Chapter 54 A Surprise

Chapter 54 A Surprise
Before the others returned, Mitch had already bathed me and tidied up the room. He didn't want them to feel jealous that he got to be with me when they were out working.

Mike prepared dinner before he called out to us. Mitch carried me downstairs - despite my protests- and set me on my chair, taking his place next to me as Mike and Miles joined us. "How are you feeling?" Miles asked as he came over to my side of the table. He placed a kiss on my forehead, winking.

They were gradually returning to how they were, treating me like they had always done, which worked for me.

"Good," I replied with a smile, blushing when Mike pecked my left cheek.

"That's great," Mike commented.

"So, when can I start work?" I questioned them, frowning when they shared looks. "I hope you don't intend to keep me shut in this house forever?" I raised an eyebrow at them. From the way they were looking at me, it was obvious that was what they planned to do with me. I wouldn't put it past them to have me locked until only the goddess knew when.

"You will start work soon, don't worry," Mitch replied after a full minute of silence. He smiled when I raised a sceptical brow. "Come on. Are you doubting us?" "Why shouldn't I? You didn't give me many reasons not to." I folded my arms, giving them each a freezing stare. "When am I starting work?" I questioned once more. "Soon," came Mike's reply. He was as vague as Mitch was.

"How soon are you? A week? A month? A year? Give me a date, will you?"

"I made your favourite!" Mike clapped in Glee, trying to get me to drop the question. "You've got to taste the new chocolate biscuits I baked. Miles claimed it's delicious." "Don't try to change the matter," I said in a warning tone, showing them they wouldn't fool me with that.

Mitch sighed. "What if we say that we have a surprise for you?"

"A surprise?" My eyes widened at that. "What's it? When am I getting that?!" My eyes sparkled.

He smiled, looking towards his brothers, who had the same smiles on their faces.

"It's a secret. But we promise you this, darling; you will love it."

"Hmm." I pursed my lips. "You know how much I hate surprises. If you are not -"

Mitch placed a kiss on my cheeks. "We will show you what that is tomorrow. Stop being stubbornly impatient." He poked my forehead.

"Let's eat!" Mike yelled dramatically as he brought out plates for dinner, filling the air with the aroma of the food he made.

They almost had my stomach bursting because of the amount of food they kept dishing for me. Had I not yelled for them to stop, I doubt I would have lived long to tell the tale. Before I slept, I promised myself that I would find the doctor who prescribed whatever trash he did to them, and give him an earful, because what the freaking fuck??

I woke up the next morning, excited to know what the surprise was all about. You could say I didn't have a comfortable sleep because I was busy thinking about the surprise they spoke of and what it might be.

I sat up on the bed, checking the time on my phone. They returned it to me last night after confirming that I wouldn't try to work or do anything with it.

A knock came on my door almost at the same moment. It was as if the person on the other side knew when I woke up.

"Come in," I said, barely keeping my happiness in check.

"Good morning," Mitch greeted me as he stepped into the room, smiling.

"Good morning."

"Here." He placed a folded dress on the bed. "Have your bath and get dressed. We will be waiting for you downstairs," he added with a grin.

"What?" My gaze wandered to the dress on the bed before it returned to him. "Is that the surprise?" I frowned, wondering if a new set of clothes was the surprise I had had a restless night over.

He shook his head, a teasing smirk appearing on his lips. "The surprise comes later. Just have your bath and get dressed. We will wait for you downstairs."

Winking at me, he turned and made for the door, turning at the last minute to add, "You better be fast. I know you can't wait to see what the surprise is." Winking mischievously, he opened the door and excitedly closed it behind him.

The moment I heard a click from the door, I got down from the bed and rushed into the bathroom. I didn't bother with warm water. I had a cold bath, the fastest bath I'd given myself since I learned how to bathe without help.

I dried my hair, combing it until it became smooth and soft. Next, I went over to the bed to check on the clothes he left. It was a black knee-length gown with a red belt. It looked like something I would get for myself. I wore the gown, noting how it fit me. I paired the dress with a flat red sandal.

I checked my reflection in the mirror, blushing at how eager I looked. My eyes were wide in anticipation of what their surprise might be. I was like a kid, getting a present from Santa after hearing about

it.

With one last look in the mirror, I made for the door, only to return to the bed to take my phone with me. My heart hammered in my chest as I climbed down the stairs, my palms getting sweaty at the thought of what awaited me at the foot of the stairs. I gulped, running my hand through my hair, trying to hide my anxiousness. 1

"We are here!" They called out to me the moment I got to the end of the stairs. Turning towards the kitchen, I inhaled sharply before I started my walk towards them, preparing myself for their surprise.
