Chapter 234 You Take Care of Her
Fortunately, Beatrix quickly introduced the two of them, and that's when Olivia understood what was going on.
She was naturally happy to be friends with them.
So now that she was done with work, she started typing a reply: [Sorry, I just got off work. Hi everyone, I'm Olivia.]
Lily: [My idol!]
Chloe: [Wow! You finally showed up!]
Lily: [Hi, I'm Lily!]
Chloe: [I'm Chloe!]
Olivia found their excitement amusing.
Just then, she received a private message from Beatrix and learned about their encounter with Sophia today.
Beatrix said coolly: [That trashy woman just knows how to talk behind people's backs. I can't stand it, so I'm not going to let her get away with it!]
Thinking about what happened, Olivia couldn't help but smile, but she felt really touched.
Back when she was with the Johnson family, she never met good people.
After leaving the Johnson family, she met good people everywhere.
She was really glad to have met a friend like Beatrix, and she told her: [Thanks for standing up for me. I'll treat the three of you to dinner sometime!]
Beatrix: [Sure!]
Beatrix readily agreed.
On Sophia's side, spending money didn't feel satisfying at all. The words Beatrix and Lily said stuck in her heart like thorns.
So after going back, she asked someone to look into Olivia's birthday party.
That evening, unsurprisingly, she received another call from Arthur.
He said unhappily, "Sophia, Michael gave you money? So when are you going to give me what you promised?"
Hearing him asking for money, Sophia replied irritably, "What do you think? I finally gained a bit of his trust and got some money. Of course I need to take it step by step. I can't just give it all to you at once, can I?
If Michael asks about it later, what am I supposed to say?"
Arthur probably thought this made some sense, so he backed down a bit and gave up for now.
However, if he couldn't get big money, he could still ask for some pocket money.
He said to Sophia, "Transfer me a million dollars first. Thanks to you, I'm out of work now, a bit tight on cash, can barely afford to eat."
Hearing this, Sophia was so angry she gritted her teeth. She naturally didn't want to give it.
But Arthur threatened over the phone, "I still have those photos, you know."
Sophia had no choice but to give it to him.
After transferring the money, she had to think about how to explain this million to Michael if he asked.
However, Michael came home very late that night, but the investigation she had ordered came back with results.
Olivia was indeed preparing a birthday party, and quite a grand one at that. Every invited guest was someone of high status, beyond reach.
They were people Sophia could never hope to match.
When Sophia found out, she was furious.
"Why does Olivia get to have this? Just a small birthday party, yet so many important people are going to celebrate with her!"
"Ugh, she just has a good teacher, that's all!"
"She used to be so low-key, so high and mighty, now it's all exposed. Absolutely shameless!"
She grabbed a cushion and threw it on the sofa, cursing to vent her anger.
Lyle happened to come by at this moment and heard a few words. He asked, "Ms. Brown, what's wrong? I think I heard you mention Olivia?"
Sophia was consumed by jealousy at the moment. Seeing Lyle, she exaggerated: "It's all because of that Rodolfo. He really knows how to take advantage of his position.
He's making such a big fuss throwing a birthday party for Olivia. Who knows what kind of bribes are involved? Those people all have unusual status.
Not like you, Dr. Warner, so honest and upright. You must look down on this kind of social climbing."
Lyle was noncommittal about this in his heart, but outwardly played the gentleman, saying, "Practicing medicine to save lives shouldn't be for fame and fortune, otherwise it goes against medical ethics and one's true purpose.
Rodolfo has been like this for quite some time. Sigh, I've always been worried that one day he'll be exposed and ruin the reputation of our Medica Vitae Sect."
Lyle put on a sanctimonious act, but his words carried hidden implications.
Sophia couldn't stand seeing Olivia do well. After hearing Lyle's words, she naturally started getting some ideas.
A birthday party, huh?
At such a grand occasion, if some scandal were to break out, wouldn't Olivia offend everyone?
After all, some of the guests that day would have very sensitive identities.
Thinking of this, Sophia's eyes suddenly lit up, her face full of schemes.
Lyle saw this and smiled to himself. This Sophia had some tricks and schemes, but in his view, they weren't very clever.
Someone like this was easy to use.
Besides, they had the Johnson Group backing them.
If he could use this to scheme against Rodolfo, that would be perfect!
In any case, Sophia was there to be used!
While these two were scheming away, Olivia remained busy as ever, barely having time to rest.
Daniel was very efficient, and the hiring process was moving quickly.
While doing research and development, Olivia also had to be busy screening personnel. She was exhausted every day, barely touching the ground.
Every night when she got home, it was already very late, and she didn't even have time to spend with Bianca.
Every time she came in, Bianca was already asleep.
In the morning, she would yawn continuously while taking the child to kindergarten, dozing off in the car while leaning against the little girl.
Seeing this, Bianca was very worried about Olivia, but she didn't know how to advise her.
