Chapter 106 His reaction
Chapter 106 His reaction
“Really?” Alex asked, his eyes bright with a mix of surprise and anticipation.
He wasn’t expecting things to go so well, that means Lady Luck was on his side this morning.
Hazel nodded, “Well, I had a good first impression of you and a good feeling towards you, so I have no reason not to give you the chance to prove yourself.”
Alex smiled, his hold tightening around Hazel's hand, “I promise you won’t regret iy.”
When Hazel noticed that Damien still had no reaction, her smile became slightly forced, but she still managed to keep her composure.
“Lady Hazel, please join us for breakfast.” Alex said, before turning to Damien. “The Alpha wouldn’t mind, right? Just take it that Miss Hazel is a friend of mine.”
Damien merely hummed, not even raising his head to glance at the two of them. Hazel pressed her lips together, her mood plummeting even further.
Alex led Hazel to sit beside him and quickly gestured for the maids to serve them. As the aroma of food permeated the hall, Hazel who hadn't eaten much since yesterday felt her stomach grumble slightly.
Thank goodness it wasn't loud.
But Alex, who was beside her, heard and gave her a meaningful smile. Embarrassed, Hazel forced a smile at him and he chuckled.
Then he began serving her dishes.
“Miss Hazel, how long have you been here? Have you had the braised crabs the kitchen makes? It is my favorite dish.” Alec said and Hazel finally noticed that there was a new dish on the table and her eyes lit up.
“No, this is my first time seeing it.” She answered honestly and he smiled. He went ahead to wear a pair of gloves that had been provided on the sides and peel the hard parts of the crab away.
Then he dropped the clean crab on Hazel's plate, “Here, have a taste.”
Hazel did not hesitate. Her first bite made her eyes brighten.
“It is delicious.”
Like that, Hazel, who had always been a foodie forgot about everything else and immersed herself in eating. Occasionally, Alex would serve her food personally and whenever she praises the dish, he would smile.
At that moment, Alex felt that he was liking Hazel even more, she was an interesting woman.
Killian felt that the both of them were an eyesore, so he ignored them and continued eating.
“Try this, it tastes good.”
“Hmm, it really does. You should try it too.”
“But I like the braised crab more.”
“That means we have the same taste in food.”
“Do you like pastries?”
“Honey candy is still the best.”
“Wow, I think so too.”
Killian felt like he was losing his mind, can’t he eat in peace?
“Can you both keep your voices down? I am eating here and I need silence.” He said with a frown and Alex darted him a look of disdain.
“Eat, eat. That’s all you know how to do.”
Killian couldn’t be bothered with him, but he suddenly wished Alex could go back to where he was coming from. It was only the first day and he was already this annoyed.
No one noticed Damien’s hand beneath the table. His fingers had slowly curled into a tight fist, his nails even dug into his flesh. But his face remained composed, no one noticed anything different.
Alex finally glanced at Damien and leaned closer to Hazel, “If the Alpha continues to look unfriendly, you are free to seek refuge in my home.”
Killian really choked this time, he coughed incessantly fot a few seconds before turning back to Alex.
“Man, are you that eager to die?”
Alex glanced at Damien again and that was when he noticed it - the way Damien clenched his fist under the table.
A glint flashed in Killian’s eyes and he smiled meaningfully.
So, the great Alpha could get jealous?
There was definitely going to be a good show later.
“I’m only extending a hand of assistance to a friend.” Alex retorted.
After some time, the plates on the massive, long tables finally emptied. Hazel dropped her spoon and leaned back slightly in her chair, satisfied.
“That was good.” She said honestly.
Alex smiled brightly, “I’m glad you loved it.”
He removed his stained gloves and the maids didn’t waste time in clearing the empty dishes on the table, their movements organized and calm.
“Well then Miss Hazel,” Alex began again. “Since the morning is still young, how about I show you around the pack? I could take you to interesting game houses and other places, I’m sure you will have a nice time. So, are you in?”
Actually, Hazel didn’t really feel like going anywhere. She hesitated and subconsciously, her gaze flicked towards Damien who was wiping his hands calmly.
So, she forced herself to say, “That sounds nice.”
Alex nodded, he pushed his chairs back and stood up. He was about to say something when Damien, who has been quiet since the beginning of the breakfast, spoke up.
“Alex.” He called out calmly and everyone in the hall paused.
Damien stood up from his seat and continued, “Come to my study, we need to discuss your last mission.”
Alex raised a brow and asked, “Now?”
Damien gave him a calm look, “Yes, now.”
His voice was firm, leaving no room for objections.
Alex sighed dramatically and turned back to Hazel, “Duty calls. Shall we do this some other time?”
Hazel nodded calmly, “No problem.”
On the other hand, Damien had already turned to leave. He didn’t glance at her or say a word to her.
Not even once.
It was like she didn't exist.
Alex and Killian hurried after Damien and they quickly left. Hazel remained in the same position and her smile slowly receded.
“How long can you ignore me, Damien? I’m not one to easily give up, you know.” She mumbled to herself, then her eyes flickered.
She lowered her head to glance at Little Red, “If he won’t talk to us, shall we force him to?”
Little Red nodded and Hazel smiled.
