Chapter 214 Abducted III

Chapter 214 Abducted III
“I don’t think I am indebted to you anymore, Eva. That accident that happened in front of my hospital was you, Eva. You killed a man! I saw you. I have evidence, but I chose to keep shut because I felt guilty. I regret it now. I should have handed it over to the police. My son wouldn’t have been put in harm’s way!” Heaven said.

“My bad… you should, but now it’s too late…”

Heaven wanted to engage her in more talks; she knew Maverick would find them, but she wasn’t sure of the time.

A beep, beep, beep sound rang from Eva’s phone.

“Fuck!!” Eva cursed and pulled it out.

Her face twisted. “Seems like your little brat wants to go to hell before you. I will grant him that,” Eva said, making her way to the door.

“No… no… Liam!!!” Heaven shouted and called. “Liam!!!!!” She cried harder.

She looked around the room, searching for anything to help cut the rope on her hands. She saw the edge of a rusted iron cupboard. She moved with the help of her legs, dragging herself. She rubbed her hands on the sharp edge over and over again. She winced each time it cut her skin, but she didn’t stop.

Maverick, where are you?

Few minutes earlier

Havilah had gone to play as her mommy asked her to. But she heard noise coming from the basement, like a hitting sound.

“Mummy?”

There was no response.

She got up and went to see where the noise was coming from. She opened the door and saw a sack moving.

“Who are you?” she asked, scared. The bag shook more, revealing shoes and trousers.

“Liam?” She ran to the sack and removed it from his head. Then she removed the duct tape covering his mouth. He winced.

“Untie me,” Liam said.

“What are you doing here, Liam? Mummy said she sent you home.”

“Well, your mummy lied to you. We should leave now. Everyone will be worried about us,” Liam said, moving for the door. He noticed Havilah wasn’t following.

“Let’s go!”

“No, mummy said daddy will come, and then we can be together as before. I’m waiting for daddy,” Avi said, her eyes hopeful.

Liam sighed. “Your mummy lied, and she’s bad. She tied me up here, Havilah.”

“That’s not true, Liam. Mummy loves me. She can’t lie to me.”

“But she told you she sent me home, but I am here! Did she tell you to take me to the haunted house? Did she tell you to keep talking to her in secret all this while?”

Havilah nodded.

“Let’s go, Havilah,” Liam said, tugging her hand. “Let’s go get help.”

Havilah couldn’t believe it, but with Liam here, it meant her mother had lied to her. She looked at Liam’s hand over hers and saw the red-stained marks from the rope earlier.

“Liam, I’m sorry.”

Ten minutes felt like a hundred years to Maverick. He paced and paced, pulling his hair and cursing himself for not protecting them well enough. Finally, the call on their whereabouts came.

“Thornehill Resort. The van she entered went down that route. But we don’t have further access,” the voice came from the phone.

Maverick wanted to move to the car, but Boyle stopped him. “Mave, we have to be more rational with our thinking.”

Maverick took the phone from his brother. “Send as many choppers as you can. Scale every angle of that resort.”

“Done, sir.”

“Who owns that resort?” Maverick asked.

“It was recently purchased under the name Havilah Richards… your daughter, sir!”

Boyle looked at Maverick with wide eyes. It was Eva. Maverick’s jaw locked. He entered the car and drove to the Thornehill Resort.

Havilah led Liam to the front, but Liam stopped her. “Where is she?”

“She went out through this door,” Havilah said.

“Then we should use the back.” They slipped through the back door. The two kids got out and let the door slam shut, setting off the alarm.

Liam looked towards the cleared path and then into the woods where the tall trees were.

“Havilah!!!” they heard Eva calling.

Liam pulled Avi into the woods. They hid behind a big tree.

“Avi, baby, come to mummy…”

Havilah looked at Liam, her breath already shaking.

“Mummy is calling me, Liam,” she whispered.

“You can’t go. She has a gun.”

“Havilah!!!!” Eva got pissed. “You can’t sabotage things now. You have been obedient to mummy… keep being obedient. And bring that little boy to me right now!”

Eva stepped forward and checked behind a tree. Liam heard the crunching of her feet against the dried leaves.

“You can’t be helping him. You should be standing by me. Him and his mother are the reason why we can’t be together as one family!” Eva said.

No response. She checked another tree.

“Avi,” she began crying. “You want to abandon me too? I will be all alone. You can’t do this to mommy. You are all I have.”

Havilah couldn’t keep still anymore; she moved her feet, causing the leaves to rustle.

Eva smiled.

Boom!

Heaven was untying her feet when she heard the gunshot. “No… no… Liam.” She reached for the door and stopped, then she pulled out a rifle from the cupboard and took it with her.

“Shit!” Eva screamed. Liam and Havilah had run in the opposite direction. Liam calculated she needed to cock the gun to fire a shot, but he didn’t know if she had done that already, so he tossed his watch. Luckily, it aligned with the time Havilah moved her feet.

As they were running, since it was dark and the light from the house was no longer reaching the inner part of the woods, they stumbled on a broken branch and fell. Liam fell on a stone, scraping his knee on it. It bled.

“Liam, blood,” Havilah said, blowing on it.

Liam wanted to cry, but all he thought about was his mama. She would have been worried enough to cry.

“Havilah, step aside, now!!” Eva reached them.

“Mummy, please don’t hurt Liam. He is my friend,” Havilah said, bawling her eyes out.

“On one condition. Come to mommy.”

“Havilah, don’t,” Liam said.

“Promise, mommy.”

“I promise,” Eva said as she brought the gun down.

Havilah took a step. Eva lifted the gun again.

Boom

The gun fell from Eva’s hand.

“Liam, run now!!!” Heaven screamed.

“Mama?” Liam broke into tears, the ones he had been holding back.

“Liam, go get help. I’m fine.”

Havilah took his hand this time and ran.

The force of the gun had sent Eva to the floor.

Heaven closed the distance, the gun still pointing at Eva. She used her foot to kick the gun on the floor aside.

“You always have a way of winning. You are one lucky bitch,” Eva said, “but not so lucky in the jungle.” She poured a handful of sand into Heaven’s eyes.

Heaven closed her eyes. Eva grabbed Heaven’s neck and began to strangle her
