Chapter 68: Dear Goddess

The chaos of the battle raged on around them, the sounds of gunfire and shouts of defiance echoing through the forest as the pack fought tooth and nail to defend their territory. But amidst the turmoil, a sense of calm descended upon Grace’s cabin as Marcus arrived, his presence a beacon of hope amidst the darkness.

Urgently, Marcus raced through the battleground, his heart pounding with dread of what was to come. His first priority was to get to Enora, and he knew that every second counted. As he burst through the door of Grace’s cabin, Marcus’ eyes immediately sought out Enora’s form, his heart clenching with fear at the sight of her pale and still figure. He wasted no time in springing into action, his hands moving swiftly and with purpose as he assessed her condition. Grace hovered nearby, her eyes filled with worry as she watched Marcus work. She had done everything in her power to keep Enora stable until his arrival, but she knew that Marcus’ expertise was needed now.

With a practiced hand, Marcus began his examination, his fingers probing gently as he searched for any sign of injury. But to his surprise, he found little wrong with Enora, save for a few minor scrapes and bruises. “This doesn’t make sense.”, Marcus muttered to himself, his brow furrowed in confusion as he studied Enora’s vitals. “She should be more seriously injured.”

“Maybe the Goddess is watching over us still.”, Grace whispered, her voice barely audible over the chaos outside. Marcus shook his head, his mom and her belief in a goddess that had failed them for generations. He was a man of science, of logic and reason. He couldn’t afford to entertain such notions, not when it was Enora’s life that hung in the balance. Sebastian would kill him if he did. “There has to be a medical explanation for this.”, he insisted, his voice firm and unwavering as he continued his examination.

But despite his best efforts, Marcus couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that gnawed at him. Something wasn’t adding up, and he couldn’t afford to ignore the warning signs. He redoubled his efforts, his mind racing as he searched for answers.

Outside of Grace’s cabin, the battle raged on. Sebastian and the pack members that took cover in the mansion fought valiantly against the onslaught of drones, their weapons blazing as they sought to bring down their mechanical foes. Slowly but surely, they began to gain the upper hand, their coordinated efforts paying off as they managed to shoot the drones from the sky one by one. With each victory, their confidence grew, their determination unwavering as they fought to protect their home and their loved ones. But even as they pushed back against the enemy forces, Sebastian couldn’t shake the sense of dread that gripped him. His thoughts were consumed by his mates. With each passing moment, his worry grew, his heart heavy with the fear of what might happen if he couldn’t get to them in time. But he pushed aside his doubts, his focus unwavering as he rallied his packmates to continue the fight.

Back inside the cabin, Marcus’ brow furrowed in frustration as he continued his examination of Enora. Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t find any medical explanation for her condition. It was as if she had been spared from harm by some unseen force, a notion that went against everything he believed in.

As he studied her more closely, Marcus began to notice something strange. Enora’s vital signs were stronger than they should have been given what she went through. Her pulse was steady, her breathing even. It was as if her body was fighting off the effects of the trauma with a strength and resilience that defied explanation.

With a sense of awe, Marcus realized that there was more to Enora’s condition than met the eye. It was as if she was being protected by some unseen force, a force that he couldn’t begin to comprehend. As the battle raged on outside, Marcus made a decision. He would continue to monitor Enora’s condition closely, but he would also put his faith in whatever unseen power was watching over her.

Adam and Lucas continued to fight alongside their team of guards, their determination unyielding even as the odds stacked against them. With each drone they brought down, with each enemy they fended off, they clung to the hope that they could turn the tide of the battle in their favor. But in their relief that they managed to gain the upper hand, they missed the subtle movements of the enemy closing in from the other side. It was only when they found themselves surrounded, trapped on all sides by their adversaries, that the full gravity of the situation sank in.

Adam’s heart sank as he realized the dire predicament they were in. He exchanged a glance with Lucas, their silent communication conveying the weight of their shared realization. They didn’t want to give up, to surrender to the enemy without a fight. But with their backs against the wall, there was little they could do now.

A tension hung heavy in the air, one of the men behind the lines of the enemy stepped forward, his figure cloaked in shadow as he revealed himself. Adam’s blood ran cold at the sight of him, his jaw clenching with barely contained fury as he met his gaze head-on.

Seth.

Seth smirked, his voice dripping with malice as he taunted Adam and Lucas. “Well, well, well, look who we have here.”, he sneered, his eyes glinting with wicked amusement. “The mighty Beta and Gamma, brought down low by mere humans.”

Adam’s fists clenched at his sides, his muscles coiled with tension as he fought to keep his anger in check. He knew that Seth was trying to goad him, to provoke a reaction that would give him the upper hand. But Adam refused to give him the satisfaction.

“What do you want, Seth?”, Adam growled, his voice low and dangerous as he squared his shoulders, readying himself for whatever came next.

Seth’s smirk widened, his eyes gleaming with twisted delight as he reveled in Adam’s anger. “Oh, nothing much.”, he said, his tone casual as he circled Adam and Lucas like a predator stalking its prey. “Just to see the look on Sebastian’s face when he watches his precious mates die before him.”

Adam’s blood ran cold at Seth’s words, his mind racing with fear for Sebastian’s safety. He couldn’t let Seth get to him, couldn’t afford to let his emotions cloud his judgement. With a steely resolve, Adam met Seth’s gaze head-on, his voice firm and unwavering as he spoke.

“Sebastian won’t fall for your tricks, Seth.”, Adam said, his tone laced with conviction. “He’s stronger than you’ll ever be.”

Seth’s laughter echoed through the forest, a chilling sound that sent shivers down Adam’s spine. “We’ll see about that, won’t we?”, Seth said, his voice dripping with malice as he raised his weapon, leveling it at Adam and Lucas with deadly intent. “Well, what are you waiting for? Move!”, Seth ordered as he pushed Adam with his weapon. Adam stumbled forward under Seth’s forceful push, his jaw clenched tight with determination. He exchanged a glance with Lucas, their eyes communicating a silent resolve to stand their ground against whatever threats they faced. They might be outnumbered and outgunned, but they would not surrender without a fight.

As Seth led them deeper into the heart of the forest, the tension in the air grew palpable. Every step felt like a march towards their doom, but Adam refused to let fear consume him. He knew they had to stay strong, for themselves and for their pack.

Seth’s taunts echoed through the trees, each word dripping with malice as he continued to mock and belittle them. But Adam tuned out the hateful words, focusing instead on the task at hand. They had to find a way out of this predicament, no matter the cost.

Suddenly, Seth halted, his gaze fixed on something in the distance. Adam followed his line of sight and felt his heart drop to his stomach. They had reached the center of the pack territory, where the mansion stood tall and imposing against the backdrop of the forest. As they approached the mansion, Adam’s mind raced with possibilities. They needed a plan, a way to turn the tables on their captors and regain the upper hand. But with Seth’s watchful gaze upon them, it seemed like an impossible task.

Then, Seth’s voice cut through the silence like a knife, his tone laced with cruel satisfaction. “Well, well, well, look what we have here.”, he sneered, his eyes gleaming with wicked amusement as he gestured towards the mansion. “Sebastian’s precious mates, delivered right to his doorstep.”
