Chapter 169 Betrayal
Kiara stood frozen at the door, her eyes wide, her mouth shivered. Why was her husband holding Boyle Richard who is supposed to have died seven years ago.
“Edward what is going on here?” Her breath shook. “Why is he here?”
A knock came at the door and she flinched. “Who’s there?” Edward’s voice sounded.
“General, it's Zoro.”
“Come in,” Edward voice was stiff showing his anger.
The door opened and a tall hefty young man entered. Immediately he saw the man on the floor he looked shocked. His gaze moved to the secret door that laid open.
Edward got up and took slow steps to him. A thunderous slap landed across Zoro’s face.
Loud enough that Kiara flinched.
His cheeks moved to his side but he didn’t move and didn’t give any reaction.
“One job I gave you. Handle things at home while I am away you couldn’t do it?!” He roared.
“I’m sorry General. I must have left in a hurry to attend to your others and had forgotten to lock the door properly,” he explained
Edward threw a lot slap. “Are you saying I’m at fault?”
Zoro’s jaw ticked. “No. General, that’s not what I mean. It is my mistake and I promise it would never happen again,” he bowed his head.
Edward ran a hand through his black flakes with silver hair. Everything was against him right now and he had to get hold of the situation right this minute before things fell apart.
“I do hope there's good news because that’s the only thing I want to hear.” He said pulling his scared wife into himself like having her close would calm his nerves and hers because hadn't moved away from Boyle.
“I will answer all your questions, dear. Not right now. Get your emotions in check. Our family and legacy depends on this, Kiara. Can you do that?
She looked at him and nodded slowly.
“Zoro spill.” He said,
“We were able to capture her, sir. She’s at the dungeon.”
Edward breathed in relief, two of his problems had been solved. Boyle was here and that Vincent’s daughter was in his grasp. All he had to do was deal with Don’s bullshit.
Boyle groaned. He stirred awake.
Zoro’s hand flew to the earpiece on her ear.
“General, General Richard is on his way here,” he said.
“Shit! By here you mean?” Edward’s head snapped up.
“Your study sir,” No fucking no way.
Boyle heard it. If his father was coming here it meant he had received his call and had come to take him. This was his last chance.
“Father!!!!!!!!!!!” He screamed and wiggled. Zoro moved immediately he immediately stuffed his mouth with a cloth.
He continued to make muffled noises.
“Take him back where he belongs now!!!” Edward roared.
He turned to Kiara, holding her by her shoulders she flinched.
“You will go out there and stall for time okay. You are doing this for us okay?”
“I-I don’t know how to act or what to say, Edward…” she stammered
“Just act normal, hold him back for a while. I will join you soon.. ” he said as he pushed her out of the room outside the door.
General Richard had just climbed the final staircase when he stumbled on Kiara.
“R..Richard.. uhh.. you are here..I wasn’t expecting to see you.” She gave an awkward laugh... “sorry.. the butler didn’t see you in—”
“Where’s Edward?” Richard went straight to the point.
“He is uhh.. he is..”
Crash!!
Something shattered in his study. Richard’s eyes flew to the door. He brushed past Kiara. She quickly went after him lost at what to do.
“Richard.. how is Eva and Avi..” she asked him immediately.
He didn’t stop walking, she hurried after him. “They are fine, they were discharged Maverick took them home,”
“Oh that’s great,” she raised her voice, her heart beating loudly. Hoping her husband was done hiding Boyle.
Richard's hand closed on the door handle.
Before he could pull it, the door opened Edward stepped out. Not a single strand of hair out of place, not a single sweat on his face. Before Richard could glance inside the room he closed the door behind him.
“Richard, you didn’t tell me you were coming,” he had a smile on his face.
“How would I let you know when you took my phone?” he asked.
“Oh, my bad, that's true.” He slipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a phone “It was actually Kiara calling.. she wanted to check on the kids.. you know how women are easily worried— right Kiara?”
“R-right.” She shook her head.
Richards looked deeply at Edward’s face trying to read what was happening to him.
“Your phone wasn’t dead Edward, you had it in your hand when I came and it was ringing when you walked out of that hospital. What the fuck is up with you?”
Edward fell silent. From the way Richard looked at him , he figured out he had found out what transpired at the hospital the night prior.
His face switched into sadness. “Something is indeed going on, Ri.” He sighed. “I didn’t want to say it because I know it's going to be a sensitive topic and I didn’t want to pinch you where you were once injured.” He said.
“There was an incident at the hospital yesterday. Avi was almost poisoned. It was a narrow escape, we would have all lost another child,” he emphasized the last part, his voice cracking.
“Luckily I came in time to stop her, a little altercation and I saw her face. You wouldn’t believe that it was Major Vincent’s daughter.”
Richard’s face switched to shock.
“S-she tried to stab Maverick and poison Avi. She told me she wanted revenge that her father died because of you so she wants to annihilate Richard's line. I wanted to handle it myself. I have lost a son because I know how it feels. I have a whole team searching for her so she can be caught..”
Richard understood his friend's angle. “Thanks man,” they shook hands.
“For looking out for me but when it comes to my family, my children. I will kill anyone who dares hurt them. I will deploy some men to search for her too.”
Edward nodded.
A servant walked forward holding a cup of tea on a tray meant for Richard. When she reached close to him she stumbled and spilled the tea on his shirt. “I’m so sorry sir,” she fell on her feet apologizing.
“What’s wrong with you? Can’t you see.” Kiara immediately scolded her.
“I’m sorry,” she cried.
“It’s alright. It’s just a mistake,” Richard said.
“Let’s go get you cleaned up,” Edward said.
As they went the girl looked up from the glass she was picking up. She had a black mole on the side of her face. Her eyes pierced into the back of Edward’s head. Her hands tightened around the glass shard enough to draw blood.
