Chapter 261: The Truth Revealed

Chapter 264 Mr. Hamilton Doesn't Want to Take Responsibility?

Benjamin sighed and told her about what Bianca had said that morning. "I could tell she's really looking forward to bringing Andrew back, but Andrew probably won't be able to return to Emerald City."

Olivia's heart sank, and the faint hope she'd been harboring quietly faded.

She kept her expression calm and asked in a steady tone, "Why do you say that? Did something happen?"

Benjamin said, "I can't really say much about the details, but it has to do with his family. There are some things he needs to handle."

As he said this, Benjamin seemed to think of something, and a clear look of disgust rose on his face.

Olivia noticed.

She had a general idea about Andrew's family situation.

If it were just about the Hamilton family, he wouldn't have that expression.

So it must be related to the Robinson family?

If Benjamin wasn't saying more, it must be something pretty serious.

Andrew didn't seem to get along well with the Robinson family either?

Olivia tactfully didn't ask further questions. She just went along with it and said, "I understand. If he can't make it back, I won't push it. I'll explain things to Bianca. She should be able to understand."

That's what she said, but for some reason, she felt a bit empty inside.

Seeing her answer so readily, Benjamin suddenly got anxious, scratching his head, not knowing what to say.

He really wanted to curse someone out.

What a mess this all was!

Andrew had finally taken an interest in someone, and just when the two of them were making a tiny bit of progress...

Those inhuman creatures from the Robinson family started causing trouble and stirring up problems, and now the two had to be separated.

At this rate, whatever little connection they'd built would be stretched thin.

Would there ever be another person Andrew would care about?

Seeing his expression constantly changing, Olivia asked with some concern, "Is it a really tricky situation for Mr. Hamilton?

He's such a capable person—what kind of thing could keep him stuck in Harmony City?

This doesn't seem normal, does it?"

Benjamin's tone was hesitant. "Well, as for how tricky it is, for Andrew it's probably not that bad, but they've touched his sore spot, so dealing with it might take some time."

He spoke vaguely, but Olivia still asked worriedly, "Will he be in danger?"

Hearing this, Benjamin immediately assured her, "You can definitely rest easy about that—he won't be!"

No matter how bold the Robinson family was, they wouldn't dare actually hurt Andrew.

Benjamin was certain of that much.

Seeing him say this, Olivia nodded and said, "That's good then."

After chatting for a while, Olivia didn't stay long and soon took Bianca home.

That evening, as expected, Evelyn came over to mooch dinner.

She'd probably heard about this too and seemed even more worried than Olivia herself.

Olivia teased her with a smile, "What's wrong? Who upset you? Those pretty eyebrows of yours are about to twist into knots."

"I'm not worried about myself—I'm worried about you! What are you going to do if Mr. Hamilton really doesn't come back?"

Olivia hadn't expected her to be worrying about this.

She smiled and said, "What do you mean?"

Evelyn said indignantly, "He was so good to you before, flirting with you in all those subtle ways, and now he just leaves like this? What's that about? Is he not taking responsibility?"

Her words made Olivia both amused and exasperated. She quickly stopped her. "Don't talk nonsense. How did he flirt with me?

Besides, being in different places isn't that serious to me."

Even couples deeply in love need their own personal space, right?

She and Mr. Hamilton were at most just friends who got along well.

"How is it not serious?" Evelyn's eyes widened. "Once you're apart, feelings fade. Don't you get it? So many people lose to long-distance relationships. You two aren't even together yet, but you should at least take this seriously!"

Evelyn really didn't approve of her attitude.

But Olivia just shook her head and said, "Michael and I, in those years after we got married, lived under the same roof. We were together day and night, right?

But that didn't make his feelings for me any deeper.

I think what you're saying makes some sense, but distance shouldn't condemn everyone.

There are still people in this world who can know and stay true to each other despite the distance!

Whether two people can make it to the end depends on the person.

Michael didn't like me, but he was willing to hold onto Sophia for so long. Setting aside our marriage, can you say he's not suitable?

He was perfectly suited for long-distance relationships, even international ones."

Even though they barely kept in touch during those years of marriage, his feelings for Sophia never faded.

He just didn't like her, that's all.

Hearing this, Evelyn's expression turned disdainful and disgusted. "How can you compare Mr. Hamilton to Michael? Michael doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath. He's just pure scum!"

Olivia smiled and didn't deny her complaint. She continued, "Alright then, let's come back to this. What do you think I'd be like if I fell for someone?"

Without hesitation, Evelyn said, "Do you even need to ask? You'd definitely be devoted, unwavering even if the sky fell!"

Just look at Olivia's last marriage.

She wouldn't give up until she hit a wall.

Olivia nodded and continued, "So do you think Mr. Hamilton seems like someone who's fickle or a player?"

"No way!" Evelyn thought about it and honestly shared her impression. "Not only that, but Mr. Hamilton gives me the feeling that he's the type who doesn't fall easily, but once he does, he'll be devoted and faithful, cherishing and protecting that person, not letting anyone hurt them even a little."

Hearing her exaggerated description, Olivia couldn't help but laugh. "See? You think so too. So do you really think, assuming he and I had something, this so-called distance would actually make a difference to us?

Besides, on my way home tonight, I figured it out.

My work is so busy. When things pile up at the research institute, sometimes I'm holed up in the lab for days.

Mr. Hamilton has his own things to do too. Every time he goes on a business trip, it's easily ten days to half a month.

Even if we lived in the same place, we'd often not be able to see each other anyway, right?"

With Olivia putting it that way, Evelyn felt she couldn't argue.

These two workaholics really could turn living in the same city into a long-distance relationship.

So had she been worrying for nothing?

"You have a point. If two people truly care for each other, time and distance aren't problems." It didn't take long for Evelyn to accept Olivia's reasoning.

Maybe this was just how these two got along.

It seemed like nothing much changed even when Andrew was in Emerald City.

If that was the case, what were they worrying about?
