End of a cycle
Rebeca

I woke up feeling terrible. Everything hurt, head, body, heart, soul... where was my soulmate? My partner? I couldn't feel that. I called out to him. Noah was the only one who could make me feel a little better.
I tried to get up, but I was still in a daze. They must have given me some sedative. I got up slowly. I went to the bathroom to take a shower, got changed and when I opened the door, I almost got scared.
Mateo and Natsuke were waiting for me. She hugged me. We didn't need to say anything.
Mateo appeared with a tray of food.
I didn't want to eat anything, but the smell made me hungry.
We sat down in the room. And I started to nibble on something.
"Where's Noah?"
“He’s organizing your father’s farewell ceremony, with all the honors that Alpha Counselor Arton deserves. He asked me especially to keep you safe and Natsuke to be your companion until he arrives. What do you need, Rebeca? We’re so sorry, all of us,” Mat said sincerely.
“Everyone? Who else is here?” he asked anxiously.
Natsuke smiled sweetly. “The whole family is already on their way, Rose, Krig, Tod, James…”
“Actually, Nat and I were already coming by surprise to meet you. And Robert and Liam were already here to support you without you saying anything, since Noah had forbidden it…”
“And also all the counselors and your father’s Beta and Gamma…”, when Nat said this, I froze…
“Goddess! This is all too much… it’s too big a moment. I don’t know if I can pull myself together.” I had no more tears, I wanted to cry, but there was no more liquid in my body.
“You’ll have nine hours, dear. We’re all here for you.” Mateo said in such a fatherly way that he managed to shed a few more tears.
“And why isn’t Noah here?” I started to get nervous. Something was wrong… “Where did he go?”
He’s coming in an hour at most.
I started to get agitated. My wolf Hera was pacing back and forth in my head. She wanted revenge, I wanted to fill the void I was feeling.
Arton was the closest thing I had to a father. He might not be ideal, but at least I had something. This sudden loss, without a goodbye, without a last hug…
And, on top of that, by the same person who killed my mother, it was unbearable to live with it. I had to kill…
“I want to kill the vampire. I’m going to dedicate my life to that.” I noticed Natsuke’s eyes widen. “I don’t want to take care of the company anymore, or be Alpha of the Forest Wolf Pack, I’m going to become a wanderer, I’m going to…”
“Calm down, Rebeca. You’re in mourning, you’re confused. Today you should only allow yourself to say goodbye to your father,” Natsuke said sweetly, but that didn’t comfort me. “My wolf and I wanted blood.”
I think my Alpha aura lost control because Liam and Robert came running in with scared faces.
“Come, Rebeca, I know what you need.” Robert said and left me in the hallway, down the stairs to an attic. Where were we? When we left the hotel and went to this house? I didn’t understand anything, I must have fallen asleep or been knocked out by a strong sedative.
“Why did you bring me here? Where is Noah? How long has it been? Something’s wrong! What are you hiding from me? Tell me now! I demand to know the truth.” I was screaming, my whole body shaking. I was transforming. Robert had to emanate his Alpha aura and push me.
“Start talking or I’ll cut your throat!”
“If a fight will make you laugh, come on!”
I jumped and Hera, my wolf, came to the surface. Robert transformed and we fought in wolf form. I scratched him, he wasn't coming back to life. I didn't want to hurt myself, damn it! What was I doing? I transformed back.
“I'm sorry.” I turned my back to him. I stood there breathing deeply trying to find my balance. That's when I smelled the scent of wood, pine and a hint of dew.
I felt a hand touch my shoulder, a caress on my back. I calmed down… It wasn't Robert anymore, it was Noah.
He hugged me tightly and kissed my head. I turned and hugged him. I breathed on his neck. I tried to fool myself.
“Where were you?” I said through gritted teeth. “Calm down, I'll explain everything.”, he said sweetly, bringing me to sit on his lap, in an old armchair in the attic.
“Is your brother okay? Apologize to him.”
Noah took a deep breath and I looked into his deep eyes one last time. I wanted to kiss him, I had to say goodbye and tell him that I would no longer have a family. I turned around after the funeral and let him go meet someone else. He shouldn’t have to wait for me, nor was he obligated to go with me. I wanted him to be something I would never be again: happy.
Our story had to end for him to be free of me. One of us deserved to be happy.
“You’re going to be mad at me and I don’t care. I did what was best for both of us. Now, help me with that!”, he handed me his cell phone.
