Chapter 68 Fan girls
A sound caused me to sit up. It was the first time I'd heard squeals from the women working for me. The office was usually quiet aside from lunch hours. Even then, they didn't make enough noise. I once wondered if I filled the office with disciplined nerds because none of them stepped out of line.
It wasn't far-fetched, since half of them graduated from college before 20. Miles said I employed kids, not knowing I took them in because of how good they sounded, and I was yet to regret that. They were as efficient as those who had been in the business for a long time.
Moreover, all those experienced employees started somewhere. It would be dope if they had it in their resumes that they learned the grids from me. I would be the popular boss, with hundreds of workers testifying in my favour.
Frowning, I got up from my chair and approached my door, eager for some gossip. I would highly appreciate anything that can keep me awake until 3.
I opened the door and stared out. The corridor was empty, and the sound seemed to come from the floor beneath. I went over to the rail and glanced out, my mouth open in an 'O' when I saw what was causing the ruckus.
My mates were down there, smiling at the young girls who wanted an autobiography. I smiled, watching them, especially Miles, as he basked in the attention. I always joked that I missed his calling. He would have been dope as an idol. Mike would have done better on a high jump team, while Mitch would either be a swimmer or a bodybuilder.
The girls screamed when Miles sighed on Noran's arm. I was supposed to be jealous about this, mind you. But I wasn't. Despite whatever they do down there, they would still come up to meet me because I was the one they came for.
Thinking of that, I frowned, wondering what they were doing here when they should be at work, getting everything done for the mid-year celebration.
They had only been to my office thrice since I opened it up, and that was because I called them over two out of three. The last one was coincidental. They happened to be meeting someone in the café next door and decided to visit me before leaving.
Watching them now, I tried to think of their reasons for coming over. Last I checked, they mentioned nothing related to coming over to the human city, at least not this week.
I smiled when Mike refused to sign on a girl's neck. The smile got more pronounced when he said his darling wouldn't be happy should she hear of that. It led to another round of awing and questions from the girls, who wanted to know who he was dating and if they were all in a relationship.
It made sense because I said nothing about our relationship. I was waiting until we got married to break the news to my girls, who would be heartbroken to hear that their favourites were dating their boss.
Most of them thought I was their sister, and I never disputed the fact because I was their stepsister. And not only that, but I wanted to keep the secret until I'd gotten to know them on a more personal
level.
My mates seemed to treat my female employees better than they did others. They hardly gave other women the time of the day, but I could see that they were working to keep my workers happy. It was as if they were doing fan service for me.
"It's a pity the same woman captivated us," Mitch said, looking up.
I was fast enough to dodge, my heart beating loudly in my chest as I wondered if he saw me. I placed my palm on my chest, gulping as I took a step back. I was scared to go near the railings because of what I might see there.
"What are you doing out here, ma'am?"
I almost jumped out of my skin when I heard the question. Turning, I gulped as I focused on Janet, who was looking at me with a concerned expression on her face.
Come to think of it, all the women in the office were down there, squealing aside from her. My way went to the file she had in his hands, as I wondered if she ever did anything aside from working. Had I not known better, I would have thought she owned this place and we, her workers.
"Oh." I smiled, nervously chuckling. "I heard sounds, so I came out to check and... Why are you not down there? Don't tell me you don't have a crush on them?" I raised a brow, eager for some gossip. She shrugged. "I have someone that I like. Your brothers don't interest me as much as my crush does."
"Oh, that's great!" I chuckled nervously, not knowing if I should be glad or not. This was my first time meeting someone who wasn't head over heels for my mates. I should be happy, but I couldn't help but try to know why she was acting so nonchalantly. "Do I know your crush? Is he a celebrity?" I questioned, leaning close.
She stepped back, gulping as her cheeks turned pink. "No, they are not. I have something to take care of, ma'am. Bye!"
Before I could blink, she was already halfway across the hall, looking like all the demons from hell were after her.
Oh?
I chuckled. My nervous worker seemed shy enough to tell me about her crush. I wonder if he was as good-looking as my mates. Perhaps I would ask her about it someday.
Turning, I went into my office to wait for my prodigal mates, who were still down there with their female fans. If only I got a cent for every time other women gawked at them. I would be rich.
I sat back in my chair, and placed my hand under my jaw, sighing. If only they weren't as handsome as they were.
