Chapter 107 Horse Race
Chapter 107 Horse Race
“The plan failed, Blood matron.” The lost shepherd reported with a shake of his head.
For a while he received no reply, but he also didn’t dare raise his bowed head.
On the water screen before him, the image of the Blood matron could be seen, clear as the day. She had a slight frown on her face and a cold glint in her eyes.
“What happened?” She finally asked, her voice cold and dissatisfied.
“The woman is unable to carry out the task, blood matron. She hesitated at the last minute. I also found out that she had grown closer to him, that might be the reason why she could not carry it out.” The lost shepherd was afraid of the matron’s wrath, so he hurried to explain.
The Blood matron’s frown deepened and she wondered loudly, “She hesitated? Could it be that she has started developing feelings for him?”
“I’m afraid so, Blood matron. Her hatred has morphed into something else, we might not be able to make use of her anymore.”
The Blood matron shook her head, “The both of them are not allowed to get together, it will ruin a lot of things.” She paused for a second, then asked again. “What about the spy we planted in the mansion?”
“The spy is unable to do anything. The security in the mansion suddenly tightened, it was almost difficult for me to leave without getting seen and captured.” The lost shepherd replied.
“As expected, he has started to suspect that something is wrong. It will be difficult for us to make a move in the mansion from now on. For now, lay low but keep an eye on them. Report to me if anything goes wrong. In a while, we will carry out the final plan and nothing must go wrong then.”
“Noted, Blood matron.”
…
The next day, Hazel began her mission to have Damien stop ignoring her, but she was unable to see him that morning.
People kept saying different things.
Some said he was in a council meeting. Some said he was in his study after a meeting with his betas, while some said he’s not in the mansion at all.
Hazel was unable to find him in all these locations and Little Red couldn’t as well.
They both met at their agreed location and stared at each other.
“Did you find him?” Hazel asked the little cub and she shook her head, making Hazel frown.
Damien was definitely doing it intentionally, he doesn’t want her to find him.
So, he was hiding from her?
Hazel did not know whether to laugh or cry at the thought.
Just as she was contemplating her next move, a cheerful voice called out to her.
“Hazel!”
Hazel turned around and saw Alex approaching her with a smile plastered across his face.
“You are here, I’ve been searching for you.” He said, jogging towards her before coming to a stop in front of her.
Hazel raised a brow, “You’ve been searching for me? Did something happen?”
He chuckled, “Of course not, I merely want to invite you to a horse race. Are you interested? I promise that it will be fun.”
Hazel thought about it and nodded. She doesn’t have plans for the morning after all and Damien was nowhere to be seen, she could pass time with the horse race event.
“Fine.” She replied and his smile deepened.
“This way.”
Hazel was led to the familiar training field which was unusually lively that day. Several warriors had gathered near the riding area, the sound of horses stomping their hooves on the ground mixed with the warriors’ voices filled the entire place.
Hazel and Alex stood near the wooden fence, as she watched the activity with curiosity. Actually, it might sound embarrassing, but she had never really rode a horse before.
Her parents had the mindset that riding a horse was using external help. Werewolves were fast, so what was the use of riding a horse?
Although she had really wished she could ride a horse, she never really got the chance. That was why she accepted quickly when Alex suggested it.
“Is it a competition?” Hazel asked, but Alex shook his head.
“Not quite. It’s an activity we perform almost every full moon. Consider it a fun time meant for all the warriors in the mansion.” Alex replied.
“Your Alpha sure likes to have fun.” Hazel commented with a raise of her lips.
Damien wasn't as boring as she had expected.
Unexpectedly, Alex smiled and nodded, “Actually, that’s true. He might seem boring on the surface, but that man is willing to have fun when it’s necessary.”
A thought of another meaning to the term ‘fun’ appeared in Hazel's mind and she asked in feigned calmness, “Does that include visiting the brothel?”
Alex almost choked on his spit.
He stared at Hazel in shock, “W…what?”
His exaggerated reaction made Hazel frown slightly, “You and Damien, do you visit the brothel often?”
Alex smiled bitterly and awkwardly, “If I tell you no, will you believe me?”
Hasel stared at him meaningfully for a few seconds, then scoffed, “No.”
“We really don’t visit the brothel, it’s below us. We won’t stoop so low.” He quickly said, but Hazel did not reply.
She wasn’t really concerned about Alex visiting the brothel, she just wanted to know if Damien does the same.
Hazel turned back to the training fields and watched the warriors race across the fields with some competing unseriously. It was a fun sight, Hazel almost wished she could join them.
Then she noticed something, “Why are there a lot of audience?” She asked and Alex grinned.
“Of course, it is to watch me race.”
Hasel gave him a look, “You are racing too?”
“Noy just me, but Killian and the Alpha. It’s somewhat like a childhood ritual, something we’ve been doing for a long time.”
Hazel’s eyes shook slightly, “Damien? Is he here?”
“Of course. We are doing this together.”
