Chapter 174 Fainting from Anger

Chapter 174 Fainting from Anger
The cane came down again and again. Travis gritted his teeth, taking blow after blow without even daring to dodge.

Skylar watched, unmoved.

He'd brought this on himself.

If he'd just told the Yorks earlier, maybe they would've found Chloe by now.

But no. He had to hide it. Had to handle it all on his own.

Well, the cat's out of the bag now.

"Enough." Skylar's voice wasn't loud, but it stopped everyone in their tracks.

Terry was breathing hard as he turned to her.

"Skylar, do you... do you know something?"

Skylar nodded.

"On the wedding day, I saw Amber take Chloe with my own eyes."

"I knew something was off right away. I was going to tell you immediately."

"But a friend of mine had an emergency that day. I had to go help them. There wasn't time."

"Later, I figured Travis was Chloe's husband—telling him would be the same thing."

"I assumed he'd tell you, and you'd send people to find her right away."

Skylar paused, her gaze shifting to Travis. A cold smile tugged at her lips.

"I never imagined he'd hide it from you."

"I only found out today that the Yorks still don't know Chloe's missing."

Terry whipped around to face Travis, his eyes bloodshot.

"Is she telling the truth?"

"You knew Chloe was missing all along?"

Travis's face went deathly pale. His lips moved.

"I..."

"Answer me!" Terry roared.

Travis flinched, then slowly nodded.

"Yes..."

"But, Grandpa, I didn't mean to hide it. I just... I just didn't want you to worry..."

"Didn't want us to worry?" Terry laughed bitterly. "So you kept it from us while Chloe's out there, her life on the line?"

"Travis, I was so wrong about you!"

His chest heaved violently, his trembling finger pointing toward the door.

"Get out!"

"Get the hell out!"

"The York family doesn't need a son-in-law like you!"

"Get out!" Terry's voice shot up, his whole body shaking with rage.

Then his vision went black. He swayed and collapsed backward.

"Dad!"

"Grandpa!"

Two voices rang out at once.

A middle-aged man rushed down from upstairs and caught Terry just in time.

It was Chloe's father, Juan York.

Skylar and Reuben were startled too. Neither expected Terry to pass out from sheer fury.

"Quick! Call the doctor!" Juan shouted.

The servants scrambled to make the call.

Chaos erupted in the living room.

Travis panicked and tried to help, but Juan shoved him away.

"Don't you touch my father!"

Juan's eyes were ice-cold. "This is all your fault!"

"If anything happens to Terry, you're done!"

Travis stumbled back, his face flushing red then draining white.

He stood there, helpless.

Skylar and Reuben didn't leave.

Under the circumstances, walking out now would've been inappropriate.

Reuben moved closer to Skylar and asked quietly, "You okay?"

Skylar shook her head. "I'm fine."

She just hadn't expected Terry's health to be this fragile.

To pass out like that.

If she'd known, she would've broken the news differently.

Still...

Even if she hadn't said anything, Travis couldn't have kept hiding it forever.

The truth will out.

Something as serious as Chloe's disappearance—the Yorks would've found out eventually.

Better they know now. Better they prepare.

The doctor arrived quickly.

After examining Terry, he said it was a case of acute emotional distress. Nothing serious. He'd wake up after some rest.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Juan had the servants help Terry back to his room.

Once everything was settled, he turned to face the people still in the living room.

When his gaze landed on Travis, it was cold as a blade.

"What are you still doing here?"

Travis's face darkened. "I... I wanted to wait until Grandpa wakes up..."

"We don't need your fake concern." Juan's tone was frigid. "Terry doesn't want to see you. Leave."

Travis clenched his jaw, unwilling to go just like that.

But he knew Juan was furious right now. Nothing he said would matter.

He looked at Skylar, hurt flickering in his eyes.

Why would she do this to him?

If she'd just kept quiet, none of this would've happened.

He walked up to Skylar and lowered his voice. "Skylar, what do you gain from ruining me?"

Skylar laughed like she'd just heard the funniest joke.

"Ruin you?"

"Travis, get this straight. I told Terry because I didn't want a life lost because of your selfishness. I didn't want another woman harmed because of you. After all, I've already suffered enough damage because of you."

Reuben stepped forward, positioning himself between them, his gaze cold as he stared Travis down.

"What, thinking about getting physical?"

Travis raised his hand and shook his head.

His eyes were filled with defeat.

"No. I'll never lay a hand on Skylar again."

Reuben sneered. "You'll never get the chance again."

"You hid this from the Yorks because you were scared they'd find out your ex took Chloe, right?"

"You know exactly who Amber is."

"If something really happens to Chloe, do you think the Yorks will let you off?"

Travis's face went ghostly white.

Reuben scoffed but didn't reply.

Travis's face flushed red then pale, his whole body trembling with rage.

He wanted to say something, but Juan cut him off.

"Enough!"

Juan stepped forward, his expression dark as he faced Travis.

"Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough?"

"Someone get him out of here!"

Two security guards immediately approached and grabbed Travis by the arms.

"Let go of me! I can walk myself!" Travis struggled, his face twisted with humiliation.

He shook off the guards' hands, shot Skylar one last venomous glare, then turned and left in disgrace.

The living room finally fell quiet.

Juan turned to Skylar and Reuben, his expression softening slightly.

"Skylar, Reuben, thank you for today."

"If it weren't for you two, who knows how long he would've kept us in the dark."

Reuben's tone was neutral. "It was nothing."

Skylar nodded but said nothing.

Juan sighed. "Please, sit. When Terry wakes up, I'm sure he'll want to talk to you both."

"All right."

They sat down.

The living room was very quiet.

Skylar picked up her teacup and took a sip, glancing at Reuben.

"Do you think Chloe's in danger?"

She kept her voice low.

Reuben thought for a moment, then shook his head.

"Not right now, probably."

"Amber took her for a reason."

"She won't hurt Chloe until she gets what she wants."

Skylar nodded, though unease still gnawed at her.

Amber was unhinged.

No telling what she might do.

"So what do we do next?" Skylar asked.

"Wait for Terry to wake up." Reuben said. "The York family has serious pull. They won't just sit around."

"All we need to do is tell them what we know."

Skylar sighed. "I guess that's all we can do."

"Let's just hope Chloe's okay."
