65 – Lily’s Strange Behavior
65 – Lily’s Strange Behavior
Linda was already uncomfortable with people staring at her while she spoke on the phone, so activating the speaker was out of the question for her.
But since she could not say so directly, she found a kind excuse to give him. “You said you had a meeting.”
“I’m the CEO, so of course, they have to wait for me,” Oliver said in a slightly authoritative tone. Linda replied nervously.
“But I’m running late for my lecture.” This man was too powerful to mess with, and she wished her excuse worked, but it turns out it didn’t.
“Then you should be fast, or I won’t end this call, and if you do, then I will be at your class with you tomorrow,” Oliver said seriously, and he meant it.
For his woman, he did not mind rescheduling all his appointments to be with her.
Linda was at a loss. Oliver was so possessive, and she could not refuse him, knowing he would do as he said.
She activated the speaker button and spoke shyly. “It’s on speaker.”
“Great, is anyone there?” Oliver’s poised voice sounded around the hallway close to the entrances where everyone around took an interest.
The person on the other side of the line sounded very powerful; they could guess he was the one who transformed Linda’s life.
Gwen felt like she was going to get all the answers to her questions, taking a keen interest in the whole matter unfolding before her.
“I’m her best friend, Gwen, and who are you?” She asked in an excited tone. Oliver chuckled and spoke to all their hearing, knowing everyone around there was curious.
“My name is Oliver Winters, and I want everyone hearing the sound of my voice to know that Linda is my woman, we are engaged, and I love her so much.”
The popular guy who made an advancement around Linda a while ago was beaten with complicated expressions, and so were everyone around.
They wondered for how long Linda had known this powerful man for him to be all over her, but Gwen’s expression was priceless.
“Wow,” Gwen exclaimed. She was freaking out. “You are just amazing. I hope you are as good-looking as you sound.”
Linda smiled, certain that any woman would fall for Oliver, but he was only hers to begin with. There was a beep as Oliver spoke.
“I just sent her my picture. I don’t know if she will show it to you, but I’m hers alone, and you should all take good care of her. I promise to reward you if I come to visit.”
Linda reluctantly turned the phone to show Gwen the picture, but her colleagues around all drew closer to have a peep, their jaws dropping as their eyes landed on it.
“You are so hot,” Gwen managed to say, fanning her face with her fingers. Not even her boyfriend was that hot, but she was so happy for her best friend. Quickly, she responded to Oliver.
“Gosh, she’s in safe hands. I will take very good care of her.”
“Thanks, Gwen, I won’t take any more of your lecture time,” Oliver said, satisfied with what he had done.
He might not be there with Linda, but being a student before, he knew it wouldn’t take long before those who heard him speak would begin to send the message across.
It was not only that, but some of the smart works who loved the business news were beginning to put the pieces together.
“Oliver Winters. Isn’t he the brother-in-law of the legendary Nathan Legend of the Legend Incorporated?”
Linda was glad their lecture time had started, as no one had the time to question her anymore, but the weird looks given to her were an indication of how curious they were in knowing about the depth of her relationship with Oliver.
When the call ended, everyone began looking at Linda differently, even when they entered the lecture hall.
Thankfully, the lecturer entered after Linda and Gwen got seated, and Lily made it in time with her friends too.
Surprisingly, no one gave her attention or fawned over her like they used to. Most of them were trying to win over Linda to get that hot guy’s reward.
When the class was over, Gwen lambasted Linda with ceaseless questions. “Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked seriously in a hushed tone. Linda hushed back honestly.
“It was a blind date. There was no time.”
Gwen was so happy for her, and for the first time, Lily did not try to bully her sister or anything, rather seeming nice and even brought her lunch for her.
She already heard gossips about how hot Oliver was and what he told all those who cared to listen.
They were now on Linda’s side, so Lily had to play her cards well if she wanted to get back all the attention she had before.
“Gwen, Linda and I will be going home from now onwards,” Lily announced. Gwen was not liking it, and it was the same with Linda.
“Why so? Linda is my best friend, and she won’t want to be with you,” Gwen argued as she always did, as Linda was never able to stand up to anyone, especially her sister Lily.
“She’s my sister, and we live together,” Lily leveraged as she wrapped her arms protectively around Linda, who stiffened in her arms.
She never enjoyed this level of acceptance with her elder sister before, and though she greatly desired it before, things had changed, and she was no longer desirous of it.
Pulling away from her sister’s strange embrace, she spoke seriously. “Lily, nothing changes between Gwen and me.”
Gwen was overwhelmed with love, happy that Linda did not toss her away because her sister suddenly gave her attention.
“But I’m your sister. I have to watch out for you,” Lily said in a very soft tone, angry that her plans weren’t working as she wanted.
Linda could not understand why she was being so nice to her but felt good about it for the fact that they were not at loggerheads anymore.
“We can spend time together at home, so allow me to spend time with Gwen if you don’t mind,” she said politely, setting her priorities straight.
“Okay, if that is what you want,” Lily readily agreed. Linda and Gwen found her behavior to be strange, but none of them spoke about it.
Days passed, and Lily was nicer and nicer to Linda, not showing any signs of hate towards her sister like she did before.
Nevertheless, Linda could not trust Lily the same way she trusted Gwen and was very careful around her. Lily got so close to her and even slept in her room, claiming they never bonded as sisters before and should do so now.
However, on Thursday afternoon after lectures, two gentlemen met Linda at the school entrance with Lily and Gwen, giving Linda a message.
“Mr. Winters said he already informed your parents and has instructed us to bring you safely to him.”
“Wait, wait, what’s going on here?” Lily asked, acting as the protective and caring sister.
