Chapter 15 She Even Gave Up on Michael
After making up her mind, Olivia quickly went to the study to print out the divorce papers.
But to her surprise, she couldn't turn the doorknob when she tried to open the door.
What was going on?
Was the study locked?
Olivia was slightly taken aback.
This room was usually used by Michael, and apart from the housekeeper who cleaned it, no one else was allowed in.
However, when Olivia was working at the company, she would occasionally need to submit urgent documents or research data and would come here to use the printer.
Back then, the study was always open.
Olivia lowered her eyelashes, pondering, 'Does Michael lock the door on purpose, or does the housekeeper accidentally lock it while cleaning?'
Since she couldn't get in, she decided to go downstairs and ask the housekeeper, Finn.
"Finn, why is the study door locked?"
Finn seemed hesitant when he heard her question.
Olivia had a vague suspicion about the reason.
Finn cautiously replied, "Mr. Johnson's orders. He said the documents in the study are confidential, and it's best if non-company personnel don't access them."
Hearing the expected answer, Olivia couldn't help but clench her fingers.
Was Michael afraid she would interfere with company matters, or was he guarding against her stealing company secrets?
She had been away from the company for less than a day.
Olivia almost laughed out loud.
What did Michael think of her? A thief?
Even though she had already lost all hope in him, Olivia still felt a pang of coldness in her heart at that moment.
"I see." She replied calmly, not making things difficult for Finn, and turned to go upstairs to change her clothes.
Since she couldn't use the study, she would go out to print the documents instead.
Nothing could stop her determination to get a divorce now.
After changing her clothes, Olivia quickly left the house.
Finn watched her for a few seconds and then called Michael to inform him about the situation.
"Just as I thought..." Michael seemed to have anticipated this.
He firmly believed that Olivia wouldn't give up easily, which was why he made this decision.
And he was right!
"Don't worry about her; she'll calm down in a few days." Michael said indifferently before hanging up and continuing with his work.
Olivia was unaware of this.
After printing the divorce papers, she returned home and promptly signed them at the end.
Then, she placed the documents on Michael's bedside table, thinking he couldn't possibly miss them this time.
Having done all that, she went back to take care of Bianca.
However, to her surprise, Michael didn't come home that night.
Olivia was becoming more accustomed to Michael's nights away.
But over the next two days, Michael was still nowhere to be seen.
Olivia disliked this feeling of waiting for the unknown.
Since she had made her decision, she wanted to resolve it quickly.
Dragging it out would only drain her emotionally.
So, she decided to call Michael.
It took a while for Michael to answer, and his tone was as indifferent as ever. "What is it?"
Olivia tried to stay calm as she asked, "When are you coming back? I have something to discuss with you."
Before she could finish her sentence, a soft, feminine voice came from the other end, "Michael, the hotel said there's only one room left, so tonight we have to..."
Olivia hadn't even had time to react when Michael cut in, "I'm on a business trip. I have things to do. We'll talk later."
Then he quickly hung up.
Olivia gripped her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned pale.
Just now, if she hadn't heard wrong, that voice should have been Sophia's?
A business trip?
A hotel?
One room?
Olivia laughed.
Michael had taken Sophia on a business trip just a few days after she started working. His intention to protect Sophia was too obvious.
She never had such treatment.
In the past, she had to drink with clients until her stomach hurt, without even a word of comfort from him.
Discussing the divorce today was out of the question!
She didn't want to call again and make a fool of herself.
As for whether Michael and Sophia were sharing a room, she had no interest in finding out.
Was it necessary to worry about whether a man, whose heart belonged to someone else, had physically cheated?
Eventually, she would become immune to all the hurt!
The next morning, after breakfast, Olivia accompanied Bianca for her rehabilitation exercises as usual.
Her phone suddenly rang.
Olivia thought it might be Michael returning her call, but when she glanced at the caller ID, it was Amelia.
She wasn't keen on answering.
Amelia never called for anything good.
But Amelia was persistent, calling several times in a row.
Olivia frowned and finally picked up the call.
Amelia's displeased voice quickly came through, "Why are you only answering now?"
Olivia responded calmly, "I was busy. What do you need?"
Amelia sounded annoyed and spoke to Olivia rudely, "You're not at the company anymore. What could you be busy with?"
Then she changed her tone and commanded, "Come to the Johnson Mansion. I have something important to discuss with you!"
So much had happened recently, and Olivia was mentally exhausted. The thought of dealing with Amelia's harshness made her even more weary.
So she didn't hesitate to refuse, "I need to take care of Bianca. If you have something to say, you can say it over the phone."
"Olivia, you're becoming more and more disrespectful. Even I can't get you to come now?" Amelia was clearly angered by her refusal.
But remembering the purpose of her call, she held back her temper and said, "I'm calling you over to deal with Michael's grandma's matters! She was so good to you when she was alive. Now that she has passed away, do you intend to ignore it?"
Olivia's heart stirred.
It was about Emily?
She couldn't refuse that.
On her deathbed, Emily had still been worried about her and Bianca.
If Emily had left any last wishes or instructions, she couldn't ignore them.
After all, that warmth was something she would never experience again!
Olivia quickly relented, "Alright, I'll be there soon."
Amelia was finally satisfied and hung up.
It seemed mentioning Emily was the only way to get her to comply!
At 10 AM, Olivia arrived at the Johnson Mansion with Bianca.
As soon as she walked in, she saw several luxury gift boxes on the table in the hall.
They looked like gifts from someone.
The opened ones included branded bags, clothes, shoes, skincare products, and even men's ties, cufflinks, pins, and some supplements...
At that moment, Amelia was elegantly inspecting each item with a smile, talking to her husband, Hayden Johnson, "That child is so thoughtful. These gifts are exactly what we like!"
Hayden also had a smile on his face, "Indeed, very thoughtful."
Olivia saw that they hadn't noticed her arrival, so she reluctantly greeted them, "Dad, Mom."
As soon as they heard Olivia's voice, their smiles vanished, and their gazes turned as indifferent as Michael's.
Amelia was clearly displeased, "It took three calls to get you here. Impressive!"
Olivia ignored Amelia's sarcasm.
Amelia had always been like this, never showing her a kind face.
In the past, Olivia had tried to win Amelia's favor by always smiling.
But she was always met with coldness.
Now, she had no interest in trying anymore, so she got straight to the point, "You said you wanted to discuss grandma's matters. What is it?"
Amelia clearly had no intention of being friendly either. She first instructed a servant to take Bianca to eat.
Once they were alone, she spoke to Olivia, "We've been sorting through her belongings recently.
I remember that the family heirloom jade pendant was given to you by Emily.
We need you to return it. I assume you won't refuse?"
Olivia almost laughed at the request.
Sure enough, with Emily gone, the Johnson family couldn't wait to get rid of her.
That jade pendant was a family heirloom, given to the daughter-in-law.
Four years ago, when Olivia had just married Michael, Emily had personally handed it to her!
The jade had been passed down in the Johnson family for hundreds of years, priceless, and beneficial to one's health. Emily had always insisted she wear it.
No wonder Amelia insisted she come over.
In the past, Olivia might have hesitated to give it back.
After all, the jade pendant symbolized her status as Michael's wife in the Johnson family!
But now, she didn't even want Michael, so returning the jade pendant was no big deal.
It was just a pity that she would disappoint Emily's expectations.
