Chapter 67 A Good employer
SUMMER
Working from home most times is a godsend. I didn't know just how hectic the first months would be for me. I thought opening a business was the easiest thing in the entire world and wouldn't take much from me. But boy, was I crazy having such thoughts because that ain't easy at all, not when I have over 59 people working for me.
Mike said it was because I wanted to start big, which was why it became cumbersome for me. It took a month for me to get used to this, and I think I'd gotten the hang of it.
I'd gotten accustomed to everything and everyone. I used to get greeted each morning whenever I walked into the building and got requests from my workers. At first, it was overwhelming. But not anymore.
A knock on my door interrupted me. I looked up from my desktop, asking the person to step in.
"Good morning, ma'am," Janet, my secretary, greeted me when she stepped in, smiling as she nervously tucked a strand of her hair behind her left ear.
"Good morning," I smiled at her, watching as she approached my table and placed a file on it, stepping back.
Janet was the first worker I interviewed. I loved the way she replied to all my questions and how efficient she looked, which was why I employed her. And I'd never regretted that. She was the best secretary any boss would wish to have.
If only she wasn't a woman, I would have asked my mates to employ her. At least they pay their employees far more than I do mine. They paid the person with the lowest salary in their company twice the amount of my manager. I wasn't ripping off my workers, mind you. It's just that... Well, as werewolves, my mates had bastard money, and those who worked for them were the best.
"Ma'am, that's the report you asked for," she said, keeping her gaze on my table instead of on me.
I nodded at that, leaning forward to take the file from the table, nodding as I leafed through it.
"Thanks."
"It's no worries, ma'am," she rushed to say, smiling nervously as she tucked her hair behind her ear. I'd picked up a thing or two about her, like her nervous traits. It wasn't difficult to know that since she always did that whenever she stepped into my office. "Is there anything you want?" She asked, joining her hands together in her front.
"No, that will be all. I will... Can you please get a cup of coffee for me?" I asked with a smile, feeling guilty. I just said it would be all, yet I was sending her on an errand.
"I will get right to it!" She turned and hurried out of the office, sounding super energetic. A smile played on my lips as I watched the door. Had I been a man, I would have thought she had a crush on me with the way she kept acting around me, happy whenever I sent her on errands and nervous when in the same room with me.
Sighing, I leaned on my chair, picking the file up to leaf through it once more.
It didn't take up to five minutes before I got a knock, and she stepped in with a mug of coffee.
"You didn't ask me how I wanted it?" I lifted an eyebrow as she placed the mug of caffeine on the table and stepped back.
"I'm... I'm sorry about it." She gulped. "I thought you were in love... I will get another one. What do you want?" She made to pick up the cup, but I raised my hand, preventing her from doing that.
"It's alright."
I was just trying to tease her, without knowing she would take it seriously. I wasn't expecting that at all.
"Oh."
"You can return to your office now. I will call you if I need you, okay?" I smiled at her.
Nodding, she hurried out of the office, closing the door behind her as gently as she could, so the clicking sound wouldn't be too loud.
"What a naïve young lady." Smiling, I picked up my cup and took a sip, grinning. Janet never disappoints. She knew how I loved my coffee and always made it that way.
"Oh, my poor heart." Moaning, I placed my head on the desk, tired. My mates kept me until 3. Those bastards need to be put on leashes, or better yet, chained to the bed so they wouldn't try anything funny with me.
Yawning, I tried not to sleep, knowing I had a lot of work to do if I wished to be out of there by 3. I wanted to surprise my mates with dinner. I had to leave early so I would have enough time to cook in case the first try didn't turn out right. I was, after all, watching a YouTube video. Most of the first tries won't come out well until you try it for the second time.
Or you could say I was lazy, and a novice when it came to making food. I'd gotten used to being babied and taken care of by my mates. I couldn't even boast of something I could do well, aside from handling their work and being good in bed.
I don't even know if that one counts. I'd only been with them, and they claimed I was good. But what if I wasn't? And they were just trying to make me feel good by lying to me?
Argh!
I need to stop thinking about them and focus on my damned work. That was what I knew how best to do, after all.
If only I could get the work to do itself. It would be great.
