Chapter 72 Sick?
Chapter 72 Sick?
Two days later, the news made me smile. My mates didn't use their fists, but they did something disastrous. A video of Mr Roderick assaulting a woman resurfaced. It was enough to send him to jail, which worked too well for me.
Because of what they did, I promised to work for them starting next week. Though they weren't happy about that, they would gobble anything I threw their way.
"Ma'am, you called for me?" Janet asked, stepping into the office.
"What are we having this morning?" I run my hand on my belly. "I'm kinda ravenous."
Which was odd. I had a hearty meal with my mates before I left for work. I wasn't supposed to feel hungry, but I was.
"Didn't you have any breakfast?" She gave my stomach a look. "I thought of your brothers.."
"I'm hungry and sleepy." I yawned, to let her know just how tired I was. At that moment, I was ravenous.
"Are you okay?" She asked, looking worried about me.
"Hmm. It's just that I have been feeling super weak these past few days. Hungry and sleepy whenever..." I bolted towards my restroom, retching all the contents in my stomach into the toilet. I rinsed my mouth, glaring at myself in the mirror.
"Ma'am? Are you okay?" Janet asked from the other side, not daring to step in.
"Hmm. I'm good." I wiped my lips, staring at the fatigued woman looking at me in the mirror.
I knew I wasn't okay. Deep down, I felt scared.
For three days now, I've been vomiting non-stop. Could this be based on all the food I'd eaten for days now?
My mates didn't know about it because I was keeping it a secret from them, not wanting to make them worried because of something as trivial as this.
I rinsed my mouth and sauntered back to my office after flushing the toilet.
Janet watched me as I sat in my armchair. "Are you okay, miss?" She asked once more.
"Hmm. I'm just hungry," I replied.
She sighed, running her hand through her perfectly combed hair, ruffling it. "This is getting out of hand, Ma'am. You have been eating too much these past two days. And now you just -"
"I vomited the ones I ate," I blurted out, eager to get her to leave to get something for me, so I would fill my stomach.
"You ejected them? Do you intend to eat all my food, only to vomit them?" She frowned at me. "Are you certain that you are okay?" She questioned once more, looking like she wasn't buying anything I
might say.
"It wasn't intentional. My belly isn't receptive to the food," I argued, pouting. "They made curry and rice this morning. I bet Mitch added an extra something to it. Which was why."
"Why-"
"I want to eat sausage. Can you please get those for me?"
"You want a sausage?" She asked, still frowning at me.
"And ice cream and pizza. I'm feeling ravenous." I yawned, leaning on the desk. "Close the door behind you. I think I will have a nap before you return."
"A nap?" She closed the distance between us and reached her hand towards me. "Your temperature is normal," she stated after feeling my forehead.
I scrunched my nose when I perceived an odour, asking as I covered my nose, leaning back on my chair, "What deodorant are you using?"
"My normal." Frowning, she leaned back to sniff her armpits. "This is the normal body spray I make use of. What's wrong with it?" She asked, waiting for a reply from me. "This is the one I'd always used for as long as I could remember. Is there anything amiss with it?"
"I don't like it." I scrunched my nose. "Just go and have a shower. I don't think I can endure such a smell. Just do something. Get a deodorant or change out of those clothes," I moaned.
"But-"
"Make sure you have a bath before you leave to get my food. The perfume isn't okay. You will probably chase all the suitors away with such an odour. You can use my restroom if you like. I have a spare gown in there."
I motioned towards my bathroom in case she didn't know where that was.
"But there is nothing wrong with it. You were the one who told me you like the perfume," she argued. "You said you liked it when you interviewed me. It's still the same. I have used it ever since that
day."
"I don't like it anymore." I waved her off, willing her to leave, so I could have a much-needed nap because I was barely keeping my eyes open as it was.
She sighed. "I will change out of these clothes and get what you asked for. I might waste some time because I will need -"
"Take as much time as you need. I'm not rushing." I placed my head on the desk, closing my eyes. "Take care of my work for today. I don't think I'm in the mood to meet anyone. I just want to eat and sleep all day. God, I think I deserve this."
"I will get right to it, Ma'am," she said before she left.
I listened until I heard the click of the door before I relaxed to sleep. Nothing felt right at the moment aside from my need to relax. It felt like something was controlling my desire and my entire being.
I ate four more times and vomited six times before I decided to have my bath. I was lucky enough to have a bathroom, and more lucky that Janet didn't take up my offer when I asked her to change. into my gown. Otherwise, I would have been stuck wearing the ones I wore to work.
I called her a few minutes ago and begged her to get a late lunch for me. Though she voiced her concerns about that, she didn't put up much of a fight, which worked so much for me. I just didn't have it in me to argue with anyone or try to get her to listen to me.
It didn't take her less than a few minutes to arrive in my office, panting like one who ran a mile to bring my lunch for me.
"You are back?" I curled my legs under me. I was recently watching a movie series.
"I got the meal you requested," she declared, placing the lunch box on the table before facing me. "I thought you said you were tired of curry. Wasn't that what you mentioned this morning?"
Ignoring get question, I paused the movie and got up from the couch. "Something smells nice. What did you get?" Sniffing the air, I went close to her, smiling.
I felt dizzy suddenly. I placed my hand on my forehead, trying to stop whatever was going on with me.
"What's wrong?" She asked in concern, turning to face me. "Are you okay?"
Suddenly, I felt my eyes roll to the back of my head. I seemed weightless. Everything became blurred before the darkness took over, and I felt myself sinking into the void.