After getting to school, she borrowed Benjamin's phone to call Andrew and complain, "Mommy only cares about work now. She's not eating properly or taking care of herself. Daddy, you need to do something about it!"
Andrew was a bit surprised to hear this.
He thought Olivia should have some sense of proportion, so he told Bianca, "Don't worry, Mommy isn't an irresponsible child."
But Bianca said, "That's not true! I heard Mr. McCoy say that when Mommy gets busy, she always skips meals. She used to do this before too."
Then, Bianca thought of something and suddenly suggested, "Daddy, let's go catch Mommy tonight, okay?"
Andrew was a bit hesitant, instinctively feeling that interfering with Olivia's life like this wasn't quite appropriate.
Bianca took the opportunity to act cute, her sweet childlike voice drawing out, "Daddy, I miss you too. We haven't seen each other for several days. Don't you miss us at all?"
That sweet childlike voice, with its soft and sweet tone.
Simply irresistible.
Andrew didn't hold out for long before giving in, "Alright, I miss you too. I'll come pick you up tonight."
Bianca was especially happy, "Okay, I'll wait for you, Daddy!"
She took the opportunity to say a few more sweet words, coaxing Andrew, and chatted for quite a while before hanging up.
Benjamin, who had been listening on the side, gave Bianca a crazy thumbs up.
Amazing, truly worthy of being the world's most adorable Bianca.
She could melt even a straight guy, let alone an iceberg like Andrew.
No wonder he doted on Bianca so much.
After making plans with Andrew, Bianca was excited all day.
At dusk, Andrew showed up at the kindergarten gate right on time to pick up Bianca.
Bianca ran over happily on her little short legs, "Daddy!"
Andrew smiled and picked her up.
Bianca hugged his neck and excitedly shouted in her sweet childlike voice, "Let's go catch Mommy!"
Andrew was amused by her words, but didn't spoil the mood, agreeing, "Alright, let's go now!"
He took Bianca to the car and told David to drive to the research institute.
When they arrived, Briar at the front desk recognized them and let them in as usual, taking them to the reception room and bringing them drinks and snacks. "These are all sweet, Bianca, you'll definitely like them!"
Bianca took them and thanked her politely, saying, "I really like them, thank you!"
Then she asked Briar, "Where's my mommy?"
Briar told her honestly, "Ms. Smith is still in the lab and hasn't come out yet. Wait a bit, okay?"
Andrew checked the time. It would soon be dinner time.
From the looks of it, Olivia probably wouldn't have time for dinner.
He told Briar, "I'll have someone deliver food later. Could you help bring it in?"
The research institute had strict rules, and ordinary people couldn't enter. Andrew and Bianca were exceptions.
"Sure." Briar naturally didn't refuse, but reminded him, "Even if the food is delivered, Ms. Smith might not come out to eat on time."
Andrew's heart stirred, and he immediately asked, "Does she often skip meals?"
Briar didn't think much of it and answered honestly, "When research gets busy, she forgets about time. It's not that often, but Ms. Smith is like that - very serious about whatever she does."
"I see." Andrew didn't ask more questions and told Briar, "You can go ahead with your work."
"Okay." Briar nodded and soon left.
Later, David brought dinner, and Briar helped bring it in.
Andrew checked the time. It was already past 7 PM, which wasn't early.
He first opened Bianca's portion and let her eat first.
Bianca ate slowly, and by the time she finished, it was almost 8 PM.
There was still no sign of Olivia coming out.
Andrew waited patiently.
In the blink of an eye, it was 8 o'clock, and still no sign of Olivia.
Andrew's brows furrowed slightly.
Bianca also became worried. She tugged on Andrew's hand and said, "Daddy, let's go find Mommy."
Her expression seemed to remind Andrew that Olivia was just this disobedient, and they should go manage her now.
Andrew didn't refuse. Holding Bianca's hand, he went to ask Briar, "Could you tell me where the lab is? We won't go in, we'll just stay outside."
Briar knew they wanted to find Olivia, so she showed them the way.
A few minutes later, the tall man and small child stood outside the lab, looking through the transparent glass at the person inside, bent over fiddling with various beakers and colorful liquids.
Bianca pressed against the glass, waving at Olivia in her sweet way.
Olivia was immersed in her work and didn't notice at first, until she turned around and unexpectedly met the eyes of the two outside.
Startled, she didn't hold the beaker in her hand steady. It fell on the table. The beaker didn't break, but the liquid inside scalded her.
Olivia couldn't care about anything else. She quickly put things away properly, then came out to find them, "Why are you here?"
Bianca said in her sweet childlike voice, "Mommy, we came to get you for dinner."
Olivia was about to respond when Andrew said to Briar, "Could you hold Bianca for a moment?"
Briar didn't understand why, but the man's tone was firm, so she did as told.
After handing the child over, Andrew grabbed Olivia's wrist and asked, "Where's the restroom?"
"Huh?" Olivia was confused for a moment, then blankly pointed in a direction.
Without saying anything, Andrew pulled her in that direction.
