Chapter 34 Best Friends or Hindances

Chapter 34 Best Friends or Hindances
Roman

I stayed right where I was for a moment.

Flat on my back. Naked. Rock hard. Staring up at the sky and caught somewhere between laughter and sheer, grinding frustration. “Well…” I exhaled, dragging a hand over my face. “That was unexpected…and escalated pretty quickly.”

A low huff drew my attention. Morte and Diablo stood a few feet away, both of them giving me identical accusing looks—like I had personally offended them by making their new favorite human bolt like a startled deer.

“Oh don’t start,” I muttered, pushing myself up onto my elbows. Their expressions didn’t change. If anything, they looked more judgmental. I snorted, dragging a hand through my hair as I got to my feet and started gathering my clothes. “Alright, fair. I might have contributed to the problem.”

You were the problem, Reaper added dryly. I couldn’t even argue. But regret? Not a damn chance.

Not when I could still feel her in my arms… the way she had melted into me, the way her scent had wrapped around me and driven every instinct I had straight into overdrive. My jaw tightened slightly. Yeah. No regret. Just… bad timing.

“She’s not ready,” I muttered under my breath.

We wait, Reaper agreed, though there was a low edge of impatience beneath it. But she is ours.

A slow, wolfish smile tugged at my mouth. “Run, little kitten,” I murmured, shaking my head as I headed inside. “We’ll be here when you’re done running.”

I hadn’t even bothered to redress when I was outside—just grabbed what I needed and went straight for the shower. One glance down had me scoffing. “Yeah… definitely cold.”

By the time I stepped out, the house was quiet. Too quiet. No Sienna. I exhaled slowly, toweling off and pulling on a pair of shorts before heading into the kitchen.

The evidence of our earlier disaster was mostly gone—but the absence of actual food was… concerning. I glanced at the counter, then the fridge. “…Please tell me Nathan will think to add some premade sides.” I muttered, opening it.

But knowing Nathan, I sighed, grabbing what Sienna had already taken out earlier and putting it back. “Looks like it’s rolls and meat,” I said to myself.

A soft knock interrupted me. I stilled. And then—Her scent hit me. Honeysuckle. Vanilla. And something deeper now—richer, heavier—like a warm current wrapping around my senses and pulling tight.

My head snapped toward the door. I opened it. Sienna stood there, arms full of sealed containers. And just like that, the air shifted again. “Sienna…” I said, my voice dropping slightly as I breathed her in. It hit me like a tidal wave.

She peeked up at me from beneath her lashes, cheeks flushed a soft pink, clearly shy now where she hadn’t been earlier. “I—Roman… salads…” she stammered, thrusting the containers toward me like they were a shield.

I couldn’t help it—I laughed, taking them from her quickly before she dropped them.
“Come in, Sienna.”

I set everything on the counter and turned back—She was just inside the door, hands fidgeting, shoulders slightly hunched, like she didn’t quite know what to do with herself.
“I am so sorry,” she said softly. I stilled “I just rushed you, and… and…” Her voice trailed off, her face turning a deeper red as she avoided my gaze.

Her heartbeat picked up. Fast. Uneven. Mate is upset. Do something, Reaper pushed, restless. I didn’t hesitate. I closed the distance and pulled her into my arms. She tensed for half a second—Then melted.

I ignored what her scent was doing to me this time. Ignored the way my body reacted and focused on what she needed instead. “Ssh… little one,” I murmured, holding her close. “It’s alright.”

Her breathing hitched. “We’re mates,” I continued softly, lifting her chin gently so she had to look at me. “This… what you’re feeling? It’s natural. It’s part of us. It’s wired into who we are.”

Her blue eyes searched mine—uncertain, vulnerable. “I feel it too,” I assured her, my thumb brushing her cheek as my other hand moved in slow, soothing circles on her back.

She watched me for a moment longer… then slowly rested her head against my chest. “I’m scared, Roman,” she whispered.

My chest tightened. I pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head. “Don’t be,” I said quietly. “Me and Reaper—” I paused, then huffed a small laugh. “—Wolfie… we’ve got you.” Her lips twitched faintly against my skin.

“You’re ours,” I added more seriously. “And we will never hurt you. You’re safe with us.”
Her breathing began to even out. Slow. Steady.

Reaper settled instantly. Mate is where she belongs. I held her a little closer. Yeah. He wasn’t wrong.

The sound of a car pulling up snapped us both back to reality. We pulled apart just as the front door burst open—And chaos followed. A whirlwind of energy barreled straight inside and nearly took Sienna off her feet. “Sienna!” Mei shrieked, wrapping her in a bone-crushing hug. “I missed you!”

I stepped back just in time to avoid getting taken out myself. Sienna blinked in surprise but quickly returned the hug, laughing softly despite herself.

And then—Something caught my attention. Mei’s scent. I frowned slightly. Wildflowers… bright, sharp—

And underneath it—Sex. And—

I turned slowly. Right as Nathan walked in. Bags in hand. Shirt slightly creased. Hair a little too disheveled. That grin on his face entirely too satisfied.

I narrowed my eyes. Sniffed the air again to be sure. “No…no he wouldn’t…” I muttered.

He caught it. Of course he did. His smirk widened. Tell me you didn’t, I mind-linked, voice flat. He didn’t even try to hide it. Set the bags down. Licked his bottom lip in clear satisfaction.

Then he glanced over at Mei—specifically her backside—with zero shame before looking back at me. “I can’t lie to my Alpha,” he said, entirely too pleased with himself. “So yes… I absolutely did.”

I dragged a hand down my face.

Behind us, Mei was still talking a mile a minute while Sienna tried to keep up, clearly flustered but smiling.

Reaper chimed in dryly. Just kill him. He is more trouble than he is worth. And his little girlfriend she might be next…pretty sure she tried to suffocate mate.

I exhaled heavily. “Goddess help me,” I muttered under my breath. Because this—
This was going to be a very long afternoon.
