61- While I was sleeping

Sebastian

I woke up dazed and feeling like shit, like I had a hangover, but I know I didn't drink much. What the hell happened?

I sat up slowly and realized that Rebeca was sleeping peacefully next to me, it's dawn and I'm wondering what happened, I can't remember anything apart from finding Rebeca waiting for me in a sexy nightgown and wine. I remember that we started drinking and caressing each other, but I can't remember more than that, I started to get dizzy, strange, almost as if I was doped up.

What?

No, it's not possible.

Did she really do it? Why would she dope me? Why would she need me to black out completely?

What the hell is she up to now?

I checked my body for anything unusual, but nothing was different, I just felt nauseous and my head hurt, besides, why would she do something like this and even knowing the consequences, sleep so peacefully next to me?

It doesn't make any sense.

There's only one way to find out what really happened, by asking her.

I slowly moved my hand closer and touched her shoulder gently, Rebeca is usually a light sleeper, she wakes up with anything, but this time, she continued to sleep. I rocked her body gently and this time, she mumbled and opened her eyes slowly.

\- What's wrong? - she asked in a hoarse voice.

\- We need to talk. - I say.

\- Can't you wait? I'm very sleepy. - You cover your face with the sheet.

\- No, because I don't know what the hell happened and I don't want to suspect you for no reason, it makes me feel like a crazy son of a bitch and I don't like it. - I cross my arms.

Rebeca sighs slowly and sits up rubbing her eyes, then gives me a tired look, her short hair is everywhere and it would be funny if I wasn't so serious.

\- I'm listening. - He mumbles.

\- What happened last night? - I ask him bluntly.

\- Be specific. - he asks.

\- I'm talking about the fact that I don't remember anything after the wine and that I feel like shit right now, like I'm hungover or have been doped. - I point.

\- Oh, that's a long story. - answer.

\- I have time.

\- As you said yourself, I doped you. - he admits without appearing to show any guilt.

I felt as if I'd been punched in the stomach, an unpleasant sensation settled inside me and I felt cheated. The claws of distrust dug deeper and deeper into me.

\- What did you plan to do when you doped me? - I asked.

Of course, I expected her to lie, or to make some ridiculous excuse about her motives, I didn't expect her to say what she said.

\- I intended to kill you. - she said.

There's a bitter taste in my mouth, it feels like she's sticking a knife in me little by little, each question I ask is answered in a more painful way than the last and I don't know what to do with this wretched feeling.

\- You intended to kill me. - I echoed her words.

Rebeca shook her head in the affirmative.

\- Why? - I ask.

If she really intended to do it, she had the perfect opportunity, however, something happened and made her give up, I could be dead now, but I'm not. I want to know what made her give up.

\- I was forced to. - she replies calmly.

\- Who made you? - I ask, feeling my blood boil at the thought of someone forcing you to do something against your will.

\- That's another story, do you want to hear it? Are you going to believe me? - she asks.

\- Tell me. - I asked.

Rebeca sighed deeply and began to tell how she found out that Anastasia was meeting with her sister-in-law and intended to interfere, but when the two met, instead of persuading the woman, she was blackmailed and forced to kill me, otherwise her whole family would be killed, she accepted because she didn't know what to do and came up with the plan to kill me after I was asleep, so I wouldn't feel any pain.

I understand that she wanted to give me a quick and merciful death, but it's still damned uncomfortable to hear her recount all this as if it were nothing, as if she didn't care about killing me.

\- What's changed? - I ask wondering what made her give up, everything was ready, the plan was already in motion and to make her give up her family, it must have been something very serious.

\- Two things changed just as I was getting ready to pull the trigger. - say.

\- What is it? - I can't deny it, I feel miserable, inside and out, but I want to hear every word she has to say about it.

\- You ask too many questions, Sebastian. And you never answer my questions. - She crosses her arms in front of her chest and my gaze travels to her breasts for a moment, but I quickly pull myself together. This isn't the time for that.

