Chapter 13
Scarlet's POV.
“Don't you dare look toward my husband. I am telling you, he isn't someone you can look for whenever you want.” I warned.
“Oh my! You don't have to worry. I will take care of what I want to do with him. He was poor before, so I left him to you. But now that he's rich, I want him back.”
I looked at Raymond's sleeping state after hearing Trista, and I seriously felt like slapping her hard across the cheek, but I hardly stopped myself after realizing she wasn't there.
“Trista, you should dream of something possible. My husband is out of your reach. You won't ever be able to catch him. So your thoughts are just useless and impossible to become reality.” I said as I caressed his face.
“My dear sister, I know what I want in life. I am not like you. So instead of convincing me, you should talk to yourself. Goodbye...” She hung up the phone.
I wanted to make Trista pissed and jealous, but no matter what kind of word choice I set into my throat, I just couldn't achieve it.
I set my phone aside and slept beside him again. He hugged me from behind, sensed my warmth, and squeezed me.
I fell asleep in his arms, and when I woke up, it was another day. I opened my eye and saw Raymond staring at me.
“When did you wake up?” I asked.
“Maybe ten minutes around,” he answered.
“It's morning already. I think we should get going now.” I said as I got up from the bed.
I forced him out of bed and freshened up by the cold air and morning sun that touched our faces. Now that it was morning, everything looked extremely beautiful and gorgeous.
We got into our car, and he drove us back. It really took us more than six hours to arrive home, and the moment we came back, he hit the bed. As for me, I freshened up, wore a beautiful dress appropriate for the CEO lady, and left the house. I didn't wake him. He looked tired.
Today, when I arrived at the company, I found everyone staring at the mere sight of me. At first, they were distant, but the next moment they came to me, greeted me warmly, and resumed their work.
“Ms. Scarlet, let me take you to your office. Follow me.” Lyla appeared out of nowhere and took me to my new office.
My new workplace is quite something. It was decorated beautifully, and there was a beautiful picture of my mom's place on the table. She looked young and beautiful, completely fit to be a young CEO.
The moment I stepped into this room, a new perspective stood before me. Nostalgia hit me harder.
“Where did you get this photo?” I asked Lyla.
“This office room belongs to Ms. Jade Quinn, and no one has ever entered in here except the cleaning lady and her closest friend.” Said Lyla.
“I see! Thank you so much for clearing this office for me. I am really grateful.” I thanked her.
“You shouldn't thank me. If you really want to thank someone, thank Mr. Wilson. He cleaned this place for you personally.” Lyla chirped.
“Mr. Wilson? Who is he?” I asked.
“Mr. Wilson was Ms. Jade's former business partner. He comes here regularly and inspects the files whenever he can.” Lyla sounded dedicated to Mr. Wilson the way she was talking about him. It seems like he's her role model.
This Wilson sounds quite interesting. I guess we will be meeting real soon.
I was talking to Lyla when a knock arrived at the glass door. “Come in!” I permitted.
“We finally met. I heard a lot about you from everyone. People just keep talking about the new CEO, aka, the daughter of Jade Quinn. I heard you are young and gorgeous, and they were right.” A man in his late twenties walked in, his hands wrapped in his pockets as he walked confidently towards me.
I gave Lyla a questionable look, asking her who this young man was.
“I am Michelle Travis. And I am sure you have heard about me already from the shareholders. The place I tried to win so hard, you got it completely free, just because you are the daughter of the previous CEO. Correct me if I am wrong, but you don't deserve this position.” He spoke saltily.
I raised my eyebrow, and my eyes shifted on him like glue. We met for the first time, but this person has already made me his enemy. If I look closely, he's no less than Raymond. The only thing that separates them is their aura and personality. Raymond has a gentle and kind aura that sometimes turns cold. Michelle Travis is hot-blooded and easily angered. I don't know him personally yet, but I can already say he's hard to handle.
“Ah! So you are Michelle Travis. Yes, I heard a lot about you. You have been working for this company for seven years, I guess, and you have contributed a lot. Thanks to you, Ray Entertainment has been leaping to the next level ten times faster. It's sad that you didn't become the next CEO. I do feel sad in some senses. But... it's my mother's company. She's the one who started it. Without her first step, your thousand steps were useless. So it's her right to decide who she wants to crown next. You get no right to criticize or doubt her decision.” I looked at him in the eyes while I held my face beneath my hands, spreading dominance.
Michelle Travis gave me a look I could not understand. He glanced at the seat under me and had a smirk on his face. What was he thinking?
“I can tell that you are new in this industry. You haven't studied this profession, have you? Well, I wish you the best. Let's see how far you can go with this loner mentality of yours.” Michelle detests me. He completely detests me.
“Michelle Travis, are you provoking me right now, or have you already made an enemy out of me? We are both working in this industry. I am just a newbie. I don't expect any support from you, but don't become a stepping stone in my way.” I confronted him and warned him at the same time.
“I feel no pride in becoming a stepping stone in someone's life. The place where I am right now was earned by me, and I have given it my all. As for you, you are just temporary. You yourself will resign from this position soon.”
“Are you challenging me right now? 'Cause I feel honored to accept your challenge. Let's see how well I do. Maybe I will do worse, but I have no intention of giving up.” I took his words as a challenge.
“We will see that as time goes on. Don't be so confident just yet.” He warned.
“Yes, we will see that as time goes on. You can go hard on me, but I hope you won't take your personal grudge into our working hours.” I smiled.
Lyla just watched us both as we fought silently head-on.
“I was here to see who our new CEO is, and now that I have seen who she is, I should take my leave.” He walked to the door. “By the way, my kids are hard to handle, so handle them gently. They might scratch you, so don't hurt them in return.” He left the room.
“What kind of person is Michelle Travis?” I turned to Lyla.
“If I am being honest, you shouldn't mess with him. He started as a normal employee seven years ago, but his dedication to this company turned him into the head of the department in just seven years. Anyone who has tried handling him has always returned defeated. You are a CEO, but it's better to be careful of me. We don't know what trouble he might create for you.” Lyla wasn't positive about him, nor was she negative.
“Are you scared of him?” I asked.
And she just laughed heartily. “Ms. Scarlet, what makes you think I am afraid of him? Although he's self-absorbed and hardworking, he is sometimes scary, but I am not afraid of him.” If Lyla says so, then it's true, I guess.
“Well! What would you like to have? Coffee or tea? Maybe something refreshing?” Lyla took on the position of my personal secretary.
“I will have coffee, with extra milk and sugar.” Even I became comfortable around her.
Lyla left the room, and now I was alone here with countless memories of my mother. I never saw her on this side, but now that I was sitting in her seat, I felt like crying. Small droplets formed in my eyes. But crying was not a solution, and it would never be, so I controlled my tears.
I ventured into this huge office until Lyla returned with the coffee. And I was shocked to know so much about my mom. According to these files, Mom was actually a legend. But then, how come I never heard about her until today?
She signed an actor who is known as a famous singer right now. What made me more speechless was that he and Mom became the best buddies after his contract expired with Ray Entertainment. But there's no more information about that person after he left Ray Entertainment. That's suspicious.
I learned so much about Mom that I never knew her all my life. She really lived the life of a queen until she was single.
“You were so courageous and independent. You fell in love with that jerk, but why did you fail to come out of this manipulative and toxic relationship? What held you back?”
