Chapter 44 What Are You?
"Whose daughter is that? I don't think I've seen her before."
"No clue, but wow, she's gorgeous. How did I miss her?"
"Wait, isn't she the housewife you guys were talking about?"
"What? That's Mrs. Johnson?"
The crowd's admiration quickly turned to shock.
Some couldn't help but glance back and forth between Olivia and Sophia.
In comparison, they realized Michael's wife was just as beautiful as Sophia. Maybe even more so!
So if it wasn't because she was unattractive, why was Michael seen with someone else?
People started to look at the situation with curiosity and amusement.
Sophia naturally noticed this and struggled to maintain her composure.
She glanced at Michael, hoping to find some reassurance in his demeanor.
But to her dismay, she saw Michael staring intently at Olivia, his eyes showing a hint of admiration.
A flash of jealousy and madness crossed Sophia's eyes.
'What's so special about her? Just because she dressed up a bit? Who knows, maybe she's trying to seduce someone? And how does this woman even get into this event?' Sophia thought.
Chase was also present tonight. He had seen Michael and Sophia together earlier and didn't plan to interrupt. But he was surprised to see Olivia here too.
Frowning, he immediately approached and asked, "How did she get an invitation to an event like this?"
Michael snapped out of his daze.
Sophia's eyes gleamed with malice, but she maintained a composed exterior and said, "I was surprised too. Tonight's invitations are extremely rare; even the Johnson Group only received three. When we arrived, Michael's invitation was missing. Could it be..."
She deliberately left the sentence unfinished, implying that Olivia had stolen Michael's invitation.
Otherwise, why would it go missing?
Michael didn't comment, but his gaze darkened with displeasure.
Why did Olivia dress like this and come here? Who was she trying to impress?
Anger surged within him, and he immediately walked over to Olivia.
Sophia hadn't expected this reaction and reluctantly let go of his arm, quickly following him.
Chase, unwilling to be left behind, joined them.
When they reached Olivia, Sophia spoke first, "Olivia, what a coincidence! I didn't expect to see you here!"
Olivia had already noticed them.
While initially surprised, she wasn't entirely shocked.
The elite circles in Emerald City were small; if Daniel was invited, the Johnson Group would naturally be present too.
She had planned to avoid them, but they approached her instead.
Feeling unlucky, she didn't want to engage with them.
Chase, however, was quick to accuse, "Olivia, who allowed you to come here? Do you even know what kind of event this is? Using a stolen invitation to attend the Miller family's party, you sure are bold!"
Olivia was baffled.
When had she stolen an invitation?
This guy was talking nonsense again.
Unfazed, Olivia retorted, "Stop talking nonsense."
Her demeanor tonight was different, and her beautiful face carried a hint of aggression.
Chase's expression turned cold, "You didn't steal it? Then what right do you have to be here? Don't tell me the Miller family invited you!"
Olivia looked at him calmly. "What if I said they did?"
"You?" Chase sneered. "You probably don't even know the Miller family's background. Olivia, people should know their place. If you can't support my brother's career, you should stay home and take care of the kids.
You know Sophia and my brother are business partners, attending events like this for work. Yet you came here to cause trouble!
Are you trying to embarrass my brother and tarnish Sophia's reputation? You're so malicious! How could the Johnson family have a daughter-in-law like you?"
Chase raised his voice intentionally, trying to clear Michael and Sophia of any suspicion of an affair.
Olivia had seen obsessive pursuers before, but this was a new level.
She had to admit, his words were somewhat effective.
People who had been quietly criticizing Sophia started to change their minds.
"So we misunderstood, Ms. Brown and Mr. Michael Johnson aren't involved like that?"
"Their strategic partnership was all over the news. Ms. Brown even joined the Johnson Group, so it's normal for them to attend events together."
"In that case, Mrs. Johnson is really out of line, coming here to cause trouble. Didn't Mr. Chase Johnson say she stole the invitation?"
"The Miller family won't tolerate such behavior."
"She should be escorted out. I thought she was pretty, but standing next to her is embarrassing now."
The crowd whispered among themselves, their initial admiration for Olivia turning into disdain.
These people respected power and ability. To them, Olivia was a powerless, paranoid housewife.
Sophia felt pleased with the situation but pretended to be understanding, saying, "Chase, don't be too harsh. Olivia is still your brother's wife. I understand her concern, but... Olivia, crashing the Miller family's event is wrong!
Ms. Miller is kind and might not mind too much, but your behavior is disrespectful to the Miller family. Leave now, before Ms. Miller arrives. It's better for Michael's reputation!"
She acted as if she were genuinely concerned for Olivia.
Olivia almost laughed at her performance.
What a hypocrite!
Her eyes darkened, and she snapped, "Who do you think you are, telling me to leave? Ms. Miller hasn't said anything, and you're acting like the host of this party! Do you have proof I stole the invitation? Just making things up?"
Sophia was stunned by Olivia's rebuttal.
Michael's expression darkened, displeased with Olivia's defiance.
He warned, "Olivia, enough! This isn't the place for your drama. Leave now!"
Olivia looked at him coldly.
She thought her decision to divorce was clear last night.
But Michael didn't seem to take it seriously!
Did he think she was just trying to get his attention?
Michael did think that way.
After demanding a divorce last night, she showed up here today.
Still playing mind games!
Chase lost patience, saying, "Michael, Sophia, there's no need to waste time. Let's have a security escort her out! If she stays, who knows what other trouble she'll cause. The Johnson family can't afford this embarrassment."
He called security, saying, "This woman didn't receive an invitation. She stole one. Escort her out and don't let her ruin the guests' mood!"
