting around for a long time to remember anything I might have learned from my parents,' Leila said.
I wanted to ask if her parents were still alive, and if they were, I wanted to know where they were, but that was not the time.
Grandma Gina explained to Leila what was happening and what needed to be done to save my life. Leila immediately stood up from the bed, pulled out a knife from her shoe, and was about to cut herself on the wrist, but she was stopped by Lance.
'Slow down,' Lance said to her holding her hand that had the knife.
Grandma Gina and the elderly man who Maureen had introduced to me as the leader of the waiters while we waited for Lance to return with my mate, stepped closer to me and asked my mate to move closer.
The leader of the waiters gently raised my cloth where the wound was and removed the bandage on it. I winced and so did Leila.
When the wound was properly exposed, the leader of the waiters took the knife from my mate and cut her wrist. I closed my eyes so that I wouldn't see her pained look.
I suddenly felt a soothing feeling on the wound. It was as if something was soothing the pains away drastically and it was lulling me to sleep. I didn't fight the feeling. I allowed sleep to take over and fell happily into its dark embrace. For the first time since Shanty stabbed me with the bane, I fell into a restful sleep.
Maureen's POV
'Is it ok for him to sleep?' Leila asked Grandma Gina after we discovered that Ian had fallen asleep.
'Yes. If he didn't fall asleep, that will call for worry,' Grandma Gina answered.
'I can almost feel him in my head. Is that normal?' Leila asked.
'Yes. It is normal. His wound has blood in it and your blood is now mixed with his. If he is awake, you will have felt him more strongly than you are right now,' the leader of the waiters answered.
'Ok. Thank you,' Leila said smiling.
I noticed that she smiled quickly and her expressive eyes showed how happy she was to find her mate. Leila was a good description of what a celestial being would look like. One might even be tempted to ask her to remove her clothes just to be sure she didn't have wings. She had an oval-shaped face with lips that were generously formed and skin that was pure caramel. It was normal that she would be tanned because a rogue's life was always outside.
'Leila, we have to leave now. Take care of Ian, and please make sure that when he comes awake, he doesn't come after me. Promise me you will do everything to keep him in that bed until he is okay,' I said to Leila.
'I promise. He won't get out of that bed until I am sure he is one hundred percent okay or, better still, until the doctors give him the all clear,' Leila promised,d, giving me her easy smile.
'Is there any other thing I should know?' Leila asked.
'No. Nothing of importance now. The Alpha of this pack, the Beta male and female, and the Luna might come by once in a while. I will make sure you are taken care of but stay here with him. Don't wander around. You know why,' I said and she nodded.
I didn't want her wandering around until she could get rid of her rogue smell. I didn't want a situation where she would be mistaken for a threat and hence be attacked.
We left the room and I sighed in relief. Ian was okay and in good hands. I can concentrate on the task ahead.
'Asher sent footage of what the council front gate looked like at the moment,' Lance said as we entered the car to set off. The waiters were in their cars behind us.
I collected the phone from Lance, and when I saw the kind of siege that was on the council, I shook my head in dismay. They were really prepared for war.
'How did they get these so many fake soldiers and where have they been keeping them?' I wondered since I could see a lot of them standing guard at the council gate.
'They must have been moving them a few at a time to throw off suspicion,' Lance said.
'And the most foolish part is that they are yet to wonder how we overcame the previous ones they sent,' I said hissing at their foolishness.
'It is good they are thoughtless. They wouldn't know what hit them,' Lance said grinning.
'No matter what happens. The Luna of Rolling Hills is mine to deal with. Tell the others. We will settle it female to female,' I said and Lance nodded.
She wanted trouble and I was going to give it to her in an overdose. She was a disgrace to every female alive.
