Chapter 29 Pack Betrayal
Chapter 29 Pack Betrayal
The betrayal came at dawn. They were still tangled together in the safehouse bed, Selene nestled between Enzo and Damien, their bodies slick with sweat and the remnants of their shared claiming. The triple bond hummed with a fragile, exhausted peace, each heartbeat echoing the intensity of their previous night. For a few precious hours, the war had felt distant, a fading echo outside the walls that had become their refuge.
Then the alarms screamed.
Explosions rocked the outer walls, sending debris raining from the ceiling. Gunfire erupted, punctuated by howls that shattered the serene early morning silence, snapping Selene back to the harsh reality of their world. Panic surged as she recognized those howls. Silverfang. Her father's elite unit had found them.
Enzo was on his feet instantly, grabbing his gun with a practiced ease that betrayed his military background. "They found us," he said, his voice steady but edged with urgency.
Selene's blood ran cold, dread pooling in her stomach. The sound of howls was a harbinger of doom, the very sound that had haunted her childhood dreams, promising betrayal from those she once called family.
Damien was already moving, shadows coiling around him like armor, dark tendrils that seemed to pulse with a life of their own. "This isn't a raid. This is extermination," he warned, his voice low and grave.
They barely had time to dress before the first breach.
The reinforced door exploded inward, the wood splintering into lethal shards. Silverfang wolves poured through, shifting between human and wolf forms, their eyes glowing with a malevolent hunger. At their head walked Selene's father, the Alpha, towering and imposing, silver hair streaked with age and power framing a face carved from granite.
His gaze locked onto Selene immediately, a predator zeroing in on its prey.
"Daughter," he growled, voice cold as winter steel, cutting through the chaos. "You have disgraced us. Spreading your legs for mafia filth and bloodsuckers. The prophecy demands purity. You were meant to be our weapon, not their whore."
Selene stepped forward, her heart shattering under the weight of his words. "Father… you sent me to die. You knew the bond might form. You sacrificed me," she cried, desperation lacing her voice.
The Alpha's expression remained unyielding, devoid of any softness. "Sacrifices are necessary. But you failed. You bonded with the enemy instead of killing him. Now you are tainted."
A primal rage surged within Enzo as he moved in front of her, gun raised, his stance protective. "She's not going anywhere with you," he declared, his voice a low growl.
The Alpha smiled, but it was a cruel twist of his lips, devoid of any warmth. "Then we take her in pieces," he replied, a cruel promise dripping from his words.
The battle erupted.
Wolves and armed men clashed in the narrow corridors, a cacophony of chaos. Gunfire and snarls filled the air, blending into a symphony of violence. Enzo fought like a demon, dropping two attackers with precise shots before tackling another to the ground, the scent of gunpowder mingling with the metallic tang of blood. Damien moved like liquid shadow, striking with terrifying efficiency, tearing throats and draining blood, each kill a testament to his dark power.
Selene fought beside them, claws bared, tears streaming down her face, each drop mingling with the blood of her foes. Every wolf she killed carried the scent of her own pack—her family, her blood. The weight of betrayal fueled her fury, but it also twisted her heart with grief.
Then her father came for her directly.
He shifted mid-leap, a massive, silver-streaked wolf crashing into her with bone-jarring force. They tumbled across the floor in a snarling heap, claws raking her side, teeth snapping inches from her throat. The familiar scent of him—woodsmoke and pine—was now tainted with betrayal.
"You were supposed to be our salvation!" The Alpha roared through the bond only pack members could hear, his words a searing brand against her sanity. "Instead, you became their whore!"
Selene fought back with everything she had, but he was stronger, older, and more experienced. The years of training and the bond forged between them as father and daughter were now her greatest liability.
Enzo roared, a primal sound that cut through the din of battle, and tackled the Alpha off her, their massive forms colliding in a blur of violence. Damien appeared beside Selene, his cool hands pressing against her bleeding wounds, a stark contrast to the chaos unfolding around them.
"You don't have to do this," Damien whispered, his voice urgent yet soothing. "He chose to betray you."
Tears burned in Selene's eyes, blurring her vision. "He's my father," she said, her voice cracking, torn between loyalty and the painful truth.
The Alpha broke free from Enzo's grasp, lunging at her again, his intent clear as the wolf snarled in fury. But before he could reach her, Kael's voice echoed from the entrance, cutting through the madness.
"Enough!"
Kael stepped into the chaos, flanked by his own warriors, his silver eyes blazing with fury as he looked at their father. "You would kill your own daughter?" Kael snarled, the words heavy with a mixture of anger and defiance. "For what? Pride? Power? The prophecy is real. She is the key. And you would rather see her dead than share her power."
The Alpha bared his teeth, his expression a mask of hatred. "She is tainted. She must be purified."
Kael moved faster than anyone expected, slamming into their father, pinning the older Alpha to the ground with a snarl. "Then purify me too. Because I will not let you kill her."
The betrayal within the pack fractured everything.
Wolves turned on wolves, Silverfang against Silverfang. The safehouse became a slaughterhouse, blood and howls creating a horrific symphony of chaos and anguish.
Enzo fought his way back to Selene, pulling her behind him as he fired shot after shot, each bullet finding its mark in the chaos. Damien guarded her other side, shadows whipping out to protect her from the onslaught, the dark magic crackling with energy.
In the middle of the carnage, Selene broke.
She dropped to her knees, screaming as the emotional pain overwhelmed the physical. Her own father had come to kill her. The pack she had bled for had turned on her completely, a betrayal deeper than any wound.
Enzo dropped beside her, pulling her into his arms while still firing with his free hand. "I've got you," he whispered fiercely, his grip like a vice. "I've got you, Selene. You're not alone anymore."
Damien knelt on her other side, his cool hand on her back, a steadying presence amidst the storm. "We are your pack now," he promised, his voice a solemn vow.
The words broke something inside her, shattering the chains of despair that had bound her.
She rose with them, bloodied and trembling, but no longer broken.
Together, the three of them pushed back the attackers. Enzo's bullets sang, Damien's shadows danced like living weapons, and Selene's claws tore through flesh, carving a path through the chaos.
When the last Silverfang wolf fled, the safehouse lay in eerie silence, a tomb of bodies and betrayal.
Selene stood in the middle of the carnage, staring at her father's unconscious form where Kael had left him, her heart a tempest of emotions.
Kael approached slowly, his eyes filled with pain and determination. "He won't stop. Not until you're dead or he is."
Selene looked at her half-brother, the rival Alpha, who had just chosen her over their father, the Fang crown.
"Then we end this," she said, her voice steady despite the tears that still streamed down her face. "All of it."
Enzo pulled her close, kissing her forehead with a fierce promise. Damien stood on her other side, a silent, deadly assurance.
The pack had betrayed her.
But she had found a new one.
One forged in blood, shadow, and fire.
And it would burn the old world to ash if it had to.
