Chapter 25
Scarlet's POV.
Please...please don't say it's Mandy. I am scared, just like that night. The fear is consuming me, and if he confesses that the woman he loves is Mandy, I might lose all confidence to trust men again.
His hand slowly drifted from my shoulder, his voice... trembled, and his eyes refused to look me in the eyes.
“Yes, it's Mandy. We have known each other since primary school, and she's been in my heart from then on. At first, it was just friendship, but I never realized when I started liking her, and before I knew, I was already in love with her. But she liked someone else. In fact, she was dating someone else. My love for her was just one-sided. So I decided to forget her. But no matter how much I tried to forget her, I couldn't.”
The world I built upon the hope of finding a new love again shattered in just a few seconds, leaving me stranded on a sharp piece of my own hopes. How ridiculous! I am nothing but a laughingstock.
“Since you can't forget her, how dared you confess your love to me? Am I a plaything? A doll you can play with anytime and anywhere? Did you ever reconsider my feelings?” I am mad, angry at him for lying to me.
No! I am disappointed and angry at myself for trusting someone again.
I thought Raymond was different. But just like everyone else, even he played with my emotions. I was wrong to think he was different. I betrayed my conscious, my senses.
I dared not to look him in the eyes; I was ashamed of myself. I already concluded I wasn't the love of his life. Someone else is. But still, I clung to that one hope. I had promised myself to never trust anyone, never let anyone hurt me, not to cry again. But what did I do in the end? I crossed the boundaries of my pain, giving myself more hurt and injuries.
“I am sorry! I... I lashed out at you. I... I am not in the right mind right now. Don't mind what I said. You are a patient; you should rest more. I don't think I can stay with you in this room right now.” I can't breathe.
“Scar, listen to me. I didn't mean it that way. My confession that day...”
“No! Please don't say anything. I have always been used by others all my life. It was my fault to trust someone again. I...want some time to calm down. And if I stay here, I might get even more angry at you, which I don't want to do anymore.”
“Then get angry at me. I won't complain. Scold me, scream me at me.”
“I can't! I can't, Raymond. Let me remind you one thing: from now on, don't give me false hopes. If you can't take responsibility for your actions, stay the f*ck out of me. It's my last warning for you.”
I strode out of the room without looking back. It felt suffocating inside. One look at him and I might regret my life decisions even more.
I am already outside of the mansion and can't go to work since I took a day off and promised to work from home. But since I dashed out without anything, I can't work from home either.
My mind is in a mess; I can't help replaying the same scene where he confessed his first love is Mandy again and again.
In this big city, I have no friends, no one I can rely on. No one I can talk to or have a little fun with to take off that stress from my head.
I chose a park to calm my mind and found a nice place with a tree and bench under it. I sat there, watching my surroundings and thinking about everything with a calm heart now.
I took out any of my memory, and as much as I could remember, it was always Raymond who led me on and gave me hope; I was nowhere giving him any hints.
I watched the kids play, the couple having a lovey-dovey moment; even the elderly couples had the content expression on their faces. Some people are just not fated to be happy, and I am one of them.
I sat in the park for two hours and finally calmed myself. I made a promise to myself, be numb to the happiness, never get reeled on by anyone. But will I be able to stay composed when facing Raymond? My heart has already started to sway; it has already started to like him.
After I returned home, Raymond wasn't in the room. I didn't think much and busied myself with work. Although I was working, but my mind was still not on work, I was still finding Raymond. I somehow shifted my focus on the work.
Three hours later I got a call from his dad; he called me for lunch. Raymond was in the dining room, along with the whole family. We had our lunch, but I didn't participate in their conversation and returned to my room after finishing lunch.
When I returned and opened my phone for some relaxation time, I saw many missed calls from Lyla. Lyla never disturbed me if I ever told her not to if not urgent, so something must have happened for her to call me countless times.
I called her back, only to hear an anxious voice. “Ms. Scarlet, can you... can you please rush to the Wine Road?” Lyla sounded tensed and scared.
“What happened? And why do you sound so nervous?” I got the coat from the hanger and rushed out.
“One of our kids got into trouble. We don't know who's fault is, but the other party is threatening to sue him. I don't know the whole story, but I just know the kid is way too scared to speak.” Even Lyla was rushing to the spot.
“Send me the address and leave everything to me. You are coming too, right?” I asked as I hurried to the main road.
“I was initially heading to the filming site to deliver the dress, which the crew forgot, but then got a call. But don't worry, I am heading toward the kid too. We don't know how big the blunder is, so I think it's better we both go there.” Lyla responded from the other side.
“No! You complete the task the film crew has handed to you. I will go check the situation. I will handle everything on my own. You need not worry. I will update you with the situation.” I waved my hand, and a taxi stopped in front of me. I sat in and hung up the phone.
“Please hurry to the Wine Road.”
The taxi driver drove at a fast speed but still adhered to the guidelines and laws, respecting us both. Win Road is just ten minutes away from the mansion. But my heart is beating anxiously. I just can't imagine what the kid has done.
As we reached Win Road, a huge crowd had blocked the road. The road was fully blocked by vehicles. I could hear the faint cries of the crowd that gathered in a circle.
I rushed in and found the trainee of Left Wing in a bad situation.
His head was badly injured, blood was oozing out, and his hands were scratched badly. I could see it since the clothes on his were torn. I rushed in.
“Are you okay? Let's take you to the hospital.” I got him up from the ground, ready to take him to the hospital.
But a cold hand appeared before me, hinting at me to stop. “You can't take him away.”
A woman wearing heavy makeup and branded clothes stopped me. She looked completely grumpy and angry, annoyed at the kid.
“Who are you? And why aren't you letting me take him away?” I asked, not minding how rude she was earlier.
“This young man almost slammed his car onto mine, crashing into my car. Look at the condition of my car. It's damaged completely. Do you even know how expensive my car is? Not to mention the trauma I got from this accident. Anyway, he can't leave—not unless he pays. If not, I am reporting him to the police.” She threatened.
The sound of chatter became even louder when the woman stood in my way, her heels dug into the ground. She definitely isn't ready to let us leave.
I glanced at my student. “What's your name?”
“Kyle...” he replied.
“So Kyle, what happened here? As she said, Are you at fault?” I asked him and expected him to answer honestly.
Kyle shook his head. “I am not at fault. I was driving carefully, but she stopped the car suddenly out of nowhere, and I crashed into her.”
“He...he's lying. It's all his fault that I got into this accident. Just look at me. I am so hurt. He not only crashed into my car but also gave me these wounds.” The woman is not stepping back.
“Do you trust me?” I asked Kyle.
I heard his side of the story and can feel he's not lying. And if he's in right, I don't think there's anything to be scared or worried about.
Kyle didn't answer me, but I know he has no choice but to trust me right now. If this accident blows up on the internet, not only the left wing will face consequences, but even Ray Entertainment will have to face backlash. I have to say, Michelle Travis's students are a pain the in ass.
“Miss, since my kid is at fault, you have the full authority to report him to the police. But I will also have to ask them to check the CCTV. After all, if you look at my child, you will realize who has more injuries. Plus, look at his car; it's more damaged than yours.” I hinted at his car, which was just her behind hers and was in a complete mess.
“Are you saying I am lying right now? Why do you have to look at his condition when he's the one at fault? Look, I don't care how injured he is; just pay me and I will leave.” She started lashing out at us.
And the crowd seems to support her. It's not good.
“I know my child won't break the laws. Plus, we are ready to go to the police, so why are you taking a step back? We will pay you, but only after my child is proven guilty. Since you want to report him, you should... immediately.”
