Chapter 126 The murder
Jo grabbed her wrist and pulled her away.
The servants parted silently as he dragged her toward the exit.
Behind them, Eva stood trembling, fists still clenched, staring after the retreating figures.
She turned and walked up the stairs.
Summer prayed the journey back home wouldn’t end but it eventually did.
“I told you I needed to get General Richard on my side to win the primaries and you saw fit to sabotage everything for me.” He said calmly “by going to seduce his son and fighting with his daughter in law. ”
Summers mouth opened and closed
“No.. No baby, it was a mistake. I got lost after using the restroom, I swear. I was asking him for directions. That woman just… she came at me. Please. You have to believe me.”
He didn’t answer . He removed his cuff links, then his watch dropping it down on his study table.
“Send all the servants home.. My wife and I need privacy. We will be loud.” He spoke into the land line.
He walked towards the old vintage music player and turned it on and increased the volume.
Then he bent and picked a baseball bat from the wall.
Fear gripped Summer. She backed away as he walked towards her.
“I’m sorry.. I swear I didn’t do it..”
“You did it, Summer..” he looked at her. “You know why because you wanted to seduce him and get away from me because I wouldn’t be able to fight them.” He chuckled.
“I already saw it, you hate being seen with me in public. I wondered why you suddenly decided to follow me..”
She knelt down begging him. “That’s not true..”
“So I’m lying.” He asked her.
She shook her head frantically. Her face was already battered from the beating earlier.
“No.. no Y-you are not”
He tilted his head. “Funny thing. I suddenly don’t find you very appealing anymore. Look at you.” He made a small gesture toward her battered face. “Ruined.”
Her breath hitched.
“W-what do you mean?” She asked.
He tapped the bat lightly on the floor.
“I’m thinking of my options. Ways to discard you. Young actress Summer battling depression jumps down a building or hangs herself or overdoses herself He chuckled “The press would eat it up. I will get sympathy votes. My poll numbers would probably go up.”
A sudden cold shot all over her body. Her heart slammed through her ribcage.
The smirk disappeared. He lifted the stick and landed her the first hit on her leg.
Summer cried out in pain.
She scrambled back and limped towards the door but he had already locked it. She couldn’t die here, she told herself.
He came after her again and she dodged it. It landed in a coffee shop and the wood broke.
She quickly moved to the table and reached for a whiskey bottle and immediately smashed it over his head with everything she had.
Jo staggered, blood gushed out rushing down to his temple. He chuckled. “You have grown wings now summer.. today is your last day on earth..”
He came forward at full speed towards the window area where she stood.
He lifted the bat to strike her head.
In pure panic Summer used the broken shard from the shattered bottle and stabbed his neck with both hands and pulled it out.
Jo’s eyes widened in surprise.
Summer watched blood gush out in pulses over her hands, her face and her dress.
He tried to speak but nothing came out
The bat clattered on the floor.
She watched life vanish from his eyes before he collapsed putting his crushing weight on her pinning her against the window.
Summer stood frozen, breathing in gasps.

“I have good news and bad news” Heaven looked up from the patient's file. “Which would you like to hear first?”
The patient was an elderly woman who came with her grandson. She sat stiffly and wriggled with her fingers nervously in her laps.
“The bad one..” the woman said quietly “I would like to know the bad one first.”
“There is a tumour indeed” Heaven said gently “and you will be needing surgery.”
The woman gasped, tears already welled up in her grandson's eyes.
“Is my grandma going to die?..” he asked, his voice breaking “she can’t die, she's all I have…”
Heaven's heart squeezed with pity.
“No.. No,” she said quickly “your grandma won’t die. According to the MRI scan, the tumor is not cancerous but it’s benign.” pointing at the image in the report.
“It’s an abnormal growth pressing on some nerves in her head.”
“What does it mean..?” The boy asked hopefully.
“It means she just needs surgery to remove it,” she explained calmly. “Once it’s taken out she will be okay.”
“I will be performing the surgery for your grandma.. you have absolutely nothing to worry about..” she gave them a reassuring smile.
The boy nodded, relief washing over him.
“Thank you so much, pretty lady..” the old woman said softly before reaching out on the table and grabbed Heaven's hand before she could react.
“You were born from a place of love into pain," the woman murmured, her grip tightening.
“And it has followed you like a shadow that knows your name.”
Heaven's smile faltered, her brows knotted in confusion.
“Betrayal will not leave your path easily,” the woman continued. “It will come again, from a place you thought was safe. And what lies ahead will test you in ways you cannot yet imagine.” The woman’s face tightened.
“I’m so sorry..” the boy said nervously, trying to pry his grandmother's hand away.
“My Nana does that sometimes .. she just babbles..”
Heaven gently pulled her hand free and cleared her throat. “It’s okay,” she forced a professional smile. “Please.. uh.. collect the forms from the nurse and choose a suitable date for the surgery.”
The boy bowed. “Thank you..”
The old woman’s eyes still lingered on Heaven, with unspoken words even as her grandson guided her out.
When the door closed she exhaled slowly. Her heart thudded uneasily in her chest.
What did she mean by that?
She shook her head trying to get rid of the chills that ran through her spine, straightened her posture, and reached for the phone on her desk.
“Send in the next patient,” she said.
She placed the receiver back down. She reached for her Steven’s cup and drank from it. Then opened the next file.
The door opened again.
“Please have your seat–”
“You work like you don’t have a man who would give you the moon if you asked for, Vera.”
She shot her head up at the sound of the familiar voice that warmed her heart and set light to her darkness.
“Maverick!”
He stood there in the doorway, one hand casually in his pocket, the other hand held a big bouquet of roses. The scent already drifted across the room.
She stood up so fast her seat rolled back.
“You are here”
She crossed the distance so fast and hugged him tightly, dropping a kiss on his neck.
He chuckled.
“Did you miss me?”
“Yes” she nodded.
Maverick wrapped his lone hand around her waist, lifting her clean off the floor as though she weighed nothing. Her legs dangled before he set her gently on the edge of the desk.
