Chapter 54 You Don't Deserve Her

Chapter 54 You Don't Deserve Her
Damien turned a corner and slammed into someone.

Damien’s reflexes were instant. His hand shot up, prepared to snap a neck if needed.

But he stopped when he recognized the face.

CASPIAN!

Caspian raised a brow, dressed in his pajamas, his expression becoming sharp with suspicion.

The two men stared at each other with tension radiating from them like heat from a furnace.

Caspian's eyes narrowed. "Why are you creeping around the house at this hour, bodyguard?" “…Working late?” he asked in a suspicious tone.

Damien didn’t respond. He stepped to the side to walk away, but Caspian mirrored his movement, blocking his path.

“Let me guess,” Caspian said, crossing his arms smugly. “Roaming around the mansion like you own it? Or maybe… visiting Elena’s room?”

Damien’s eyes darkened instantly the moment he mentioned Elena’s name.

Caspian stepped closer, lowering his voice. “You should be careful, Cole. Elena is my fiancée. Or soon will be.”

Damien’s expression remained blank, but the anger behind his eyes was unmistakable.

His silence stoked Caspian's irritation.

"You should remember your place," Caspian continued, voice low. "You work for her father. Nothing more."

Damien stepped past him. But Caspian shoved him back.

"And now that Elena and I will be engaged soon, you need to..." He smirked. "Back. Off."

Damien's jaw clenched.

Slowly, he turned and faced him fully.

His voice was a cold blade. "Engaged?"
He let the word hang. "You truly are an ignorant fool."

Caspian stiffened. "What did you just say?"

"You follow whatever your parents tell you," Damien said, stepping closer. "You didn't even notice how pale she looked tonight. How quiet. How broken. All you cared about was holding her hand in front of her father."

Caspian clenched his jaw. "I love Elena."

Damien laughed - not out loud, but filled with pure disdain.

"Love?" he repeated. "You call that love? You don't even see her. You're up in your own ass to see her distress!"

Caspian's face burned red from humiliation.

Damien leaned in, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
"She's fucking suffocating. And you're too blind - or too self-absorbed - to realize you're part of the cage she's trapped in."

Caspian grabbed Damien's shirt.
"You think she would ever pick you? You're a nobody. You are just a servant... A fucking dog. I will be the one she marries at the end of the day. I will be her husband. I know how you look at her. But I'm warning you, keep your hands off what's mine!"

Damien scoffed and shoved him away harshly.

“I may be just a servant. But I'm not an ignorant fool like you, who mistakes your parents’ decisions for your own,” Damien said through gritted teeth. “You don’t love her. You love the idea of having her.”

Caspian stiffened, but Damien didn’t stop there.

He stepped even closer to him, his voice deadly cold. “You claim Elena will marry you regardless of her feelings, as if she’s property. That alone proves how unworthy you are.”

Caspian’s jaw clenched. His pride was bruised. “Watch your mouth! You’re just a bodyguard,” he hissed. “Know your place.”

“My place?” Damien tilted his head. “My place is by Elena’s side, because she wants me there. Can you say the same?”

The hit landed right in the center of Caspian’s ego.

His nostrils flared, and his fists tightened.

Damien didn't know why he was suddenly feeling overprotective of Elena. But after saying what's on his mind, he felt lighter.

He simply shoved Caspian so hard that the man stumbled into the wall. He was shocked by the strength behind the push.

"Touch me again," Damien paused and said calmly, "and I'll break your arm. He simply said, “If you think you’ll win her heart by force… you’re a bigger fool than I thought.”

Caspian stared at him, seething but didn't say anything else.

Damien didn't give him another glance.
He turned and walked away disappearing into the shadows again.

Caspian remained where he was - against the wall, his fists trembling. Humiliation burned his entire body.

Who the hell was Damien to speak to him like that?

Who was he to shove him?

Who was he to challenge the future heir of the Volkov empire?

But worse...

Who was he to come between him and Elena?

Caspian breathed in slowly, then exhaled.

"I won't let him win," he whispered to himself, his fists curled tighter, as if he now realized how dangerous an opponent Damien was.

"No one will steal Elena from me. Not even a rat like him." His eyes darkened.

Caspian stood frozen, humiliated, and angry.

His chest rose and fell rapidly as he replayed every word Damien spoke.

The humiliation pulsed through his veins.

“No,” he whispered to himself, his breath trembling with rage. “I won’t let him take her. I can't let that happen. Elena has been mine since childhood.”

His eyes hardened, dark, possessive, and twisted.

“Elena will be mine,” he muttered. “And Damien…” His lips curled into a cruel smirk. “…will be removed.”

He believed Damien wasn't just competition. He was a threat.

A threat to the engagement.

A threat to Elena's obedience.

A threat to the future he was supposed to have.

"So be it," Caspian murmured. "If he wants war... I'll give him one."

He lifted his chin proudly.

"At the end of the day," he whispered, a twisted smile playing on his lips,

"I will still be the winner."

The decision settled in his mind with finality. He was already planning the downfall of the one man Elena should have never fallen for.

And with that, Caspian walked back to his room, unaware that the monster he planned to challenge...
He was far more dangerous than he could ever imagine.
