Chapter 57 No Matter What, Get Him on the Defendant's Stand
Olivia nodded, "I haven't asked for anything!"
"Then he has no reason not to divorce. If he's already with that woman, why would he still cling to you?"
Victoria tried to comfort Olivia, "Don't rush. Wait for him to come home tonight, and then talk to him."
Olivia nodded again.
However, this time, Michael didn't come home for three days straight.
Olivia thought about pushing him, but knowing Michael's stubborn nature, she figured it would only make him more reluctant to divorce.
Maybe it was better to give him some time to cool off. Who knew, he might bring the divorce papers himself.
After all, he wouldn't want to keep Sophia around without any status.
Victoria and Vaughn originally planned to stay until Olivia's divorce was finalized.
But because Michael was taking so long to show up, their vacation ended, and they had to leave earlier than planned.
Before leaving, Victoria and Vaughn were pleased with Bianca's progress.
"We're not as worried about Bianca anymore. Her teacher says she sometimes acts so normal at school that it's hard to tell she has autism. She's improving day by day, and your dad and I can see it too," Victoria said.
Olivia nodded, feeling grateful as well.
It was the right decision not to let Harper continue harming Bianca.
Otherwise, who knew what Bianca would be like now.
Victoria and Vaughn soon grew concerned again.
"We wanted to wait until your divorce was finalized so you could come with us, but it seems that's not possible now... Olivia, after we leave, you need to take care of yourself. If anything happens, tell us immediately."
"That's right. If Michael bullies you or makes you suffer, don't keep it to yourself! Keep us updated on the divorce progress. And here's a card with our savings. Take it, and after the divorce, move out and find a nice place." As Vaughn spoke, he handed Olivia a card.
Olivia was taken aback and refused to take it, "Mom, Dad, I can't accept this. It's your savings. You should keep it for yourselves."
Vaughn insisted, "Why can't you take it? This money is meant for you and Bianca. Your mom and I don't need much. Besides, we're retiring soon and will have plenty of pension money. You don't need to worry about us!"
"Yes, Olivia, take the money. You'll need it to support Bianca and pay for her treatments. It's not a small expense. We saved this money to give you more security and support.
It might not be much, but at least you won't be so flustered when something happens."
Victoria lovingly touched Olivia's face, "Be good, and at least your dad and I won't worry so much when we go back."
Olivia felt the warmth from Victoria's hand and was deeply moved, almost to the point of tears.
She couldn't imagine how frugal Victoria and Vaughn had been to save this money.
She pushed the card back, "Mom, Dad, it's not that I'm being polite... I know how much you care about me, but I really have money!"
"Michael kicked you out of the Johnson Group. Where would you get money?"
Vaughn said sadly, "Olivia, you don't have to pretend with us."
Olivia shook her head, "I'm serious. Even though I left the Johnson Group, I went back to my old profession. Do you remember 'Miracle'? Daniel and I are working together again...
I didn't tell you before because I didn't want you to worry about me and Michael. But now, our lab is being set up, and Daniel has introduced me to several cases. I've earned quite a bit."
To prove it, Olivia took out her phone and showed them her bank account.
Victoria and Vaughn glanced at the screen, stunned by the long string of zeros. Then, their faces lit up with joy.
"Really? Olivia, you're back in medical research?" Victoria's voice was filled with excitement.
"Yep," Olivia replied with a smile.
Vaughn couldn't contain his happiness, "That's amazing! I always said you shouldn't give up your expertise. It's a waste of your talent. Going back to this is the best decision!"
When Olivia had shifted careers before, Victoria and Vaughn were pretty opposed to it.
But seeing her determination, they reluctantly supported her. Despite their support, they always felt it was a pity.
Olivia had a natural talent for medicine. She was recognized as the final and most important disciple by the founder of Medica Vitae Sect when she was very young. In school, she was always at the top of her class and got into the best medical school. After graduation, her exceptional medical skills earned her praise from all her peers.
Victoria and Vaughn had always been proud of Olivia. Now that she was back on track, they were happier than anyone.
Olivia understood their feelings and felt deeply guilty.
In the past, she had let them down. But never again!
"Mom, Dad, I promise I'll stay true to myself from now on. I won't give up on myself for anyone," Olivia assured them solemnly.
Victoria and Vaughn felt a wave of relief, "That's the way to go!"
With this good news, Victoria and Vaughn finally left with peace of mind. They even took back the bank card.
Olivia wanted to give them money, "I'll earn more in the future and take good care of you. Don't be too frugal, and take care of your health."
But Victoria and Vaughn refused, "Keep the money for yourself. We raised you without expecting anything in return. We just want you to be happy and safe."
Olivia's heart ached. Victoria and Vaughn had always been like this, never wanting anything for themselves, always thinking of her.
When she married Michael, Emily gave a large sum of money, but Victoria and Vaughn didn't take a penny.
They gave it all to Olivia. She married into a so-called wealthy family, but never gave them a good life.
When Victoria and Vaughn left, they only took some health supplements that Olivia had carefully prepared. After a tearful goodbye, Samuel called to ask, "Have you and Michael discussed anything? It would be best to settle it with a mutual agreement. The reasons you listed in the lawsuit require evidence. Especially the last one, you need proof of his infidelity... Do you have any evidence?"
Olivia was startled and replied, "No!"
She had been too worried about Bianca's condition to gather any evidence. Michael's whereabouts were always kept secret, so she had no way to track him.
Samuel's tone grew serious, "In that case, the lawsuit might fail. The court will likely push for mediation and suggest you settle it with an agreement."
Olivia immediately regretted not gathering evidence sooner.
She had overestimated Michael's character, thinking they could part amicably without love, especially for Bianca's sake... But Michael was worse than she imagined!
Samuel asked, "Do you still want to proceed with the lawsuit?"
Olivia didn't hesitate, "Yes! No matter what, I want him to face the charges. As for the evidence, I'll find a way to get it!"
Michael and Sophia were always together. There had to be evidence somewhere. She was determined to find it!
