Chapter 59 Make That Two-faced Person Suffer
Olivia had no clue what was going on outside the café.
After the interview, Daniel took her to the research institute.
Compared to her last visit, the lab was now almost fully equipped, with nearly all the necessary medical gear in place.
Her office was also nearly complete.
Daniel had splurged on her office desk, chair, sofa, and even the break room amenities—all top-of-the-line.
Everything was classy and expensive!
Seeing this, Olivia remarked sincerely, "Wow, you really went all out. Just giving me the basics would've been fine. I'll be spending most of my time in the lab anyway, so I probably won't get to enjoy all this... Instead of this, why not invest more in the lab? That's where the real daily expenses are."
Daniel chuckled, "Do you think I'm strapped for cash? Besides, once the lab's fully operational, my job here is pretty much done. I don't get the research stuff, so I'll be making money just by being around you. Before that, can't I show off a bit?"
He added with a grin, "I'm making you feel a little guilty now, so when you hit it big, you'll remember my generosity and share more with me. This is what I call a long-term investment!"
Olivia couldn't help but laugh, "Feels like you're setting a long-term trap to reel in a big fish."
Daniel snorted, "You could say that!"
Olivia laughed again.
After joking around with Daniel for a bit, she suddenly asked thoughtfully, "Since you've got some extra cash, how about starting an AI medical device company?"
"What?"
Daniel seemed taken aback by the suggestion. "You want to keep developing in this area? Why? Still thinking about the Johnson Group?"
Olivia picked up on his thoughts and quickly clarified, "You're overthinking it. I'm doing this because I don't want to see the Johnson Group's former clients getting messed up by Sophia! Those were my hard-earned clients, and I negotiated with them bit by bit. Now Sophia's clearly targeting me, so why should I just sit back and take it?
I can't let her push me around without fighting back. I want her to know that other people's hard work isn't so easy to steal!"
Daniel's brows finally relaxed.
So that was the reason?
As long as it was not about Michael, that was fine.
As for the rest...
"Alright, I'm with you. Since Sophia has such a big appetite and wants to encroach on your territory, let's show her that not everything is within her reach. When the time comes, she'll get nothing." Daniel said this with excitement, even a hint of playful mischief, "This new company won't be under the Wilson Group's name. Let's make her experience what it means to suffer."
Seeing Daniel's teasing expression, Olivia had no objections.
She not only wanted to defeat Sophia but also aimed to make more money to create better conditions for Bianca!
After hashing out the details with Daniel, Olivia left the preparations to him.
Daniel didn't mind the hassle.
He was ambitious and loved tackling high-stakes challenges.
In the pharmaceutical field, thanks to Olivia's development of a special drug, they had already become the top in the country. Naturally, they should also excel in medical devices!
If they could surpass the Johnson Group, even better!
A week flew by.
Olivia and Daniel's work was going smoothly, but the divorce proceedings were stuck in limbo.
Michael hadn't shown up for the whole week.
Olivia's plan to gather evidence had come to a halt.
Samuel called again, "We need to gather evidence. Without it, the court won't proceed. My contacts in the judiciary are pushing for private mediation."
Olivia frowned, realizing this couldn't go on.
She couldn't just sit back and wait.
If that's the case, she'd have to hire a private investigator to gather evidence.
With this in mind, Olivia quickly found a reputable detective agency online and met with them that afternoon to commission their services.
The agency was clearly experienced in such matters, and their confidentiality was excellent, so Olivia felt assured after paying them.
That evening, Victoria and Vaughn also called to check in, "Has he come back to discuss the divorce? Are you okay?"
Olivia answered truthfully, "No... He hasn't come back. Including the three days before you left, it's been over ten days since he last came home."
"Michael is really too much!" Victoria was clearly furious.
If he no longer cared about this family, why drag out the divorce?
Wasn't this deliberately tormenting Olivia?
Michael was truly infuriating!
Compared to their reaction, Olivia was much calmer.
She reassured them gently, "Mom, Dad, don't worry. I've already hired someone to gather evidence of his infidelity. Once we have it, the process will move quickly!"
Victoria and Vaughn felt slightly better upon hearing this.
Victoria and Vaughn didn't want to talk about Michael and instead said, "Tomorrow is Bianca's birthday. We couldn't take leave this time and won't be able to celebrate with her, but we sent gifts. Remember to check for them."
"Okay." Olivia didn't say much.
These were Victoria and Vaughn's heartfelt gestures.
The next morning, Olivia got up and dressed Bianca up.
Bianca had delicate features, like a little doll. Wearing a beautiful princess dress and a cute hairstyle, she looked absolutely adorable.
She had already arranged with Evelyn to take Bianca out to celebrate her birthday after school.
However, Olivia didn't expect to receive a call from Robert shortly after leaving the house.
Although they worked at the same company, they rarely interacted.
She was a bit surprised and answered the call, but before she could speak, Michael's voice came through.
Michael coldly asked, "Olivia, did you block my number?"
Olivia's eyes flashed, but she didn't respond.
She had indeed blocked Michael.
They barely contacted each other throughout the year, and she found it a waste of space.
"What do you want?" Olivia asked coolly.
Michael seemed displeased with her attitude but suppressed his emotions and said coldly, "Today is Bianca's birthday. I've arranged a party for her at the Johnson Group's five-star hotel, Platinum Haven Hotel. It's specifically for her. Make sure to come on time."
Olivia was stunned for a few seconds, her expression quite surprised.
Michael... actually remembered Bianca's birthday?
In previous years, he only knew because she reminded him.
What was changed this year?
Given their current situation, Olivia should refuse.
But on second thought, this might be an opportunity to gather evidence for the divorce.
After careful consideration, she agreed, "Got it!"
