Chapter 162 Edward’s secret

Chapter 162 Edward’s secret

Liam couldn’t think of any way to sneak out of school, if he did his mama would be called and she would become sad than she already is.

So he called Uncle Rayan to come pick him up at closing time.  Liam quickly went to pick Rebecca from her class. They waited for him at the pick up spot.

Rayan’s mood was the brightest in the car. His thump tapped lightly on the steering wheel.

“Open that compartment,” he told Samantha she wondered why she had agreed to even tag along with him. She guessed she still had attachment issues after sex.

She obeyed and opened it. There was only a car key inside. She took it out.

“It's for you,” he told her casually.

Samantha’s brows creased. “I don’t want it, give it to your whore.” She tossed it back and looked outside the window. Rayan immediately remembered she hated gifts after sex.

He sighed. “I already had it prepared before today. I was going to give it to you eventually.” He explained she still ignored him.

“You lied to me about your whereabouts last night,” he blurted out, grabbing her attention.

“W-hat?”

He tapped on the car's center screen and the GPS glowed. “I won’t ask you why you were there but just know this Sam. If any man touches you I will cut his arm and serve it to you in a box,” he met her eyes before turning back to the road.

Sam knew he meant it. Rayan was always playful but his other side was the same as his joyfulness.

Her pulse thudded in her throat. She didn’t tell him there was no other man.

She just took the key and they drove in silence.

“The almighty little imp couldn’t stand being away for a few hours. He asked me to come pick him up.”

Samantha and Liam rolled their eyes at him.

“Good afternoon Aunt Sam,” Liam greeted.

“Champ whatsup,” she replied leaning to fasten Rebecca’s seatbelt. The little girl's legs kicked happily.

“How was your first day at school sweetheart? Did you make a new friend” She asked Rebecca, removing a stray hair from her face.

“Fine, mommy said to not cry. So I didn’t cry. Jennifer is my friend she leaned me her ‘sharpgner’.”

“It’s sharpener,” Liam corrected her.

“Uncle Rayan, I want to visit a friend at the military hospital. I will be brief, please take me there.” Liam asked.

Back at the military hospital. Edward stood at the floor to ceiling window looking out to the city below the hospital. His hands joggled two marbles while his mind thought back to the night of  Havilah’s fall.

He sat on the chair, his finger tapping lightly on the armrest. He watched and waited for his daughter to wake up. A file laid open on the table with a pen in the middle. Immediately he sensed her movement.

“Sign those divorce papers,” .

Her eyes snapped open fully and she stared at him like he had said the worst thing ever.

“Daddy..are you joking?” She asked but he kept a straight face.

“You are not?” Her breath shook. “I won't, I love Maverick..” she told him.

“Does he love you?” He asked her.

“He loves me. He just doesn’t know how to show it .. you know Maverick is cold..”

“Does the drugs you take now make you delusional,”

Edward looked at his daughter. She looked miserable, a shadow of the bright bubbly girl he once knew.

She flinched. “How.. did you know?” She whispered.

“How do I know?” He leaned forward resting his elbows on his knees. “There’s nothing I don’t know about Evangel. Especially with my only child. Did you think you got away with hiring those men to go after your sister in law because you were smart? Maverick would have known the truth if not for me”

She got up. Color drained from her face. Her mind flashed back to that night seven years ago where the people she had hired.

“Don’t you trust us enough to handle it..” she didn’t  understand it then but now she does. Her father had sent the other people.

“Daddy.. I just wanted him all to myself..” tears fell from her eyes.

“You can’t keep a man. All these years you have been married to him, did you manage to get his attention? Even after you gave him a child.”

He rose fully, his jaw tightened, as he saw his daughter's tears.

“Sign it. I am sending you out of the country for rehab. You have caused enough damage.”

She scrambled up and rushed to her father and fell at his feet. “Daddy please I can’t leave without Maverick. He is my life. I would die without him,” she sobbed hard.

“How many more irrational decisions do you want to make because of him?Do you know the mess you have created? ” he roared at his daughter.

“Please.... I won't take those drugs anymore..”

He turned away. She snatched the pen from the file, holding it like a dagger to her own throat. The tip pressed  into her skin.

“I will die without him. Let me just die now!!!!” She screamed.

“You want to kill youself for a man who wouldn’t come for you if you asked him too?” He asked her in disbelief.

“He will.. I will make him come to me..”

His phone dinged, pulling him out of his thoughts. It was the file on the whereabouts of the Vincent family. He flipped through the pages.

He had  two children, all girls. His wife had committed suicide not been able to handle the fact humiliation and segregation that husband was tagged a traitor.

The second daughter has never been held from and had disappeared while Priscilla was a little revengeful. She had been a superior but was demoted to the lowest rank.

Everyone lost respect for the daughter of whom the father was a thief of ammunition and a murderer of a top loyal officer.

She had written lots and lots of petitions claiming her father was framed and he was innocent but nobody bothered to pick up the case again.

Who would dare cross the Richard’s?

“Edward,”

“Edward,”

He snapped out from his thoughts and pressed his power button.

“What’s got you lost? Did the doctor say something  or did something happen?” Richard asked.

“Nothing,” he smiled. Looking behind him.

“I came alone Eleanor is sick and Maverick.. he is on his way, you and Kiara  should go home and rest I will watch them,”

“I want to see my baby open her eyes—”

Richard’s phone vibrated; he brought it out, his eyes squinted.

“Why is your study landline calling me?”

Edward's eyes twitched.

“The servants might be trying to reach me since my battery is dead so they called you instead…” he forced a smile. “I will take it,”
