81- Thirst for revenge
Sebastian
In the days that followed, Josh made numerous attempts to get Anastasia out of jail, but the police were on our side and he failed miserably every time. It was late when unexpected news arrived bringing new problems.
\- We have a problem. - Walter shows up.
\- What is it now? - I asked, concentrating.
\- Anastasia has been killed. - He speaks.
Shit, terrible timing. Not that it bothers me that she's dead, it's one less obstacle, but she couldn't have died at a worse time. I foresee more problems to come.
\- How the hell did this happen? - I ask.
\- Our undercover inmate says that there was a fight and that Anastasia was stabbed in the middle of it, and the inmate who did it was visited the day before by someone. And she killed herself soon after. - explains.
\- It was set up. - I murmur thoughtfully.
\- Exactly. Someone did it on purpose, there must be some ulterior motive. - Walter adds to my thoughts.
The office door opens with a loud bang and Dante appears like a storm, he rushes up to me and grabs my collar tightly.
\- Did you kill my mother? - he asks with overflowing anger, his hands are shaking and his jaw is clenched.
He's about to break.
I feel sorry for him, even though I hate Anastasia, I didn't intend to kill her, just send her to a place where she could no longer get in my way or interfere in my life in any way.
\- No. I've just heard about it too. - I reply calmly.
\- I don't believe you. How can I believe you if you set her up and threw her in a dirty jail without caring? - he shouts and shakes me.
I hold his hands tightly and force him to let me go.
\- I didn't kill Anastasia. - I insist.
\- I'm going to kill you! - Dante comes at me like a bull, but his rage clouds any other thought and he doesn't even aim a weapon, he simply throws himself at me, throwing blows that I dodge. Tired of his unbridled rage, I hit him once in the face with a strong blow and then again, he fell and I kicked him hard, keeping him on the ground.
\- That's enough of that, Dante. I know you're angry and can probably only think that I was to blame, but I'm telling you the truth, I didn't kill Anastasia, I had no reason to. You know I don't usually lie. - I say.
Dante spits blood on the floor and gets up, wiping the blood off with the back of his hand.
\- If you didn't do it, who did? - he asks.
\- I don't know yet, but I'll find out soon enough. I suspected that something might happen to her, so I planted someone inside to keep an eye on her, and she should be here any minute. If you want to know the truth, stay and see with me, or believe what you want and leave. - warning.
\- Are you really telling the truth? - I ask.
\- I have no reason to lie and although I hated Anastasia, killing her wouldn't be the kind of punishment I'd give her. And you know, if I wanted to, she'd have been dead a long time ago and without the need for this kind of trick. - I explain. - But if you want, I can swear on my son and Rebekah. - I offer.
Dante snorts and rolls his eyes.
\- Don't be ridiculous, you think I'm going to believe this story that she's pregnant, it's obviously another lie. - Say it.
\- No, Rebecca really is pregnant, you're going to be a boy's uncle. - I say in all seriousness.
\- So it wasn't a lie? - he asks.
I shake my head and he finally nods as if he understands everything.
\- I'll wait for the proof you say you have, but if I suspect it's a lie, I'll take revenge, Sebastian, for my mother, I'll take revenge. - he warns seriously.
\- Don't worry about it, you can try to get revenge for whatever it is. - I approve of your decision.
A few minutes later, a woman arrives at the office, greets everyone and sits down where she's been told to.
\- So, Lina. Tell us what happened. - I order.
The woman then began to recount all the events leading up to Anastasia's death. Basically, two days before the murder, a new inmate entered the cell, she had a strange, anxious demeanor and sometimes seemed to mutter strange things to herself, she also received a visitor the day before the murder and returned to the cell in a very good mood, Anastasia was also visited on the same day and returned to the cell crying and muttering that she had been abandoned, it turned out that she was visited by her brother. On the day of the incident, a fight broke out seemingly out of nowhere and while the confusion was going on, the woman took advantage of it and struck Anastasia in the neck with a small knife, resulting in her death. The woman also did the same to herself and died before any information could be acquired.
\- Do you understand the situation here? - I ask Dante.
\- Are you saying that my uncle ordered this? - he asks, unable to believe it.
\- Apparently.
\- I don't believe it, you have no way of proving it. It doesn't make sense. - he mumbles shakily.
\- I can show you the face of the woman who committed the murder. - the woman offered.
I nodded and he handed me a USB stick, I inserted it into the computer and waited until everything was right. I clicked on the place where Lina had told me and watched the footage of the woman in question with Dante. I don't remember seeing her anywhere before, she must be someone from Josh's internal team.
Dante points at the screen as if he can't believe his eyes.
\- This woman, I've seen her once. She was talking to my uncle very suspiciously a few days ago, they were hiding among the bushes and I saw them accidentally. I never imagined that this could happen. - he says disgustedly.
It was easier to prove my innocence than I imagined and that opens up a lot of doors and possibilities. Now that Anastasia is dead, I don't have to worry about her and her influence on Dante and now that he knows it's none of my business, he'll make a decision and choose a side and it's already clear to me which side he'll be on.
Josh, you handed me my brother's support, it was easy.
Yes, I'm calculating enough to be pleased with the shrew's death and even more pleased to see Dante hating his uncle, that'll make things easier for me.
\- I have a proposition for you. - I'm starting to have a good idea.
\- What proposal? - Dante asks dejectedly.
\- I'll give you the revenge you so desperately want and the leadership of your maternal family if you cooperate with me. - I propose.
This is the best method for him now, it's almost irresistible if he wants to avenge his mother.
\- I accept. - he replies immediately.
It seems that the decision has already been made.
\- In that case, let's get these sons of bitches. - I call out.
\- Let's do it. - agrees.