\- I always answer your questions.

\- So answer me one thing. Why did you kill my brother? Wouldn't things be easier if he were alive? None of us would have to go through this if he were here. - point.

I understand what she means, what happened a few hours ago was the result of my actions, Anastasia knew and took advantage of it to manipulate a mentally fragile person. And to think that I was almost killed by the woman I love because of it.

\- I've talked about this before. - I say.

\- You're an idiot! You and Roderick. - you declare.

\- Why is that? - I ask without understanding why she seems so angry.

\- Because if it wasn't for him, you'd be dead now, I'd be dead and my whole family would be dead. - Roderick starts to cry and I'm completely speechless for a few seconds as I watch the tears run down her beautiful face.

She cries copiously and the headache slows me down to quickly assimilate her words, when I finally realize what she means, I understand why I'm still alive.

\- Was he here? - I ask to confirm.

\- Yes, he held the gun just as I was about to shoot. There it is. - He points to the bedside table, where a pistol rests.

Seeing the gun makes everything seem more real and I finally understand what happened and how difficult it must have been for her.

\- Is that what happened? - I ask.

\- It was terrible. You know how desperate and miserable I felt, I didn't know what to do, I didn't want to kill you, but I was afraid for my family, it was a dead end, my hand was shaking and I was crying as I took courage to go all the way, I felt like I was dying inside and the relief was enormous when Roderick appeared and took the gun from my hand. - she tells me in tears.

If she feels the way I do, then I can imagine a little of what she felt as she cocked the gun and prepared herself, just the thought gives me a strange, wrong feeling, as if I were shooting myself, killing a piece of myself.

I went to her and hugged her tightly as her body shook with sobs. I felt guilty for having been to blame for her pain, my decisions had made her suffer at more than one point, at first she was just a curiosity, a strong woman who intrigued me and who could have been at my side as an equal, but now everything has changed, including myself.

\- I'm sorry, I should have told you. But it was too dangerous and I didn't want to risk it. - I justify.

I feel like shit for seeing her crying like that and not being able to do anything about it.

\- Don't ever hide anything from me again. - she mumbles into my chest.

\- I won't. - I assure you. - Now stop crying, it makes me feel like I'm the worst person in the world, even though I'm not a good man, I want to be good to you. - I say.

This stops her crying and she looks at me with red eyes, as if she's searching for something.

\- Why did you marry me? - she asks.

Why did I marry her? That's a good question, at first it would be an easy answer, since I did it for practical reasons. I could say it's because we're good in bed, she's an interesting person or even because she's not afraid of me at all, even when I'm angry, she doesn't take a step back and never lets me get the better of her, even though she tests my limits, that's not the reason I married her, I think I already liked her at the time, I just hadn't realized the depth of my feelings yet, I believed it was passion at first sight, but I didn't imagine it was much more than that.

\- I married you because I liked you, and also because I knew it would be dangerous for your family, so I could keep an eye on you and ensure your safety. It was a surprise when I learned that you were Roderick's sister, and that's when I decided to use the marriage as an excuse to keep you close. - I explain.

Although I wanted to talk about how I love her madly and can't live without her, it's not the right time for that yet.

\- But I hated you. - she says.

\- Hated? - I ask.

She thinks about it for a moment and then sighs.

\- No. I just hated the idea of losing my freedom and my brother to the same person. - she admits.

\- That's what I thought. You had plenty of opportunities to kill me, but you didn't, despite everything that happened. I trusted you and I'm pleased to know that I wasn't wrong to judge you. - I smile.

\- I understand. Now, I hope you take good care of my family, our house exploded. - she reveals and I let go of her body for a moment, pulling her away to look at her face and make sure she's not joking.

She's very serious.

Holy shit.

\- Tell me everything in detail. - I ask.

\- It's all that old bitch's fault and I intend to take my revenge the same way. - She smiles a lopsided smile and I believe her completely.

Fuck, it seems a lot happened while I was asleep.
